Well how? My budget will only stretch to supermarket own brand beans, yet everywhere I look people are eating Heinz beans. How do they afford it?

Branston's are much nicer and also cheaper.

But didn't even Branson's use to be 4 for £1 from Poundland. (When Poundland meant what it said)

LeavesOnTrees · 01/08/2024 00:37

This is mumsnet, why aren't you all batch cooking beans?
I'm sure Jamie Oliver has a recipe.

Yes I know, I must have seen like thirty people eating beans today and they were all Heinz. It’s literally everywhere. When will the madness stop?

😂😂😂

Salumthecat · 01/08/2024 02:39

We buy them but that’s because DP is an immigrant and I’m on disability benefits.

We can only afford to eat a bean a week but we must conform to the stereotype…

Not us. M&S beans are 45p per tin and taste good.

Agree 👍🏻

BakedBeanCounter · 01/08/2024 04:55

We moved out if London to The North. It means we have to watch the local news with the subtitles on and buy our clothes from market stalls, but it was all worth it to be able to have HBB and remain debt-free. There is life outside of London, doncha know.

nutbrownhare15 · 01/08/2024 04:58

I don't know but I heard a rumour that Labour are going to put extra VAT on Heinz beans. And good on them. Why should other people get the luxury of eating them. I could afford it but I don't buy them out of principle.

We don't go on foreign holidays. We don't own a car, or have Sky. Basically, we're fiscally responsible and our cupboard full of heinz beans is a visual representation of that. HTH OP.

I had to give up avocado toast and takeaway lattes, but it was worth it. Beans are cheaper here in the North.

TheWebsFromAllTheSpiders · 01/08/2024 05:15

M&S and Aldi beans are exactly the same and a lot cheaper

TeachesOfPeaches · 01/08/2024 06:23

I actually can't afford them but I have a 'show can' that I reuse and refill with Aldi beans. Great for when you have guests and want to really impress

baroqueandblue · 01/08/2024 06:31

In the last few years, while many were forced to turn to food banks, we've been fortunate enough to be able to afford Heinz baked beans and keep the aga running. But with VAT on the children's school places looming, I fear even those little luxuries are under threat. Not a scenario I'd ever expected to face, but I'm afraid that's life under Keir Starmer's Labours 🤷‍♂️

TerfTalking · 01/08/2024 06:33

I buy Heinz but when I see them on special offer or in places like B&M. I would never pay their full whack price anymore, and yes the M&S beans are great for the price.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 01/08/2024 07:21

Slightly used car and only 2 holidays a year for us, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for my kids to have Heinz. I guess I just value my children's right to good baked beans more than others. Different priorities.

Willmafrockfit · 01/08/2024 07:27

i used to prefer Cross and Blackwell

now just go with value, be it tesco asda or lidl

AntoinetteCurtain · 01/08/2024 09:09

Have you noticed how there's a total press blackout about this serious issue.

I bet they're eating beans at number 10. I heard a rumour that the cat there has beans for breakfast every day, a whole tin. Greedy bastard

Just like my coke bottle 😂😂

Auburngal · 01/08/2024 09:17

As mentioned in the food related thread - Heinz is a very inferior and rip off brand. They are marketing to the ignorant thinking their products are the best "Its got to be Heinz"

I'm sticking to my Lidl beans and can get (can't remember if its exact for a few pence more) 5 cans for the price of one Heinz.

AlanBrendaCelia · 01/08/2024 09:20

You are ALL being unreasonable. Baked beans are the most disgusting thing known to man and no one should be buying any brand of them.🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Oh FFS, some people can afford champagne, lobster and caviare! Not all, but some. We all have different levels of income, and different spending priorities. And, let's face it, baked beans have never been considered a luxury item.....

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Motomum23 · 01/08/2024 11:44

I feel this way about alcohol. Its a pointless waste of a lot of money how on earth do people justify spending anything more than a fiver every few weeks for a bottle of wine or a case of beer. ??

Rubyupbeat · 01/08/2024 11:57

I LOVE baked beans and only Heinz baked beans, so there is no chance of getting a different make.

And this is why young people can't get on the housing ladder
