To not know how people can afford Heinz Beans?

Well how? My budget will only stretch to supermarket own brand beans, yet everywhere I look people are eating Heinz beans. How do they afford it?

My grandfather was a baked bean baron and gambled them all away in the casino of Nice one hot, crazy summer evening.

Grand-mama tried to stop him of course, and went so far as to visit their bank vault in the old town to eat an entire four-pack. She then sped in a taxi to the roulette table, and clung to Grand-papa and let rip, hoping to pump them both away from the gambling lounge through the open fenêtres and into the sea where he might come to his senses.

Too late, alas. As they hurtled through the air, he cried that he was already ruined.

They were, frankly, both quite broken by the experience.

Baked beans. A gateway to gambling.

bluebeck · 31/07/2024 19:48

DD recently sold a kidney (non bean variety) in order to fund the purchase of a Heinz four pack.

It’s obviously the only way Gen Z will ever get on the Bean Ladder 😢

NasiDagang · 31/07/2024 19:55

Make your own baked beans, it's not too hard.

MidnightMusing5 · 31/07/2024 19:57

Costco

No wonder we have an obesity crisis eating a full bean, I cut it into 7 have a piece a day with a massive salad!

How much do these MASSIVE salads cost though???

Have you never thought to turn one of the rose borders over to grow your own? Haricot beans and tomatoes are super easy to grow alongside the massive salad leaves.

They earn more than you . What a stupid question 🤦‍♀️🙄

GigiAnnna · 31/07/2024 20:17

I buy the cheapest ones from Lidl and Aldi. They are about 28p. I think they are better than the mid range ones and perfectly fine. If i really loved Heinz beans, I would cut back elsewhere. But they are just beans, a simple staple food. So I will not pay £1.89 a tin.

WeAreBorg · 31/07/2024 20:31

Apparently Pythagoras died whilst being chased in a field of beans as he didn’t want to tread on the souls of his dead friends. I think £1.40 to eat your friends souls is pretty reasonable and I’m happy to forfeit other luxuries to continue soul-eating

Onabench · 31/07/2024 20:35

well some people don't budget and just buy whatever and end up in debt. Or some people are wealthier 🙂

Topofthemountain · 31/07/2024 20:41

Why do you shop? The co-op?

Even at super expensive Sainsbury's they're only £1.40.

HaveToSaySomethingHere · 31/07/2024 20:56

And why has nobody here explained to OP that comparison is the thief of joy.

Perhaps you could count up how many people got the joke and how many didn’t.

GiveMeThePurpleOne · 31/07/2024 22:11

I eat tesco own brand.. They are the nicest beans I've had so far.
Heinz are watery crap, Branston were the best but then went the same way as heinz.
Morrisons were ok but cheapend out as well.
So it's tesco for now.

Sunshineandpool · 31/07/2024 22:17

It's the tin of beans with little veggie sausages in for me. Used to get Sainsbury's own for my teen. Now only see Heinz and about £2 a tin!

How? Crowd funding?

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 31/07/2024 22:24

I get them off the back of a lorry or from a man down the pub.

Obviously I wouldn't usually condone supporting shoplifters for other people, but if I REALLY need some branded beans to go with my other essentials like scent boosters for my laundry it seems wrong of society to expect me to deprive myself.

PonyPatter44 · 31/07/2024 22:27

All baked beans are basically the lumpy semen of Satan, so you are ALL utterly unreasonable.

Asda last time I checked a few weeks ago.

1dayatatime · 31/07/2024 22:47

What depresses me most about this thread is that 10 years ago I would be asking what the hell are you on about "not being able to afford Heinz Baked Beans " - but now I completely relate and agree to this post.

OrwellianTimes · 31/07/2024 22:49

They work out 50p a tin from Costco. I only eat a tin once every few weeks, rather have the better flavour over tescos own.

skippy67 · 31/07/2024 23:01

We don't go on foreign holidays. We don't own a car, or have Sky. Basically, we're fiscally responsible and our cupboard full of heinz beans is a visual representation of that. HTH OP.

Jux · 31/07/2024 23:15

Branston's are much nicer and also cheaper.
