Angela Carini is the incredibly brave Italian boxer who had her Olympic dream shattered in less than a minute after being punched in the face by Imane Khelif, a male competitor who was disqualified from the women’s World Championships last year because his testosterone levels were too high.
Everyone should be saying her name. Over and over and over again.

This was a boxing match. Both participants, who voluntarily participated in this sporting event are legally recognised women.

Calling this male violence against women is all kinds of discriminatory and makes a mockery of male violence against women.

No it doesn't.

Yes I am a feminist; because I believe that women are equal to men. I believe we live in a deeply sexist and misogynistic society that discriminates against women and privileges men, and condones and justifies male violence against women. I dedicate my personal and professional life to challenging the conditions that support male privilege wherever I see them.

I also support the rights and dignity of trans, sex variant and gender non conforming people of all types; I recognise that the biological and social aspects of sex and gender are diverse, varied and complex. I recognise fear of trans and sex variant people as rooted in homophobia and misogyny.

Discriminating against people with sex variations and trans people does not define feminism.

Nah you aren't a feminist because apparently you're happy to chuck females under the MRA bus. You are a supporting beam in upholding that very same sexism and misogyny you purport to be so against.

It's quite clear to anyone who has read your posts exactly where you stand on women's rights and feminism - against the females and all for the males.

What rights do trans people not have?

What is sexual fascism?

How can you write any of what you write with a straight face? It's utter nonsense.

Discrimination? See the GIF.

This isn’t feminism.

Any viewpoint that prioritises men’s feelings over women’s rights isn’t feminism.

I’m sure you think you are ‘being kind’, but unfortunately, all you are doing is perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes and pissing all over hard won women’s rights.

Unfortunately, education, social work, healthcare and even women’s organisations are full of no doubt well meaning women like you who want to be kind and inclusive, and dont mind selling out the rights, safety and dignity of woman and children to achieve this.

A strange, strange era we are living through.

No feminist ever supported men (XY chromosomes) competing in women's sport. You're utterly deluded and you're certainly not a feminist.

Having XY chromosomes does not make a person a man. See my thread about CAIS.

yes we all saw evidence of misogynist society, men being privileged, when a man competed in the women’s boxing which you apparently are fine with.

I’m sorry, this person isn’t trans though? She was registered as female at birth, brought up as female? She has a disorder of sex development, certainly, but hasn’t undergone a full male puberty. She isn’t a man. She has never been a man.

surely all this case shows is that gender isn’t a simple and cut-and-dried as some would like to think?

Gender. Isn't. Real.

Some people have disorders of sexual development, which in some cases means unfortunately they should not be allowed to compete in women's sporting categories.

Trans people should be competing in the correct sex category and this should not be controversial.

Acknowledging that there are situations where sex matters has always been the definition of feminism. And prioritising male people over the needs of female people as you have just stated, is misogynistic.

Female people are equal to male people in their ability to get things done. However, female people are NOT male people and cannot be treated as just another male person. If you understood this as feminism, then I suggest you will always be proven wrong. Female people need accommodations because of their sexed body. This has always been the case. You seem to have misunderstood the nature of the 'equality' that was sought. It was equality of opportunity. It was NEVER female people being treated as if they were male people. Because that would have been harmful to female people.

For example, female people had very different lifting limits for roles where lifting was needed. It did not mean that female people should be discriminated against for not being able to lift as much as male people, because it was recognised that female people contributed equally to the role, but needed this accommodation. These days, there are now many devices used so that even those with less ability to lift the old maximum weight limits in roles can do so without harm.

This is just one way that female people sought equity, not 'equality' as you are describing.

When it comes to sport, the same equity applies. It is about giving female people the same equal opportunity to achieve their greatest potential, and to win. This cannot, or will very rarely, happen when a female athlete is competing against a male athlete.

Again, this is not Sex Fascism as you have derisively described it on other threads. This is equity based on scientific fact, rather than philosophical theory and belief.

It is not giving female athletes 'equality' to include any athlete who is male in their sporting events. That is giving those male people, who belong to a sub group of male people who may need special accommodations for their own needs, the additional rights of competing in a protected category where that group collectively is known to have a physical advantage.

Treating a sub group of males with pubertal advantage as if they were female people for the application of sport is not EQUAL!

CakeAtFour · 01/08/2024 21:57

‘Gender identity’ should have fuck all to do with sport. Sex categories based on ‘feelings’ or ‘how someone presents’ are meaningless. It’s really straightforward.

Say what now?

@Whoahnelly First off all “intersex” doesn’t exist, people with DSD are either genetically male or genetically female, depending on whether they have Y chromosomes.

And no one is discriminating against people with DSD, what people are rightly angry about is someone with DSD -with the full co operation and connivance of their country, and the helpful non intervention of the IOC- using their DSD to cheat their way into a sport in the hopes of getting a medal and the kudos, fame and presumably monetary gain that that produces. Call that discrimination if you want, I call it standing up for equality and fair play in women’s sport.
