Angela Carini is the incredibly brave Italian boxer who had her Olympic dream shattered in less than a minute after being punched in the face by Imane Khelif, a male competitor who was disqualified from the women’s World Championships last year because his testosterone levels were too high.
Everyone should be saying her name. Over and over and over again.

That's where "be kind" has got us women. Being punched in the face by a man. At the Olympics, for all the world to see.

She should never, ever have been put in this position but maybe, just maybe, finally the world will wake up and realise that "be kind", "it's such a toxic culture war", "bigots!", "shut up terf", "it's all so complicated", "it's a delicate situation" etc etc has led to this.

All because no one wants to have the conversation, they skirt around it and bluster. They ummm and ahhh.

It's not complicated. It's because no one wants to be the one in charge, and have to tell these men NO. They'd rather see women hurt and humiliated on a world stage, than tell a man to fuck off.

For fuck sake, why is it so hard to tell men NO, you can't do whatever the fuck you want?

nails it

Does this person have a DSD? People are saying there’s no trans person involved but I am not understanding what’s going on then.

The two boxers who have previously 'failed a gender eligibility test' to use the phrase the BBC have just used probably have DSD's. The problem is this is their private medical information so it can't just be released to the public by authorities.
The IOC have also slapped restrictions on the press so they are limited in how they can report the situation.
The IOC also have form for allowing men who identify as women to participate in the women's category so there is a degree of guess work and speculation.

SweetcornFritter · 01/08/2024 18:06

Whilst I don’t believe this person should be boxing in a ring as a woman it is worth noting that out of 14 professional matches they have lost 5 of them (according to their Wiki page). That means women have beaten this man in a boxing ring on at least 5 occasions.

Willmafrockfit · 01/08/2024 18:07

the person today is so i heard intersex, the same as Castor, when Castor was just running!
this is appalling for olympic boxing

Appalonia · 01/08/2024 18:07

THEY ARE NOT INTERSEX, HE IS A MAN!

Kerchinger · 01/08/2024 18:08

There is nothing remotely transphobic in this debate.

I don't understand anyone thinking this is okay. Particularly any transwoman. Why would any one wishing to identify as a woman wish for women to have the shit kicked out of them by men???

Anyone that thinks there is anything remotely okay with thinking it's acceptable for biological men to beat up biological women is so messed up in the head, they deserve no right to express their opinion.

Flossyts · 01/08/2024 16:26

I hate how this gets called out as being anti trans. I am not anti trans. I am against a woman being hit in the face by someone with all the genetic advantages of being male.
dress how you like, be who you want as long as this doesn’t unfairly or unsafely impact someone else.

This! I completely agree.

There are multiple reasons not to take this as gospel. Even the wiki founder says don't believe everything written on it as anybody can edit it.

I suggest you read the other 1,000 post thread where other reasons has been explained by more knowledgeable people.

Just because they haven't won every fight doesn't mean they don't have an advantage.

Doesn't matter. They've taken a spot of a woman who should rightfully be there but couldn't because of a cheating man.

Sky making a desperate attempt at being impartial - the bare facts still show how FUCKING INSANE this is.

I can't quite verbalise how angry and upset I am on behalf of Angela Carini and all other women in sports being stolen by men.

What can I do with this anger? I feel like I'm going to fucking explode.

Explained: Controversy over boxing gender policy

Sky Sports' Geraint Hughes explains why Italy's Angela Carini pulled out of her fight against Algeria's Imane Khelif after 46 seconds.

I did not know this, ducky. It certainly changes the narrative just a little. I can certainly feel sorry for anyone born with ambiguous genitalia and brought up as the wrong sex.

However, these men should have done the honourable thing once their real sex was confirmed. They should have refrained from punching women in their pursuit of Olympic glory. That remains most people's position, I am sure!

There are a fucking million other skills they could learn that DO NOT INVOLVE PUNCHING WOMEN or COMPETING AGAINST THEM IN WOMENS SPORTS.

PadstowGirl · 01/08/2024 18:18

This is absolutely appalling.
What can we do about this? I would happily go to a protest.

bathofbeans · 01/08/2024 18:20

apologies @hepsitemiz - I wasn't shouting at you!

I'm just so furious with the IOC and everyone else that condones, enables and promotes this.

Don't know but we do know the boxer has xy chromosomes and went through male puberty. You don't hit people with your penis so possession of one is irrelevant

We do know this. That isn’t in dispute even by the men themselves

And possession of a penis is what makes you male and having gone through puberty makes you potentially stronger and faster than females that is the whole point of having segregated events.

I'm sorry, I do not think Angela was "brave", I think every female boxer should have boycotted the Olympics and refused to fight in the first place.
I am not a rabid anti trans "feminist" but this decision to allow it was lunacy.

PinkTonic · 01/08/2024 18:23

pinkducky · 01/08/2024 16:47

I admit I have some sympathy for these two biologically male Olympians. As far as I've read, they were believed to be female from birth (they may well not have a penis in answer to another pp) and have always competed within female leagues. To me, it's quite different to a man who was born a man, fought mediocrely against men, and then decided to "become" a female in order to box in the olympics.

Despite that, I accept that they have biological advantages over the women and it isn't fair that they compete.

I think a lot of the reporting on this has been so vague that many believe these Olympians are trans.

I take issue with your repeated use of the term Olympians. It’s overwhelmingly unlikely that they would be ‘Olympians’ if they had been competing in the correct category against others of the same sex. They reached the level of Olympian through cheating.

hepsitemiz · 01/08/2024 18:23

No worries beans I totally get your anger! I feel the same way actually.

Windymoore · 01/08/2024 18:24

The more I think about that s,the more details strike me: how DARE he pat her on the back to comfort her!!! F**k off!!! My sympathy for this sort of thing has been running out for a while, this has made it go completely. Life's not fair, you (at best) have a DSD, so competitive sport against women is not for you. And if you still persist, then I don't have to hold back on my view that you put a women beater, using male advantages to do so.

GreenyBlues · 01/08/2024 18:24

Kaylia Nemour a trans woman is doing very well in the women's gymnastics at the moment too, she has a very male physique and strength.

How's that fair though, they've worked their whole lives for this? The IOC created this shitshow, they should be fixing it.
