I'm pretty sick of dogs being absolutely everywhere.

Boomer55 · 06/08/2024 08:12

Yuck. I wouldn’t want to use it. 😖

They only do it after end of the season for human swimmers and they drain and refill the pool afterwards.

Ooohhhh, well that makes more sense. 😁

CormorantStrikesBack · 06/08/2024 08:04

Kids will wee in the pool more than a dog will 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have they rolled in fox poo in the day or two prior, though, and not been bathed since? Do they have a foot long string of drool hanging from their chops? I've got a dog and I love her. I'd get in water with her, except she hates swimming. But a pool full of many dogs? No.

Those saying 'you don't realise how gross humans are' need to bathe a dog in a white bath. Humans are gross, but dogs are worse, and if you're not convinced by that, just the amount of hair is enough to be off putting. Imagine gagging on mixed dog hair whilst swimming. Eugh.

Mrsjayy · 06/08/2024 08:13

Looking at it it's 4 weekends at the end of September October so you don't have to go it's not like its every day during "summer" and I imagine the pool attendants will be re chlorinating and testing the water.

K0OLA1D · 06/08/2024 08:13

We'd love this!

LoremIpsumCici · 06/08/2024 08:14

Well, I am never going to any lido that allows dogs in.
Disgusting beyond belief.
Their Dogtember also says you can swim with your dog, and they recommend long sleeves so your arms don’t get scratched.
How has health & safety ever approved this?

Breakfastofmilk · 06/08/2024 08:14

completeworks · 06/08/2024 08:11

I'm pretty sick of dogs being absolutely everywhere.

Then I would advise going swimming during one of the many human-only sessions between May and September and avoiding the 4 weekends of the year when dogs are allowed in.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 06/08/2024 08:15

I think its a brilliant idea and its the end of the season so will be shutting down straight after. Human swimming finishes before these start.

completeworks · 06/08/2024 08:15

And I suppose I should avoid clothes shops, cafes, restaurants, children's play areas and everywhere else too?

It's closed to humans for dogtember. From reading the website it's obvious it's just like a nice one off month, they'll clean the pool and re open to humans. I couldn't get her up about it. I think it's nice.

Breakfastofmilk · 06/08/2024 08:17

Entirely up to you but not really relevant to this thread.

Sahara123 · 06/08/2024 08:17

The quiet session is 100 people and 50 dogs good grief.

Labtastic · 06/08/2024 08:18

I love this idea but, having swum a lot in the sea with my dog, I don't fancy the idea of 50 dogs' worth of claws coming swimming at me - I seem always to get shredded by doggy paddling paws coming straight at me by just my own dog?!

I just had a look and yes it closes mid September so it will be cleaned for re opening in May.

BouncerFish · 06/08/2024 08:19

“They let dogs into the lido with people on weekends 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢”

Bit of selective reporting there.

They let dogs in out of season, in the last weeks of the year, to raise funds to help keep it open. Then clean the lido.

Ponkpinkpink15 · 06/08/2024 08:20

It's fine.

its no worse than people.

Misthios · 06/08/2024 08:20

VinnieVanLowe · 06/08/2024 07:55

Disgusting

Yup. But not surprising in a society where we are expected to accept people's "fur babies" everywhere from cafes to department stores.

MidnightPatrol · 06/08/2024 08:21

HazelLion · 06/08/2024 07:53

Meh, it's chlorinated isn't it? You must not realise how disgusting humans are. Dogs are unlikely to go to the toilet in a pool, but we can't say the same for people.

I’m generally pro dog but I wouldn’t want to share a swimming pool with them.

Humans do at least tend to wash…!

LoremIpsumCici · 06/08/2024 08:22

Mixing dogs and humans together while sharing pool water is a recipe for disaster

  • mortality rate of 30% for humans- Capnocytophaga canimorsus - normal in dog saliva.
  • parasites like toxocara canis- do you want worms literally wriggling their way through your flesh? To your eyes? Causing permanent blindness? And if pregnant losing your baby?
Catza · 06/08/2024 08:22

I couldn’t get worked up about this. It’s a simple choice between going and not going. But can I just say well done to the staff for writing up the advert. It’s really cute and engaging.

SunmerSazz · 06/08/2024 08:22

They do it for the last weekend (or maybe 2) at our local Lido.

I know someone on the committee and they make more money on it than most of the summer. Helps keep it open and prices down for humans for their part of the season.

completeworks · 06/08/2024 08:15

It's not all about you. Businesses allow dogs in because they make more money. Go where you like, avoid where you don't like, no one is going to care.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/08/2024 08:23

Shade17 · 06/08/2024 08:06

You’re swimming in water which has literally cleaned the arsehole of every single person that’s used it, a few dogs aren’t going to make much difference.

Oh Jesus…🤮
