To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

Love floaty dresses in this heat, I’m a size 10 with a thigh gap, even at my heaviest when pregnant my thighs didn’t rub, I think it’s more to do with shape than weight, I have wide hips.

Scorchio84 · 31/07/2024 14:24

Thanks everyone who mentioned liquid talc, I never new it was a thing! I'm definitely looking into this for under my boobs!!

Thanks so much for all the replies I was not expecting that!!

I would like to lose a bit of weight but that's not going to happen before the end of summer and as I said, my thighs always do this. Reassuring to hear it's probably down to shape. Not much I can do about that!

I have the M&S shorts and they're great but still sweaty. I might try the Sloggi as I have some of their other pants, and maybe the snag ones although seems varying reviews of that!

I had the lanacane (?) gel before but I'll try the others mentioned. And will try roll on deodorant! Never heard of liquid talc but will try to track some down!

I have the M&S ones along with the Snag and Next ones, the M&S ones do make me sweatier. The Snag ones are best in my opinion followed by the Next ones I have.

BurbageBrook · 31/07/2024 14:25

Depends on your body shape surely. My thighs have never rubbed together.

Haraldhardrada · 31/07/2024 14:25

I feel cooler in dresses! Especially floaty or loose fitting ones. Trousers or shorts are always tight around the middle. I like to feel the breeze!

Waterboatlass · 31/07/2024 14:26

Mitchum deodorant on the thighs

DaemonMoon · 31/07/2024 14:26

BMI of 21 and I get chub rub. Hourglass figure. I am sure I hold water in my inner thighs and armpits because some days they are bigger than others. Even in the winter, I cannot go running in shorts, it has to be leggings.

I think it's just as hot here as abroad for some parts of summer amd I like to wear a dress. I use the snag chubrub tights (does anyone have any recommendations of other brands as I don't want to give them any future purchases?) under dresses. Yes they're slightly sweaty but I'm sweating anyway. 🤷

If I'm doing lots of walking though I tend to opt for shorts and t-shirt.

I couldn't not wear dresses all summer! I love a nice dress. Feel much more frumpy in shorts.

Better tights are an alternative company

Thanks to this thread I have now ordered these from Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C3CLYFRJ?psc=1&smid=A1XHNONWWMO5BT&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp

I can now throw out my snag chub rub tights which are far too hot for me (and I am also now anti-snag and cannot believe I gave them any of my money)

These sort of thing are perfect. I wear cycling shorts mostly under dresses in the heat. If it is REALLY hot I wear the shorts with no knickers on so I'm not adding an extra layer.

Conniebygaslight · 31/07/2024 14:28

Omg me too and I have very slim legs, I’m size 10-12. I don’t understand it at all!

MixedCouple2 · 31/07/2024 14:29

Dr Andrea Dray suggests Sudacream for chaffing.

AlbertaWildRose · 31/07/2024 14:29

Can I just say how much I hate the term "chub rub"? It's awful. I have never had a thigh gap, even in my 20s when I was teeny tiny. My thighs now are muscular, so I wear these (cooling style) under dresses and they're amazing: thighsociety.ca/collections/all-styles

@Twitchyeyebrow curious as to why you don't want to give them any further purchases? Just wondering as I buy my tights from there.

probably due to upset around some of their products being NSFW . These products are aimed at a specific community and I personally have no issue with consenting participants indulging in any kink they choose. It definitely wouldn’t stop me supporting an ethical, body positive, British based company that makes good quality items in favour of fast fashion from many of the other suggested retailers on this thread.

JustCantBeBothered · 31/07/2024 14:30

Wirarpa shorts for me. Game changer!

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 31/07/2024 14:33

I used to have chub rub when I was a size 8. And that was 20 years ago, when a size 8 was smaller than a size 8 is now. I am not a size 8 (or even close) anymore but I still wear dresses all summer long, every day. I’m in the south east and it’s really hot. I use the anti chafing cream from Aldi when I need it.

Ponderingwindow · 31/07/2024 14:33

Cooling thigh shorts from Thigh Society. I pretty much only wear dresses in hot weather now.

Whistleblowing · 31/07/2024 14:33

SnapBang · 31/07/2024 12:56

I’ve never experienced thigh rub, it must be a shape thing and we’re all so different. Personally I find dresses to be the coolest, most comfortable thing to wear in the heat.

Same

SnapdragonToadflax · 31/07/2024 14:38

Chub rub shorts. I like the Big Bloomers ones, I have a pair of Snag but they feel very hot (and long!) in comparison. And yes, I even wear them on holiday with little dresses - I barely notice them. The Snag ones are relegated to the back of my drawer for emergencies.

I am overweight so it's doubtless mainly that, but my size 10, very slim friend gets sore thighs too. She has very narrow hips and a boyish figure, so I guess her thighs are close together.

OuterSpaceCadet · 31/07/2024 14:39

My thighs rubbed at size 8 and they rub at size 14. I have a build that is both curvy and muscley, however much extra fat I'm carrying.

Little dab of roll on antiperspirant deodorant where they meet, walk funny while you wait for it to dry, total game changer.

dippy567 · 31/07/2024 14:40

I wear M&S chub rub shorts, which are not too hot.

People saying its weight - obviously it may well be, but my thighs used to rub together when i was a size 8 (unfortunately a couple of sizes bigger now). If watching the Olympics, you'll notice that some of the female divers/swimmers who probably don't have an ounce of fat on them have thighs that touch, so probably also have this problem.

Better tights
They are exactly the same as snag but they don't have men dressed as women
I xant do a link but just type in 'better tights'

MummyLongLegsss · 31/07/2024 13:26

It is to do with weight.

Everyone's thighs 'meet' at the top but if they are rubbing when you walk and causing discomfort, it's because of weight.

DD is a size 6 and has chub rub. It's the way you're built.

tribalmango · 31/07/2024 14:44

The term chub rub needs to be changed. Just call it upper thigh rub. Chub implies...well chubbiness.

Georgie743 · 31/07/2024 14:45

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 31/07/2024 13:00

I use roll on deodorant liberally on my inner thighs. Works quite well. Aerosol doesn’t work as well.

Same. Roll-on deodorant or the stick 'cream' type deodorants. Works a treat! Cheap cotton cycling shorts if I was say on a city break and going to walk all day long.

What's the issue with Snag, out of interest?

Depends upon the individual. Some aren't comfortable with the marketing imagery and the link to a very NSFW clientéle base website, others think that they're overpriced due to the branding, others think that what they sell is actually pretty crap.

I prefer things from Better Tights on the whole in terms of quality, design and price.
