Michael Jackson

Why has Michael Jackson not been cancelled?

I don’t understand why a musical has been made out of his music, and why his music is played at school discos and is still everywhere.

After I watched the documentary where the men described how he raped them, I won’t listen to his music at all, in fact, I feel a sense of disgust when it is played publicly.

I don’t understand why we seem to have cancelled everyone else except him. Is it because he died before he was officially found guilty?

Unless new evidence has come to light to change the original verdict it wouldn’t. And so far everything is conjecture.

Not sure what level of evidence you expect a victim of sexual abuse, particularly one who was a 10 year old child, to produce. In any case, others - legal others - seem to disagree:

I really hope this is reinvestigated @creamofroses those boys well me now deserve justice for what happened to them!

Because he's innocent.

Agreed !

It is surprising how many posters on MN of all places seem to be perfectly comfortable with a grown man sleeping in a bed with random children - but not just children, boys. No sleepovers with girls that I have ever heard of. Boys. Not just any boys, but boys of a particular age.

Little boys who later grew up to tell what actually happened to them. Little boys whose entire lives were twisted and hampered by shame.

The lawsuits and the pay-offs were the tip of the iceberg.

Good to know you'd send your own little boys off to sleepovers with some man, so long as he was famous and made what you term good music.

According to a report by NBC News, authorities in the early 1990s investigation thought there might have been as many as eight or 10 other victims.

Michael Jackson sexual abuse allegations: The complete list of accusations. (slate.com)

Don’t put words in my mouth. Where is your evidence for these accusations, which, by the way, are bordering on the libellous ? Can you show me where l’ve said any of that in any of my posts. At no point did l say l was comfortable with it - l described it as odd and disturbing, but not proof in itself of abuse. And absolutely nowhere did l say that l would send my own children off to sleep over with any man, famous or otherwise, and l’ve said several times l wasn’t particularly a fan.

Then why are you so hellbent on correcting anyone who thinks he's guilty?

TheMarzipanDildo · 03/08/2024 23:20

The people who are convinced he’s innocent and those men are just liars should be made to watch that documentary. It’s harrowing.

littleburn · 03/08/2024 23:20

In his 2003 interview with Martin Bashir, Jackson (then 44) is on record saying he shares his bed with children that are not his own children. That's not in question or speculation, he says it on camera and names some of those children (all boys). Whatever the outcome of subsequent court cases, you either think that behaviour is ok and because he was an innocent/naive 'Peter Pan' character or you don't.

Mirabai · 03/08/2024 23:22

serialcatbuyer · 03/08/2024 23:00

It is weird that he would sleep in bed with them, and weird that their parents allowed it. But watching the documentaries it seems he was friends with them, like he had the mind of a child

Which is what he groomed you to think. Does he sing or dance like a child?

The lawsuits are not being brought against MJ himself, they are asserting that the businesses he owned had a duty of care towards them. This assumes that he was guilty of the abuse they allege. Tricky. He’s dead, and US law dictates that death terminates criminal responsibility.

Screamingabdabz · 03/08/2024 23:34

Middle aged man with fucked up issues since childhood and adopts weird persona, builds a remote fairground to entice children and sleeps in same bed with multiple young boys. All fact.

Complete nonce. His music disgusts me. I turn it off if it comes on the radio. If they play it in a shop, I walk out.

I’m not. I’m simply doing what everyone else here is doing - expressing my opinion, which is basically that all the conjecture in the world doesn’t change the fact that the jury decided there wasn’t enough evidence to convict. Opinion isn’t fact and doesn’t take into account that juries are privy to information not released to the public. Even allowing for the fact that feelings run high on subjects like these, expressing an opinion either way does not entitle other posters to level unfounded accusations of things that have clearly never been said or even implied.

vickylou78 · 03/08/2024 23:40

He wasnt convicted! He was investigated by the FBI and police and they never found evidence of anything. The alleged be victims were proven to be lying.

The two men who made the 'documentary' were also known liars who defended mJ in his previous cases. Their documentary has been debunked - there are several documentaries demonstrating that they lied.

The only ‘correcting’ l can find from this poster is directed at you, for the ridiculous assumption that defence lawyers get to hand pick juries. This thread gets more batshit with every post.

That documntary is a hit piece and very well acted! No investigative journalism happened there. There are several documentaries that debunk it and show they were lying. I've watched the documentary and all of the many debunking it. They want money.

serialcatbuyer · 03/08/2024 23:46

I have to say, as soon as I started watching Neverland I thought the Australian man was being dishonest, or putting something on. I watched the rest not coming to any conclusion, it was just at the start

Again one more time just for you as you seem to have ignored all my other posts I did NOT state that as fact, I asked if that was what happened. It's not batshit to believe he was a nonce, or to state that opinion. What is batshit is to believe that his behaviour was fucking normal!

Where have l said l disagree with that ? Everyone has their own opinion and the debate around those opinions is part of free speech. I’ve challenged others and been challenged myself. Nothing wrong with that.

Not sure anyone here, whether for or against MJ, would say his behaviour was normal. I certainly wouldn’t, but that in itself doesn’t prove he was guilty of the abuse he was accused of.

I was responding to a point you made that if the accusations were "sleeping in a bed with children" and if he'd been charged with that, he'd of been convicted.

My post was about the general tone of this thread, and referred to "how many posters on MN of all places seem to be perfectly comfortable with a grown man sleeping in a bed with random children"...

I was not accusing you, personally, of being fine with a grown man sleeping in a bed with or putting his hands down the pants of little boys, aged between 7 and 10 (clearly his preferred "type").

Though, given you've posted upwards of 45 times on this thread defending him and denigrating the testimony of the (many) victims, one would have to assume you do support MJ and hence this behaviour.

Firefly1987 · 03/08/2024 23:58

No adult should be sleeping in the same bed as a child, I used to get into my parents bed as a kid and it makes me sick now, they never should've allowed it. Although nothing untoward happened.

Yes if he was just some Bert Bloggs down the road you wouldn’t let your kids within a mile of the weirdo, but because he made Thriller and is rich, people bend themselves backwards to find him wholesome. Hence why some parents willingly let him abuse their kids. Thick.

Gill wasn’t. Huw was found guilty of receiving WhatsApp’s and the BBC have removed Dr Who’s with him in. It’s proven that MJ paid off young boys who had stayed over unaccompanied. Does anyone really think he didn’t molest them?
I don’t have strong feelings about ‘cancelling’ but OP is right to question why MJ hasn’t been.
