I probably am being unreasonable however I'm on here primarily for female perspectives.

Not noticed it to be any different to what it's always been!

I think 'mumsnet' isn't really the right name anymore as you have men and women with and without children etc

invisiblecat · 07/08/2024 23:03

If you are asking for recipes, have ingrowing toenails, need advice about estate agents, your cat has gone into labour in your airing cupboard, you have just been made redundant, your relative has died, your dog has eaten chocolate, you need to know a good hotel near the airport in Madrid or you baby just won't sleep, why on Earth would it matter?

thursdaymurderclub · 07/08/2024 23:05

i dont think it matters what sex or gendar the members are.. opinions and advice are the same be if from a male or a female is it not?

Obviously there are some things a man can't give advise on but i've not noticed any of them try explain period paid and the like so i think youre safe

Sux2buthen · 07/08/2024 23:06

It's fine, it's for anyone and everyone

User364837 · 07/08/2024 23:06

It doesn’t bother me and I can think of some regular really insightful and helpful male posters who I hope aren’t offended by this thread

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 07/08/2024 23:06

How do you know who is a man and who isn't? Most posters don't announce they're a man.

Grapesichord · 07/08/2024 23:09

Mumsnet HQ makes it clear that the site is for all parents and they have strict rules about posts which are sexist and try to 'chase away' men.
Why not look up the Mumsnet settings page with info on talk guidelines. It will help make the aims of this site clear.

One of the founders was a man..

There have been a few posters who announce they are men. They should probably be banned from the internet MN. [ETA not because they’re men, but because they’re invariably irritating]

Otherwise I don’t know who is or who isn’t male.

Oh yes, I've seen a bit of mansplaining on here😂

JulianFawcettMP · 07/08/2024 23:29

Am I a man? Are you a man? How can we tell?

One of the founders was a man..

Yet they called it Mumsnet......

It's irrelevant if a man founded it.

However I do accept that it's a small minority that agree (based on my "thanks").

ForGreyKoala · 07/08/2024 23:52

I have no idea how many men are on MN, and I don't care.

AssassinsEyebrow · 07/08/2024 23:53

I'm not joining no riot if thats what you're planning

BingoBangow · 07/08/2024 23:55

I always assume I’m replying to a woman or reading something from a woman’s perspective, mainly because I can’t imagine the men I know IRL would have any interest on chatting and discussing on a site that is mostly used by women.

Disneydatknee88 · 07/08/2024 23:57

I've noticed it lately too and tbh what is being posted by men lately is self serving garbage. The replies aren't exactly supportive and I don't support what they are saying either. It's all sex and relationship stuff. This is predominantly a mums forum (hence the name) mums are not going to side with you telling us you think you married the wrong person because she won't have sex with you 3000 times a week..jog on.

SouthLondonMum22 · 07/08/2024 23:58

You are getting primarily female perspectives.

They did call it Mumsnet.

I'm not sure why tbh.
As I recall, it was just the catchiest name that they came up with. The original idea was to share information about holidays and coping with kids whilst away etc.

Polyp0 · 08/08/2024 00:03

I agree

Because that’s what all women talk about all the time.

DickEmery · 08/08/2024 00:05

They are tedious. They've got the whole rest of the goddamn internet fully manned up just there for them but still they have to come here. Some of them attempt to go undercover (eg "I am female" 😁😁) but you can always spot them. I don't know what they think they're going to achieve but they're obviously v annoyed at the thought of groups of women gathering and communicating with each other without any men around to correct them.

xsquared · 08/08/2024 00:08

There's plenty of childfree posters on here too.

Despite the site being "by parents for parents", you don't need to be one to contribute to most threads.

Perhaps Mumsnet should undergo a rebranding similar to Twitter/x.

Any suggestions?

ElleintheWoods · 08/08/2024 00:22

What's wrong with being inclusive and just accepting everyone who wants to contribute?

Frankly there is no other British discussion forum with this level of activity and many popular threads have nothing to do with being a woman/mum. Eg the parking ones, the current riots ones, etc.
