to say women don't have XY chromosomes?

taylorswift1989 · 03/08/2024 11:55

Seeing a lot of posts on social media with people admitting they were "wrong" to call Imane Khelif a man, and that they now understand "she's a woman with XY chromosomes."

Am I going insane? A person with XY chromosomes is male! (Regardless of how they identify, of course.) Why are people saying stuff that is obviously nonsensical? Are people really that ignorant of basic biological facts?

I’m sorry that you find biological facts “hate filled rants”. There are only two sexes. There is really nothing I can say that can break it to you more gently. Real life is hard, and you may well struggle more in your future, sorry again.

Why did they not appeal the IBA decision?

The CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) makes the findings of their tribunals public. The IBA is not at liberty to release the rest results they based their decision on. An appeal means that information would become public. The competitors failure to appeal suggests something to hide. They also knew the IOC would only ask to look at their passport.

So your theory is she transitioned to rob a cis woman of a gold medal she was entitled to?

One example of a trans woman winning a gold medal in the pacific games, isn’t the end of female sports.

Edited

We can’t just ignore outcome just because we don’t know motivation.

Hepwo · 03/08/2024 19:37

This now famous female boxer has become a beacon of light for all Muslim women that don't want to wear a hijab hasn't she?

But when you say "women", you include men, so this is just dishonesty and doublethink masked in Newspeak. And earlier on, you asked what the point was in having female athletes if men could beat them, so why do you suddenly care now?

She was raised as a woman, she was born with a vagina.

Do you think that people born with vaginas are men?

Actually she most likely has a DSD which means likely she has something that looks like labia but has fully functioning male gonads putting her at a distinct unfair advantage. Just because in a conservative country someone with a medical condition leading to no penis is raised as a girl doesn't mean they are one. Normally 2/3rd transition to men when male puberty hits obviously in Algeria this would not be an option.

Hepwo · 03/08/2024 19:38

Are Muslim leaders around the world telling us that they are proud of her never wearing a hijab?

They are not biological facts.

*A DNA test versus a letter on a passport.

Complex indeed.*

I totally disagree with trans women being allowed into women's sport but a person who is born with DSD I haven't decided especially when they have grown up as one sex.

I have no idea what provision Algerian society would make for a DSD child to hop over to another sex. And no idea whether medical provision would even diagnose it.

Feel free to post Muslim leaders feminist support for this successful woman fighting without needing to cover hair.

I have no theory on his motivation to transition.

I'm telling you about the consequences of allowing men to compete in women's sport.

You seem to think that women losing out to a man doesn't matter if the numbers are small.

Feminist my arse.

Jurassicpark1234 · 03/08/2024 19:40

Educate yourself on androgen insensitivity syndrome and gonadal dysgenesis. These individuals outwardly have female external genitalia but can have be 46 XY. It’s not usually apparent until puberty when they have delayed or absent menarche. It’s very specialised reproductive endocrinology and is not always picked up.

Hepwo · 03/08/2024 19:40

But trans women have been allowed to compete in the olympics since 2004. 20 years and here we are, so no not the consequences of including trans people in sport.

sunglassesonthetable · 03/08/2024 19:21

@Runningupthecurtains

So you just egged that story about " scouring Southern Africa ".

And also rowers 🙄

Um no, British rowing (and cycling and many other sports have talent identification programmes, the bobsleigh programme seeks out sprinters who are quite making the grade and steers them towards bobsleigh). Some people come to a particular sport at a young age and it is their lifelong dream, others are picked up by 'recruiters' at a later stage and introduced to the idea of making it big (as a tall female I was asked if I'd tried rowing within 30 seconds of walking into the uni Freshers fair - but I'm lazy and not a morning person so it wasn't of interest to me).
It is widely accepted that these programmes in some areas sought out people with DSDs. You might not accept it, that is your right. You don't believe that people sought to exploit people with DSDs, I don't accept those boxers are females.
That's 1-1.

KielderWater · 03/08/2024 19:42

They are using F on the passport, and as we are all aware by now, in many countries it’s very easy to get the sex marker on your passport change by self ID.

Countries have drugged their athletes and abused them for years to win golds at the Olympics. We have posters on here telling us Russia has lied via the IBA (despite the results being verified by CAS). Yet somehow it is beyond a country to change a marker on one of their contestants passports?

If this athlete has the DSD 5ARD, which seems most likely, it would have become obvious at puberty. This is not new information for the athlete or anyone around them. And it's not complex to diagnose, male puberty and female puberty can't be mistaken for each other and an individual with 5ARD has male puberty. In an area of Dominican Republic where it's more common it's called 'balls at 12'.

So?

You have a lot to say about him as a feminist so what are your views on his influence on Muslim women that don't like being made to wear a hijab. He doesn't so what do you think are his feminist messages about that?
