Angela Carini is the incredibly brave Italian boxer who had her Olympic dream shattered in less than a minute after being punched in the face by Imane Khelif, a male competitor who was disqualified from the women’s World Championships last year because his testosterone levels were too high.
Everyone should be saying her name. Over and over and over again.

I am interested in this statement made by reddux in @WarriorN 's post.

Does anyone have any more info on this?

In the past, male athletes with DSDs have been actively sought out by national Olympic teams because they have a substantial advantage over females and can fly "under the radar" thanks to their "female" legal documentation.

I'm with Angela.
I am completely pro trans and don't have any problem whatsoever if someone genetically female wants to live life as a male or vice versa. It makes no difference to me at all, why would it?
BUT
In competitive sports it is undeniable that a GENETICALLY male person has a different musculoskeletal system.
If you look at two skeletons you can tell which one is male and which is female from the shape of the bones. It's just genetics. Nothing to do with build or hormones etc. I think we learnt this in GCSE biology! Maybe even earlier!
Therefore anyone genetically XY should not compete in any physical sport against XX. It's sad because this boxer clearly has a lot of talent but it simply isn't fair to let them compete in a female competition.
Sometimes in life we have to accept that things aren't possible. Like if you're born with no arms you no doubt accept you can't be a champion pianist. Plenty of other stuff you can excell in...
I think genetically male athletes competing in female competitions should just have to accept it in a similar manner and just do the sport for "fun" (or maybe have a different trans Olympics?)

Is sport the only place you draw the line?

Because I struggle to understand the mentality of someone who is fine with male rapists being locked up in women's prisons or female rape survivors being denied single sex support "because trans women are women", but draws the line at sport. Surely being locked up with a male rapist who then rapes you is worse than having your sporting dreams dashed because a biological male is allowed to compete in your category.

And if you aren't fine with those things either, then clearly you don't actually think male people should be allowed to "live as women" in all circumstances, and indeed, trans activists would think you were an evil TERF.

sanluca · 01/08/2024 20:02

Just for everyone's knowledge, Swyer is a person with xy chromosomes that develops female genitalia but NO ovaries (or testes). They never go through puberty unless given hormone therapy. So chances this dude has Swyer is zero.

HappySonHappyMum · 01/08/2024 20:03

This is going to continue though - tomorrow Lin Yu Ting (the other male boxer with XY chromosomes in the female category) will be fighting Sitar Turdibekova. - so it's going to happen all over again. The day after that Khelif with be back in the ring against Anna Luca Hamori. That's two more women who are likely to be injured fighting males. The reality is that this is going to become a huge issue over the next few days - these boxing competitions don't finish until the 9th and 10th of August - and it will overshadow the Olympics - I am willing it too. I feel desperately sad that these women you have trained for years will have their journeys' ruined it's so unfair. I really think it's time the women in these boxing categories stood together and refused to fight because of the injustice. It's the only way.

Are we 100% sure they were born male? The wording in the articles is really confusing. Why don’t they say trans if she’s trans?

The wording is confusing because of restrictions placed on reporting on people's sex.

He's not trans as far as I know, there's no suggestion of that. He seems to be a man with a DSD.

It explains how all medals in the Rio 800m went to people with DSDs

I don't have links handy but it's been discussed a lot on FWR over the years.

Scouts have definitely sought out boys with DSDs, usually from poor countries where early genetic testing wasn't an option, to exploit the advantage and money they can make.

There's a lot of collusion gone on which is why a few years ago the 800m female sprint had 3 males on the podium taking gold, silver and bronze.

Since then small measures have been taken by the IOC to try and make it less obvious but the public has been lied to and gaslighted for years. A lot of women are owed apologies, their rightful medals back and a hell of a lot of compensation.

JaneVtwaddle · 01/08/2024 20:08

Well this is literally smacking people in the face isn't it.

We Cant ignore this anymore, surely.

fazak · 01/08/2024 20:08

Obek1999 · 01/08/2024 17:09

She? What are you talking about? He's a man.

She has a disorder of sexual development (intersex) and was raised as a girl. This is not the same as being born and raised unambiguously as a boy then transitioning. I think under those circumstances it’s the right thing to do to use ‘she’. It’s okay that you don’t, but I’m not doing something so absurd that it warrants ‘what are you talking about?’ as a response.

Whatever, it doesn’t matter which pronoun she or we use. What matters is whether as a result of her DSD she has a significant and dangerous advantage over other boxers. If she does (and it looks likely to me) then I don’t care if she’s male or an XY female, she shouldn’t be fighting in the women’s category. I think we agree on that, no matter what we call her?

I'd put money on the "females" fighting to deliberately lose to put paid the controversy.

Agreeing to call males of any age 'she' is where all this mess starts and why even in the face of what happened today the media are unable to report coherently on what's going on so the public can understand it clearly.

Appalonia · 01/08/2024 20:12

There's going to be protests in Paris tomorrow. Don't expect the MSM to report on them, but they'll definitely be posted on Twitter. This needs protesting on a worldwide stage.

gailforce2 · 01/08/2024 20:14

Where are the BBC reporting it. On "X" Sharron Davies said that she was going to take this issue up with the BBC and Judy Murray was also tweeting about it (sorry do no have the IT skills to link).

So far we’ve had an opening ceremony with a heartwarming little piece on diversity featuring men and transwomen / drag queens …the Dutch fielding a child rapist athlete…and male versus female boxing

Paris 2024. So modern and inclusive <sigh>

This!

The world has gone mad hasn’t it. He/she certainly looks very masculine, you could see the physical difference in muscle and arm length.

What is Title IX?

It's a civil rights ruling that protects sex discrimination (since 1972) in any education setting that receives federal funding. It's how girls are able to access sports programmes and scholarships on an equal footing with boys.

Biden changed it so boys/men can include themselves as female which will destroy sports at that level for girls. I believe he threatened to remove funding for institutions who did not comply.

It's deeply shameful and further evidence Biden is not some great dude people have been hoodwinked into thinking he is.

Women and girls across the US can look forward to the sort of treatment Angela faced today with their President cheering it on.

suburberphobe · 01/08/2024 20:21

^I hate how this gets called out as being anti trans. I am not anti trans. I am against a woman being hit in the face by someone with all the genetic advantages of being male.
dress how you like, be who you want as long as this doesn’t unfairly or unsafely impact someone else.^

Well said. I agree.

Genuine, Genuine question: how does the President of the United States get captured by this minority of mentally unwell people? I honestly and truly do not get it. I don't think it's popular (see Scotland!) among the electorate so what's in it for him? Grateful for anything to shed light on this.

#IStandWithAngelaCarini

Needs to be on a t-shirt; I would wear it.

How the hell did we get here? Men do not belong in women's sports. If they are unable to compete against their own sex then so be it. Not a woman's place to budge up for them.

I feel so, so sorry for these women who have had their one shot at Olympic success dashed. Disgusting.

Can we get a T Shirt? Men are so insecure they have to fight in women's categories to win.
Those two boxers would be mincemeat in the comparable mens weight categories.

californiaisdreaming · 01/08/2024 20:26
