Biological men should not be fighting women how is this even happening ?? Two 'women' failed eligibility tests by the IBA. Yet the IOC deem them suitable it's mind boggling

Aaaagh. We don't k now if she has X, Y Or 2 x ZZ chromosome. We don't know. Chances are she doesn't know. The "tests" performed are unknown what they were and results. Performed by a discredited Russian organisation . So much misinformation. She meets IOC criteria. She has done nothing wrong. I feel for the Italian as well, but as yet there is no validated evidence in the public domain that she has X and Y chromosomes.

I thought this would have been sorted after the Rio Olympics when men took out the gold, silver and bronze medals in the women's 800m race. I didn't realize they only fixed it for some specific events and men can still compete in other women's events like boxing and football.
I alao don't buy the naivety defence anymore.

That is not the case. I think the first case where foul play was suspected (a male taking part in females sport) was a white German athlete in the 1930s. Testing for sex started in the 1960s-70s as a result of doping, especially in Eastern Europe.

The results of the tests are unknown publicly because that is the athlete's private medical information. They're not unknown to the athlete, their trainers, or the IOC. That athlete knows full well and must have for some time, and continues to box women.

And meeting the IOC criteria means nothing as the IOC criteria is what is on your passport. And many counties allow self ID of male or female on your passport, some allow you to self ID as neither male nor female. So that's no kind of system at all to decide who belongs in a womens contact sport is it?

jeaux90 · 02/08/2024 08:27

The Olympics is not an event about inclusion or diversity. Nor is it about representation.

It's purely about sports.

Sports needs to be fair, they should bring back the cheek swab.

The boxer probably has the same DSD as Caster. Which means they are male.

They failed to qualify for the worlds as they are XY, a male.

I DGAF about the background, how they identify or how their genitalia presents, males should never be in female categories.

The IOC are craven cowards.

GrumpyPanda · 02/08/2024 08:29

MidnightPatrol · 02/08/2024 07:23

Very simply all women competing in high-level sport are going to need a DNA test.

It’s a shame for those with DSDs raised as girls who will no longer be able to compete due to their XY chromosomes.

I don’t see much other option though. How can you sensibly run events with male competitors.

This has been an issue for several years now, the lack of a resolution is because each sport / country has their own rules and the IOC doesn’t enforce a specific standard of testing across all sports.

This is not a transgender identity question - as with Caster Semenya, these competitors have probably lived their whole lives thinking they are female.

Semenya was treated as a boy growing up and wore male school uniform. In many such cases, the onset of puberty does make it clear what's actually going on, especially as conditions like Semenya's seem to come in regional clusters. So "their whole lives" is often unlikely, hence also how come it's even possible for national sporting authorities to deliberately recruit these type of athletes.

Of course those from less developed countries are the ones who end up in this position, as DSDs can be recognised much easier and earlier in a rich country.

Women's safety is not a culture war.

missmousemouth · 02/08/2024 08:31

Every single woman that has been accused of secretly being an undercover trans or man has been a woman of colour since the explosion of this topic into another front in the culture war

They aren't being targeted on the basis of race. If white XY individuals were ignored and only people of colour targeted then you might have a point. But that's not the case. Laurel Hubbard, for example, is white.

Semenya's own autobiography includes a photo of teenage Semenya on a school trip to the beach topless in swimming shorts. How many teenage girls on school trips to the beach are topless do you think?

You're quite right. Anyone who thinks no accusations were levelled against women competing for Eastern Bloc countries at that time isn't paying attention. Jamila Kratochvilova, for example. The difference is just that we have social media now.

The biggest factor now is wealth. We aren't seeing black athletes with Y chromosome from the US or the UK competing in the women's category, for example. This gets left out when people want to talk about the racial aspects.

What’s the scientific racism?

My understanding is that they have XY chromosomes and have a DSD / are intersex.

Caster Semenya top left. With a boy in boys' uniform and a girl in girls' uniform.

Which is Semenya wearing?

Agreed. That poor athlete, people as usual jump in with two feet without actually understanding what the athlete is, she is not trans she has a complex rare medical disorder. Disorder of sex development, read up on it and stop calling this woman trans she is not!!

He isnt a woman though

Someone with DSD is still either male or female, its just that their genitalia is ambiguous, not formed correctly for their sex, not visible etc etc. That is the disorder, they arent 'intersex' as in neither one nor the other, and neither are they both sexes at the same time

They are one sex either male or female

Thats all there is to it but once again people just dont understand this stuff

Gorgonemilezola · 02/08/2024 08:34

Caster Semenya knows they are male. They have always behaved as if they are male. They consider themselves male.

What does this mean?

I haven’t heard the competitors race mentioned until this thread (by you).

Their race is of no relevance surely?
