To think the Khelif issue is now raising more big questions in sport

Biological men should not be fighting women how is this even happening ?? Two 'women' failed eligibility tests by the IBA. Yet the IOC deem them suitable it's mind boggling

Sorry DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace, didn't see you'd already quoted the IOC.

BunfightBetty · 02/08/2024 09:09

Oh come on.

You’re wringing your hands over what Khelif’s feelings might be if he’s not allowed to compete with women, yet not capable of exercising any empathy towards the women who can’t compete because he’s taken their spot?

Why? Why only be upset about one person and not the other? And why reserve your upset for the person who doesn’t meet the criteria for the sport, rather than the one who does?

What is it that makes Khelif more deserving, in your eyes, than the other competitors?

DNA alone does not give you an advantage.

Male puberty does though.

Khelif was banned by the International Boxing Association in 2023! They haven't been discredited.

The International Boxing Association has been discredited as an organisation. Read up how they disqualified the two athletes.

Parroting the phrase ‘culture wars’ over and over doesn’t make facts or reality change and it won’t make those of us concerned with fairness shut up, either.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 02/08/2024 09:11

This idea of the poor athlete who believed themselves to be a woman is so tiresome. Same was bandied around with Caster Semenya
They were born with ambiguous genitalia. In most countries they would have been tested at birth and found to be male but, without testing, had F marked on birth certificate
They went through male puberty and would know then they were male as their bodies developed
They are often sought after by coaches to win in women's tournaments
They are probably mediocre but the male advantage, which they know about, means they can succeed against women
They are cheating men and they know it. All the hand wringing but no concern for the women and girls who miss out
And TRAs want males without DSDs to play in women's sport on words alone🤦‍♀️

This was in response to @Tandora but the quote failed.

What a time to be alive right - we watched a man, beat a woman up legally on tv - and there is nothing we can do about it. What a sad day to be a woman. I fear this will get worse - and I would absolutely discourage my daughter from contact sports where I now know - men can compete against her.

differentideas6578 · 02/08/2024 09:13

Watching Angela Carini cry in the ring is devastating. Her Olympic dreams destroyed. All that work, training, mental training all wasted as she didn't even have a chance to compete

Of course the other boxer in the same situation is Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan. It'll be 'interesting' to see how their match unfolds.

The IOC spokesman's statement

'"Everyone competing in the women’s category is complying with the competition eligibility rules," Adams said this week. "They are women in their passports, and it’s stated that this is the case, that they are female."'

So they're stated as women in their passports. That's OK then........

Yeah. IOC kicked out the organisation previously responsible for Box (the one that banned both of them) and didn't replace it with the new one (being created) yet. In this situation IOC took direct responsibility for boxing, fucked up and is trying to "tone it down" no and "prevent witchhunts" against their incompetence.

This is causing alarm in the world of boxing. Absolute mayhem. It’s causing alarm in the general population.
It isn’t just a few high profile GC women calling this bullshit out. You might wish this to be true, but like other areas of life, because you want it to be true doesn’t make it so.

Shame on you. The harm inflicted was a male bodied person punching her in the head. The weaponising is this person’s sob story about their hard life being pushed today.

A hard life doesn’t qualify you to be a woman competing in female sports. XX chromosomes do.

Naunet · 02/08/2024 09:15

Mayorq · 02/08/2024 09:08

They have tbf, they were stripped of ioc recognition for their corruption (which is a bit rich coming from the ioc)

Whether that discrediting invalidates the testing of the athlete in this instance is up for debate, but you can see why people aren't putting absolute faith in them wheen most people are shouting about T levels when that doesn't appear to be the basis of the secret test and also the athlete competed for a relatively long period without any such issues and have subsequently been ok'd by a federation of at least equal standing

So one corrupt organisation calls another out another corrupt organisation, and we’re meant to believe the one who has a vested interest in letting males into womens sport, something the IBA didnt do? Why’s that then?

The IBA can’t realise his private medical records, so what do you expect them to do? You know who could though? The very man in question, he could prove us all wrong and stop the distress if he wanted to, so why doesn’t he?

I am interested in the answer to this, too.

Sex is determined in three ways: chromosomes, hormones, sex organs.

Normally, all three align to determine ones sex.

In DSD, there is a misalignment between the three. This misalignment defers for each person with the diagnosis. Some will have the XY chromosome AND the hormonal profile of a man, but sex organs looking more like females. Others though will have the XY chromosome AND the female hormonal profile.

My understanding is that they were tested for their hormonal profile and the result was more of female than male at this time and that's why they were allowed to compete.

That's not correct. Where did you get that story?

They were tested in 2022 and 2023 and disqualified from competition.

For the olympics, there was no testing. They took the 'F' on the passport as proof.

Your understanding is wrong.

The only qualification according to the IOC was an F in their passport.
The IBA actually did tests and these two boxers failed. It was not a testosterone issue, they have been explicit.

Now, I have empathy for athletes with DSDs while they are teens discovering who they are. I have none when someone is well aware of their sex status but is choosing to ignore it for sporting and financial success.

There are women who have been and still are permanently displaced by the inclusion of these athletes who are competing in theme wrong class.

It's very simple. The IOC need to bring back swab testing.
