Made a bolognaise pasta sauce type thing with 1 kg of minced beef steak.
Onions, peppers and mushrooms added.
Have come home from work and DH and DS 18 have polished the bloody lot off leaving me with a measly ladle full of sauce
( pasta was cooked separately for clarification)
They are most of that too

I’d also a nice single piece of salmon tonight op, cooked ready just about as they walk in the door, which you then sit down and eat, on your own. That is incredibly entitled and selfish and I’d want them both to regret it so much that it never happened again.

Goodness me, they are grown ups, I’m sure they can either make their own food or order a takeaway, it’s not the 1950s.

seethingmess · 10/08/2024 11:19

I'm laughing at a suggestion that it's acceptable for them to have eaten your dinner as they do 'manual labour' jobs but not if they were 'office workers'. Why do some women put men who do manual work on a pedestal?

Eating someone else's share is despicable no matter what job you do.

@Codlingmoths

whats that gonna do exactly? Do you think they’re gonna be that devastated about a bit of salmon they’ll change their greedy ways.

p.s you seem to be assuming it’s OP that always does the cooking - why?

graceinspace999 · 10/08/2024 11:30

Why not stop cooking for them? If they’re big enough to eat your share they’re big enough to cook their own - it’s not the 1950s and it’s not your job.

Make yourself something nice, go out or get a takeout.

Think of yourself for a change since no one else is.

Mince is the new magic chicken I see

I was thinking the same 😂

BiggieLittle · 10/08/2024 11:37

Ok I have a similar problem (dh is nearly 7 foot tall and slim, and can eat numerous portions, plus a growing teenage boy with hollow legs, and a skinny 7 year old that can easily out eat me)

I now still batch cook bolognese but use 500g lean steak mince, tons of veg, red lentils (to make up for less mince) and then I’ll also sometimes add a whole pack of cooking bacon (usually only £1) or sometimes some chorizo (usually have half in the fridge needing to be used up)

That way it makes big portions, doesn’t use as much mince and I can let them fill their boots (if there is any left over for another meal then that’s a bonus!)

Obviously the main issue is that your DH and DS were selfish and didn’t save you any!

Women of Mumsnet!

Why are you all calculating protein and portions?
Are men doing this in forums?

No! They’re busy wolfing all the lovely food you cooked and they couldn’t give a flying f..k
about all the mental and physical labour you put in.

Stop doing all the cooking and look after yourselves!

Exactly! All this hand-wringing about how hungry men might be and how we can fill them up. FFS.

Everything shes said implies she does most of it. She does also say don’t worry they make their own lunches.

i don’t think one bit of salmon will ‘devastate’ them no, but quite possibly they will both find it truly shocking that she’s cooked for one, herself, and they have to work it out. I’m sure they can cook something and order takeaway too, but they and their wallets will notice the difference between loving mum and wife cooking and having to do it yourself. If I were the op, I’d be on a cooking for others holiday until I felt others had cooked for me sufficiently.

@Ladymeade this is what the OP said

To be honest what they left for me was enough for me
It's more I was hoping it would feed 3 people tomorrow too!

Didn't see that.... Was commenting purely on the original post (didn't see any update)

I think it’s being compared to mumsnet chicken as there are people posting saying they get 18-24 portions out 1kg of mince,

That always puts me in mind of Laurie Lee's "As I Walked out one Midsummer Morning," where he praises the thrift of poor Andalusian women, who could make a meal for 12 out of a single rabbit.

usernamealreadytaken · 12/08/2024 08:42

Fleurdalys · 08/08/2024 18:02

It's actually really thrown together
I work full time and like to do two days worth of meals at a time
Just sautéed peppers, onion, mushrooms, chilli and a hefty gallon or two of decent pasta

Sounds lovely (and rather like most things I cook - thrown together!) but doesn't sound much like bolognese to go with pasta, more like chilli to go with rice...

Barney60 · 12/08/2024 18:28

Personally id order a take away for myself and leave what they left you out of your home made dish for them to share tomorrow
