To not know how people can afford Heinz Beans?

Well how? My budget will only stretch to supermarket own brand beans, yet everywhere I look people are eating Heinz beans. How do they afford it?

I hear you OP. We work really hard and can't understand what we're doing wrong. DC has never has Heinz and we last had them 20 years ago. (Friends' luxury wedding.)

I bet they're massive beans though? And you use the leftovers to make pie, risotto and shepherd's pie later in the week

You are right, I like them with my annual whole chicken that I can make last for 11 months for my family of 7.

Sometimes I halve a bean for a simple lunch

Topofthemountain · 31/07/2024 18:33

I buy cheap in bulk and stash them. When the zombies come, I can either lob the tins at their heads or consume them and gas the zombies out.

Anyway next week I'm going on holiday and will buying a singular tin of Heinz BB. Money bags me.

Even Asda essentials (previously smart price) beans are 27p. I remember when they were 4p.
Mind you, when ex and I first lived together 20 years ago we could get a leg of lamb for 97p and have a Sunday roast.

You were robbed. My butcher used to pay me to take away a leg of lamb that was cluttering up his shop on a Monday.

Doggymummar · 31/07/2024 18:34

Tesco's here reduced salt and sugar

Taking out loans/extending their mortgage/financial help from family I would guess?

This made me laugh out loud

Whatineed · 31/07/2024 18:35

I've just headed to Zurich to move some money around and release some bean funds. I keep a four pack of Heinz Beans with pork sausages in my vault there. I've requested they be divided amongst family members if anything happens to me.

I don’t eat beans but my son prefers Heinz and I buy them in cases of 24 from Costco which works out quite reasonable

Bet he couldn’t tell which was which in a blind taste test!

RobertSalamander · 31/07/2024 18:36

Firstly, how often are you watching people prepare baked beans??

Secondly Heinz are disgusting and Branstons are epic.

Thirdly this reads exactly like all the ‘how are people affording holidays?’ threads just substitute in beans. So not sure if to take it seriously or not 😄

GinAndBeerIt · 31/07/2024 18:36

I haven't bought Heinz anything for years. I find their stuff overpriced and over hyped.
Other brands are much nicer and cheaper.

And scraping off the mould from the carcass you can make your own penicillin & save a fortune on prescriptions.

M&S are nicer!

pinksheetss · 31/07/2024 18:37

The Heinz beans and sausages are often on a deal of 5 for £5 at my Asda

Whatineed · 31/07/2024 18:37

Jagoda · 31/07/2024 18:28

No, they all do it in public to demonstrate their wealth and culinary superiority.

Bean Bastards!

Yeah but we know they've just pasted a Heinz label over the Aldi one...

It’s a real quandary, isn’t it?

CakeDream · 31/07/2024 18:38

It's about being frugal. I buy a tin on special offer every Christmas for our family of four. We each have two beans a day and It last for the whole year.

People just aren't willing to live below their means.

Nourishinghandcream · 31/07/2024 18:38

We buy our Heinz beans in bulk from Costco.👍

BobnLen · 31/07/2024 18:39

Same as they can afford cars, kitchens, holidays, whatever the latest 'how can they afford it' thread is about.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 31/07/2024 18:39

You can cook a chicken and a tin of beans and it will last a family of four people at least ten days.

Jealousy isn't a good look OP.

notacooldad · 31/07/2024 18:41

Lol OP is taking the piss about the endless similar threads
How would you even know.
Some of these threads are bonkers.

notacooldad · 31/07/2024 18:42

It would last longer if you made a 'MASSIVE' salad to go with it!

GoldMerchant · 31/07/2024 18:43

Look, it's just about what you prioritize, isn't it? DH and I have a line on our budget for Heinz beans because making those core memories of serving my kids beans on toast for dinner when I'm tired, stressed and ten seconds away from running down the road screaming and never looking back is important to us.

TiredArse · 31/07/2024 18:43

We’re being robbed though. It’s cheaper to buy them in Spain, for example, than it is in bloody Asda.

Well I can afford a holiday and a single tin of baked beans.
