I have read the thread thankyou for your input. 😁

Maybe work on your comprehension as you're missing the point or just looking to be outraged. You're welcome 🐕

PC7102 · 08/08/2024 08:19

its adorable. We have an outdoor pool in Cornwall which does this before they shut for winter which we go to every year

parkrun500club · 08/08/2024 09:13

Adorable? Not really.

But if it's the last session of the year before they empty the pool, deep clean it and then refill it the following year I can't see the issue. Nobody has to go in with them if they don't like it, and they don't have to go in the pool afterwards.

LilBowWow · 08/08/2024 10:04

Adorable!

To think having dogs in Saltdean lido is utterly disgusting?
sunglassesonthetable · 08/08/2024 11:18

You know, LOTS of Lidos do this.

Putting · 08/08/2024 11:25

I think this is a good idea. Most of the season dogs are (understandably) not allowed, and then there are specific sessions where they are before a deep clean.

Seems like a way to cater for both dog people and non-dog people.

pictoosh · 08/08/2024 11:54

Just back from two days camping. I had estimated the thread would be into the 20+ pages by now so I am disappointed by a mediocre 15 pages of outrage over nothing.

We're talking DOGS, we're talking HYGIENE. We're talking HAVE YOU ANY IDEA. We're talking LEARN TO READ.

<slow hand clap>

.. also .. swallowing some water during swimming in almost inevitable, even when we don’t realise it.

No one is swimming at the dog sessions. Look at the video.. it is owners just stood there watching their canine pals have a blast. There would be no room to swim.

Rottweilermummy · 08/08/2024 20:38

faffadoodledo · 08/08/2024 07:02

@Rottweilermummy but in this case the moulting isn't a problem because as its already been said upthread, the pool will be drained.
As for chlorine, modern pools are far less harsh than they used to be so I really don't think that is a problem.

Thankyou, sorry hadn't read all the previous comments, if they're draining and cleaning that's better obviously. I guess its a nice thing for people to be able to take their dogs, but I have no desire to swim with mine lol however much i love her, she does love swimming though

I am a huge animal lover and previously worked with them, but this is not nice.

My thoughts exactly. I’m a huge animal lover and when I opened the thread I thought it was going to be about dogs being allowed into the lido to wait on the side whilst their owner swims, which I’d have no problem with, but allowing them to actually get in the pool is too much.

I’ve only encountered this type of thing once before. It was a water park in the States that allowed dogs into the pool at the end of the season. Someone filmed one of them taking a dump in the pool. 🤢

sunglassesonthetable · 08/08/2024 23:24

....same @Rhaenys It's a special event at the end of the season.

CriticalThinker · 08/08/2024 23:49

You can swim; they have differently priced tickets for either watching your dogs or going in with them. I'm in two minds about this-when they started a few years ago, it was the last weekend of the season, before they closed it for the winter. I'm not sure about expanding it over several weekends.

Kids will wee in the pool more than a dog will 🤷🏻‍♀️

Roll out the dog owners with "kids are worse than dogs" or some other cr@p.

2024riot · 14/09/2024 15:26

Just popped back to update, that thanks to this I booked it and the dog had a fabulous time

TheNormalRules · 14/09/2024 15:48

Dear God! Is there no escape from them? Is nowhere sacred? Stinking wet smelly dog. I feel sick... 🤢🤢🤮

Do you often want to go and swim outdoors, at the end of the season, at a venue that specifically welcomes dogs ONLY on the last few days before they shut down and clean the whole system out?

I suspect you also like to book dog friendly holiday cottages and then moan about it smelling of dogs, or sit in the dog friendly area of the pub and moan that dogs are looking at you.

2024riot · 14/09/2024 15:54

It was so good I booked again !

MinnieMountain · 14/09/2024 16:34

Peterborough lido has added 2 days of dog swims after it shuts this year. I don’t have a problem with that, especially as it helps with the running costs. I won’t be in again until April (sob).

Rummly · 14/09/2024 16:39

If it’s the last thing they do before cleaning and disinfecting before shutdown then fine.

Otherwise, dogs in swimming pools is obviously wrong, repulsive and, I would imagine, illegal.

Let us know if you get any illness, or if you don't. And if you do what the response of the venue management is. Even if I agreed with dog swims there is no way I would give the people who run that venue one penny.

A pity as Saltdean is a lovely place.

2024riot · 14/09/2024 17:09

@LlynTegid what's wrong with the people who run the place?
I didn't go in I watched from the side

MinnieMountain · 14/09/2024 17:12

Why not, since it will already be closed to normal swimmers by then @LlynTegid ?

JohnTheRevelator · 14/09/2024 17:32

I love dogs but even I wouldn't be happy with this.
