Angela Carini is the incredibly brave Italian boxer who had her Olympic dream shattered in less than a minute after being punched in the face by Imane Khelif, a male competitor who was disqualified from the women’s World Championships last year because his testosterone levels were too high.
Everyone should be saying her name. Over and over and over again.

The reason they will fight tooth and claw not to allow chromosomal testing is that if that becomes the norm, it starts the roll back of all the GRC / passport marker nonsense. One cheek swab can definitively prove what is a woman.

Biology don’t lie. Inconveniently.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/08/2024 18:25

I am not a rabid anti trans "feminist" but this decision to allow it was lunacy.

What a weird and prejudiced way to describe feminists who actually stand up for women's and girls' rights.

Given the nature of the press restrictions on reporting, it's hardly surprising that people are confused.

Look at how many people still don't realise that Caster Semenya is a man and has known he was a man since he was 18 at the very latest.

(In fact there are loads of photos of him dressed as a boy in his childhood, so I think he knew since at least puberty that he was male. There's even a photo of him as a teen in just a pair of shorts with no top on in his autobiography. I don't think many women would publish a topless teen photo of themselves).

And the way he speaks about women - it's clear he doesn't see himself as 'one of us'

I'm sorry, I do not think Angela was "brave", I think every female boxer should have boycotted the Olympics and refused to fight in the first place.
I am not a rabid anti trans "feminist" but this decision to allow it was lunacy.

You think that elite female athletes, who have trained for years to reach the pinnacle of their career and take part in the Olympics should boycott the Olympics?

How is that fair?

It should never have been allowed to get to this position in the first place. The IOC have created this horrific situation, and it's the females who are suffering for it (as per usual).

On the day publicly so they cannot get a replacement opponent

ll09sm · 01/08/2024 18:33

So men are allowed to get in a ring and beat women up?

Where are all the bleeding heart progressives criticizing other cultures for oppressing women?

Gazelda · 01/08/2024 18:36

I've just emailed the British Olympic committee to ask for their stance.

pinkducky · 01/08/2024 18:36

@PinkTonic the fact that they are Olympians is the very crux of this thread, but by all means take issue with whatever you like I suppose 👍🏻

Female athletes were happy to continue with the policy as evidenced during a poll at Atlanta where the overwhelming majority were in favour of continuing the policy, but the IOC decided to drop it. At that stage I suspect it was due to cost rather than anything more sinister but it opened the door to this kind of situation.

Oh they're all for this.

Poor, oppressed men y'know

Naumann · 01/08/2024 18:37

Khelif has been beaten by plenty of women before. Including at the last Olympics and world Championships. Maybe boxing just isn’t for Carini.

some of the reporting of this has been ridiculous. Yes they probably shouldn’t be competing, but immediately been jumped on by both sides of the trans debate when it’s not really the same issue.

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 01/08/2024 18:38

Seb Coe is wholly correct that it is an issue when where is no set policy and they ought to have one for clarity.

Mine would be that genetic chromosones override gender identity or socialisation, it is that simple.

If that means having men's/women's and then a third category for intersex and trans athletes, fine with me - you need a level playing field.

I felt the same about Caster Semenya, Francine Niyonsaba and Margaret Wambui when Lynsey Sharp was robbed then vilified.

Boxing is worse - the fact that Angela Carini may have a suspected broken nose and Brianda Tamara was relieved to get out the ring alive - no wonder that the UN's Violence Against Women and Girls, Reem Alsalem has spoken out against it.

Flossyts · 01/08/2024 16:26

I hate how this gets called out as being anti trans. I am not anti trans. I am against a woman being hit in the face by someone with all the genetic advantages of being male.
dress how you like, be who you want as long as this doesn’t unfairly or unsafely impact someone else.

Well, if "anti-trans" is when we protest this, then "pro-trans" must be the term for those who are quite happy for males to be punching women in the face.

I'll take "anti-trans" then.

This is not the 'trans debate'. This is the 'stop women from being beaten up by men on a global stage' debate.

HTH

It's not a trans debate. It's a men shouldn't compete in women's sports debate. Especially boxing. It's basic stuff.

ChishiyaBat · 01/08/2024 18:41

Ok, i've been in work all day, missed all the other threads. I have just watched that clip and it made cry, i'm so angry and absolutely gutted for Angela Carini, it is just all so unfair, he's a cheating piece of shit and she must feel so upset, her years of sacrifice and training for that absolute shit show.
I am so sorry this has happened to her.

@PadstowGirl i'll protest for sure and my daughter said she's there too!

THIS isn't fair.

It's about the future. By not walking out now, there will be NO female boxing in the future.

Someone has to make the sacrifice. It's cruel but no rights have ever been won or maintained without someone taking the initial fall.

How patronising. Why not just say Carini didn’t try hard enough?

Just because Khelif has been beaten before doesn’t negate the fact HE should not be competing in a women’s event. He has stolen a place from a woman, as has the other make boxer who fights tomorrow.

Appalonia · 01/08/2024 18:43

The horrific thing is that Angela could have been killed if she hadn't very quickly prioritised her safety and her life by pulling out of this match after FOURTY SIX SECONDS....I

She should NEVER have been put in this situation.

And the other female boxers that are going to be in the ring with this man over the next few days, what are they going to do??

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 01/08/2024 18:44

TheKeatingFive · 01/08/2024 18:24

How's that fair though, they've worked their whole lives for this? The IOC created this shitshow, they should be fixing it.

Absolutely IOC decision!! It was the wrong one!!!!!!, ergo, every biological f should have boycotted then there would be no f boxing Olympics. What's fair about boxing for a few seconds then realising you've taken a man punch to the face. I predicted that was gonna happen!! Why did a professional boxer not know that was gonna be the outcome?

actually it is. The IOC have said that as his passport says female and he is currently not pregnant, he is allowed to compete.

Btw, your sentence 'maybe boxing isn't for Carini' is basically women must try harder if they want to have chance at surviving competing against men. Total crap

PaminaMozart · 01/08/2024 18:46

Soontobe60 · 01/08/2024 16:40

I’m absolutely furious that this has been allowed to happen, and that spokespeople from the IOC are condoning it. I wept when I saw the footage of this ‘fight’. Carini is so very very brave for getting into the ring with someone she knows to be male - this fight will show the world what an absolute hell-hole gender identity politics is.

Absolutely this.

I hope this travesty of a boxing match will prove to be a watershed as far as women's and girls' sex based rights and the protection of their safety are concerned.

yourhairiswinterfire · 01/08/2024 18:46

I am not a rabid anti trans "feminist" but this decision to allow it was lunacy.

So it's proper feminism and fine for you to object to male's being allowed to pummel women, but other women (who have been warning about this for a long time) objecting to male's being allowed to pummel women are anti trans and pretendy feminists?
