to say women don't have XY chromosomes?

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 11:55

Seeing a lot of posts on social media with people admitting they were "wrong" to call Imane Khelif a man, and that they now understand "she's a woman with XY chromosomes."

Am I going insane? A person with XY chromosomes is male! (Regardless of how they identify, of course.) Why are people saying stuff that is obviously nonsensical? Are people really that ignorant of basic biological facts?

Your feminist credentials are rubbish

are
you the arbiter on people’s “feminist credentials” 😂

Thank god you are not.

yes I’m a feminist. And I don’t hate trans women, or women with sex diverse development 💪🏻

Allah please. You are here arguing about a Muslim.

I'm asking you. Is this boxer a feminist? Is this boxer making a statement about the hijab. Is this boxer fighting with Allah's support without ever wearing a hijab?

I have no idea if she is a feminist or why she doesn’t wear a hijab.

e. It would fit with a baby in a developing country being believed female at birth but turning out not to be.

Yep and I'm questioning the " not turning out to be bit "

How easy is it for a 12 your old with a cervix to stop being a girl in Algeria or anywhere else for that matter?

Poof - you're a boy.

Where on earth are you getting that this person has a cervix? Where is that from? All that needs to happen is for the external genitals to look female or femaleish at birth, and the baby is recorded as female. Come puberty, all becomes obvious.

i don’t know who Emma Hilton is, but if she thinks she gets to decide a person is designated “male” simply because they have male pattern chromosomes , regardless of the rest of their physiological (and social) development then she is spreading cruel, harmful and nonsensical information.

Anyways I am not going to engage, as the information has been shared for all to educate themselves, and there’s no point arguing with people who continue to insist the earth is flat just because that’s simple to understand and what it looks like to them.

Social development as a woman is irrelevant. What matters is if her body gives her any advantages over other competitors.

So this is a Muslim woman about to become very rich without any word about the French hijab ban?

The hijab ban only applies to French competitors not to any other nationality,

I have no idea if she is a feminist or why she doesn’t wear a hijab.

It's a big deal though in the world of feminism? Being expected to cover up by men and in Paris where it's banned. What is going on there. Is this boxer now a feminist icon because they never wear a hijab and claim support of Allah?

Do tell.

Argument by assertion and denial. If you had more time we'd get the full house.

I'm starting to wonder about you as a poster. I don't think you're a troll, but there's no way you don't see the doublethink, dishonesty and sheer absurdity of your posts. It simply isn't possible. I think that for some reason, you are very emotionally invested in what you think championing this cause says about you as a person, and that emotional drive is strong enough to exist in your head alongside the knowledge that everything you say is absurd. It's the very nature of doublethink.

Sorry but you are the one who is ignorant of biology- although the facts are not “basic” but - as always with the physiology of human bodies - very complex.

Having XY chromosomes is not sufficient to make a person male. There are people born with XY chromosomes who are medically and legally female.

They may have “male” chromosomes , but insisting that this makes them “male” is both a nonsense scientifically and medically, and also deeply offensive and discriminatory.

I can recommend doing some reading about the physiology of human sex development and the variations it produces.

Take care.

Yes was just going to say what about genetic mutations of the sex chromosomes for example XXY chromosomes or even XO (no second X OR Y).

Turns out someone with a real y chromosome gave birth, but only because of their unique genetic make up disabling the Y chromosome. Possibley they werent even aware of it until they were later tested for another reason.

I read they have. Why are you so uptight about that?

" All becomes obvious "

In that simple sentence can you not imagine the denial, change, upset that might occur???

You talk as if we are not referring to human children?

Yes. It is. And there's no way you don't realise it.

What's this form of argument whereby you take a few points and repeat them as if that somehow stops them being true? Is it like a man becomes a woman just by saying he is?

But trans women have been allowed to compete in the olympics since 2004. 20 years and here we are, so no not the consequences of including trans people in sport.

Yes I’m a feminist

Edited

Not quite true. Prior to the 2016 Olympics, surgery was a requirement to male transgender people to compete. This was changed for the Rio Olympics.

And since 2021, some major sports have now excluded male transgender athletes or have made the entrance eligibility requiring very low testosterone levels.

Please be clearer about this.

I can well imagine that this was very distressing for all involved yes. But I don't think that someone that happened to, should get women's medals and accolades as a compensation for that. Women's sports aren't a consolation prize for males with DSDs, or any other males who've had a hard time. Women exist and matter too.

JeremiahBullfrog · 03/08/2024 20:00

There's a certain sort of person who's spent years telling us doctors sometimes make mistakes assigning "gender" at birth and can't be trusted, and now we have a prominent case where apparently the doctors actually have made a mistake and suddenly they're telling us the decision made at birth is more important than the information that supercedes it.

You're a feminist who thinks women can have penises, advocates pitting males against females in fights, would pass opportunities for elite women over to crap men and doesn't see any point to female athletes. You're a feminist whose every argument is based in fallacy, Newspeak, deflection, obfuscation, denial and argument by assertion. There is literally nothing else to it. It isn't just not feminism, it's male supremacism, it's dangerous, and it's absolutely barking.

I like the way you've inferred that crap men are as good as elite females when taking exception to the idea that there's no point to female athletes.

Oh do stop this obsession with cervixes.

A cervix is not 'proof' of being a woman.

Some women lose their cervixes through surgery (ie cervical cancer.)
Some women lose more through a hysterectomy.

Some women are born without a womb but they are still women. And some wanted to be pregnant but can't be.

Using a 'cervix' as some 'identity organ' is just silly.

Except there isn’t really any information that supersedes it? We know hardly anything about the medical facts here

Why? A performance by a woman, who does not have male advantage, becomes elite at a level that would be crap for someone who did have that advantage. Much like my schoolfriend who submitted A level coursework that was passable for degree level. The fact that it was only passable at degree level did not stop it being exceptional at A level, nor make A levels pointless.

You know this, though.
