Made a bolognaise pasta sauce type thing with 1 kg of minced beef steak.
Onions, peppers and mushrooms added.
Have come home from work and DH and DS 18 have polished the bloody lot off leaving me with a measly ladle full of sauce
( pasta was cooked separately for clarification)
They are most of that too
Twats

Jesus. Is he the Tiger Who Came to Tea? Does he drink all the water in the tap as well?

Seriously, that’s terrible.

😂

seriesoffortunateevents · 10/08/2024 07:11

Stunned at these folks making 18-24 portions out of 1kg of mince. 🤪

1 kg of meat between two healthy males? Gluttony? I would have been delighted because they would have shown appreciation and I would have been taught a lesson not to be mean and tight when cooking and make a proper amount the next time. I hope it explains it. I despise people mean with food, I despise 'and save the rest for sandwiches for tomorrow'. We are a first world country, mince is not caviar or lobster. Neither is pasta. You don't have to be rich to be generous with food, but to expect 1 kg to last in a household with two men, well, words fail me.

Words are indeed failing you. On every thread you’re haunting at the moment.

Leanmeansmitingmachine · 10/08/2024 07:30

Thesecretingredientiscrime · 09/08/2024 23:23

Alrighty then. How does that work? It's either nine or it's a bonkers claim of mince for 27 meals.
Three meals tonight = 3.
3 meals tomorrow = 3.
And three meals frozen = 3.

Why are you struggling with that poster’s maths?! It’s clear what they said. 😂

Checkandcheckagain · 10/08/2024 07:33

I have not read the replies but just wanted to say this is an accolade to your wonderful cooking. In future if you do it again put yours and the batch for another day aside. in the freezer if possible. The men in my house can't find anything in there!😅

8 people 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

my two teens’ll eat 750 on their own, one’s whip thin one’s “gym buff”

only in mumsnet imaginary land 🙄

Literally every spag recipe is 1lb mince for four. 1Kg makes enough to half fill a 6 litre saucepan once you’ve put the rest of the ingredients in (unless yours is just mince and tomato sauce). I don’t know many people who’d eat a litre of bolognaise each, and we eat a lot!

Why are you taking such offense at how much others eat. ? I’m sure you’re a lovely weight, stick to your macros and measure everything, never ever over indulge, hence why yoh feel the need to go on line and chastise people for over eating.

theres a thread about an Indian takeaway, started yesterday. Why not pop over there and have a go at them too?

Redlettuce · 10/08/2024 00:42

Yes but lentils have way less protein than meat so you need to factor that in if you're feeding teens especially if they do sports.

But in the real world, people are not agonising about how much protein is in 100g of mince; they’re just making a decent portion of a standard meal and assuming that the male members of the family will behave like normal human beings around it rather than like a python trying to swallow a whole cow.

I certainly don’t think OP needs to be messing around calculating the exact grams of protein needed by her greedy menfolk - and neither do most of the women who’ve reported on this thread; their husbands and sons are absolutely making sure they’re getting enough protein and then some!

Princessfluffy · 10/08/2024 08:05

wow, food is really triggering for some folks. Taking such offence at what others eat. Must be fun at meal times round theirs.

Oldraver · 10/08/2024 08:06

My brother did this once. I too cooked a kg of mince with the usual added bits to portion up

Told B there was a portion in the microwave just heat it up, and as usual never listens properly and I smelt the whole pan being reheated, came downstairs to a massive dent in the amount and he was eating a massive mound proclaiming "oh I like meat" . I was fucking furious as I was trying to save money making a few dinners. He had form for this shit so I never offered again

He used to look forlornly into any cooking pans stating he was hungry

I think it’s you who’s triggered 🤷‍♀️I was just using a good old bit of hyperbole to illustrate my point. Not sure why you imagine I’m ‘triggered’? You are the one policing everyone apparently. I’d describe my tone as ‘light-hearted exasperation’ whereas yours is more ‘po-faced’.

I’m not offended, just bemused! And if you could see how overweight I am you’d find the notion that I’m a competitive undereater hilarious too! (But I still couldn’t eat a litre of spag bol in one sitting)

Don’t see any offence taken in Anon’s post. They’ve simply pointed out how much Bol sauce you get from 1kg of mince, backed up by the objective measure of what recipes say. And they’re right.

Why on earth do you feel the need to bring their weight into it?

As for chastising people for how much they eat, the thread is literally OP chastising her own nearest and dearest for eating too much. Get a grip.

CurlewKate · 10/08/2024 08:22

How much they ate isn't an issue. If you're hungry, eat.

Not leaving any for you is unforgivable.

Clma · 10/08/2024 08:33

Nap1983 · 08/08/2024 17:54

Its both greedy and ver inconsiderate of them, id be raging!
I am however astounded how far some posters can make 500g of mince stretch…

Same! I think 500g mince and veg would be four adult portions. Those claiming they'd get more out of it must be eating like mice.

And yes, they're greedy pigs. I'd have thought eight portions from that, perhaps five for hungry men.

lol, calm cown, yes the op asked, but the absolute relish people are taking at abusing these men, and the offence at what they eat is ludicrous. Especially when there is so many threads urging people to over eat.

edit to add, and the point on weight is unless you’re a healthy weight, then if you’re on line slagging off someone for over eating and calling them a greedy pig, when you yourself do it. Then it’s hypocritical.

Bigbobalady · 10/08/2024 09:26

😂Well, I’m a healthy weight so luckily I pass your test. However, I do, on occasion pig out. The difference is that I don’t do it at someone else’s expense- i.e. eat all/most of what they’ve cooked with no regard for other people’s needs.

The issue is not how much any individual is eating; the issue is behaviour around shared resources. I had assumed that was obvious.

tribalmango · 10/08/2024 09:52

AFmammaG · 08/08/2024 17:23

It’s not how much they ate that makes them greedy, it’s not leaving any for you that does.

Agree. I'm happy for people to eat their fill but if a meal is meant to feed n people then it's greedy and selfish for others to not leave any.

Noitsnotright · 10/08/2024 10:17

I think my boys could probably do this if I let them. However, I make bolognese with veg and 500g mince and it feeds 5 of us with at least one portion left over. That’s 2 large portions and 3 med/small. Maybe the posters that are surprised, don’t use as much veg and prefer meat heavy bolognese ? I don’t see it as equivalent to Mumsnet chicken

TrtseHkpr · 10/08/2024 10:20

Fleurdalys · 08/08/2024 17:41

To be honest what they left for me was enough for me
It's more I was hoping it would feed 3 people tomorrow too!

Anyway, they make cheese, ham salad wraps every morning at 6 am to take to work
I've frozen every bloody wrap in the house
Good luck with that at 6am

Well done, excellent revenge, but I'd still refuse to cook for them for the next month

I think it’s being compared to mumsnet chicken as there are people posting saying they get 18-24 portions out 1kg of mince,

clearly in those instances it’s very little mince and a lot of veg and pasta.

i do wonder if a lot of this is about cost.

With pasta

Those saying it’s not the quantity they ate but their selfishness at not leaving a decent amount for OP- I think it’s both!

Urgh I mean to eat so much… you must be sooooo bloated after 🤢 grim
