To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

Body Glide is a life saver for the chub rub.

Poggishairtufts · 31/07/2024 14:47

I use body glide or megababe thigh rescue, couldn't bear the thought of another layer of clothing in the form of shorts when it's hot.

Somepeoplearesnippy · 31/07/2024 14:49

Even when I was fat I didn't get chub rub. It's just down to the shape of your legs.

TheMightyWanderer · 31/07/2024 14:49

Snag tights do little shorts that sit nicely under dresses. M&S do similar, and a pair of cycling/gym shorts work just as well. Only thing that works for me and they’re cool enough to wear in the summer or on holiday. Having sweaty knickers beats the chafe anyway!

And to the arse wipes saying it’s your weight — some people are just built with thighs that touch. My thighs have been rubbing together since I was a pre-pubescent bean pole, all the way through my skinny ass ED teenage years and right up to being a gym rat, weightlifter and equestrian. I carry all my weight around my bum and thighs and no amount of weight loss will ever ever stop them from rubbing together (I’VE TRIED). I really wish people would stop saying this nonsense as if it’s as simple as just “losing a couple of pounds”. It’s not, because we are not all made the same!

Okay rant over. Good luck on your search!

Ryeman · 31/07/2024 14:51

Do you shave your thighs? I've never had this issue but I have quite hairy legs so maybe it adds a layer of protection 😅

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 31/07/2024 14:51

I have bowed knees (which is painful and annoying!) but the blessing of it appears to be........... no chub rub! Bonus.
What I do find really bothersome though and would LOVE to find a solution to is the way my reusable pad/panty liner always shifts backwards if Im wearing a skirt/dress/loose trousers. SO annoying. Im constantly footling around in my knickers pulling it forwards again............ which must look weird if Im wearing trousers/skirt but its almost impossible to do with dignity if Im wearing a dress!

MiniCooperLover · 31/07/2024 14:51

Also depends on the material of the dress. Polyester is going to stick and encourage chafing... cotton less so.

laveritable · 31/07/2024 14:51

Sudocrem at night!

BreatheAndFocus · 31/07/2024 14:52

I think it depends on your build and shape. Although I have quite muscular thighs, they sit quite separately so they don’t rub at all. I can’t not wear dresses in this weather. I’m roasting with anything on my legs and I love the feel of air around me under my dress. It’s cooling.

People have different shaped legs and differently placed distributions of fat and muscle no matter their weight, so I think rubbing or not rubbing depends on that.

If your thighs rub and chafe, that's telling you something.

Kindly, as you did ask, if you can't wear something like a dress, you need to lose weight.

I'm a size 10 and get chub rub! The only time I haven't had it was when I lost a lot of weight post birth and was 8st something, but that's not a weight I can maintain.

I just wear cheap asda cycling shorts.

Calliopespa · 31/07/2024 14:54

This thread has been an eye opener.

I had no idea there were so many bike pants, deodorised and talcumed thighs hitting the streets in summer!

I’m a shorts wearer at any temperature above about 23 so was blissfully unaware of the measures being taken by dress wearers. That’s what these threads are good for- as I guess you don’t often say “ I’m just going to slip to the ladies to Mitchum my thighs .”

Snag chub rub shorts have honestly changed my life. Summers used to be hideous before I discovered those a couple of years ago

Honestly, I was making myself I'll wearing trousers in the heat, now I wear whatever I fancy!

Meadowwild · 31/07/2024 14:56

Cotton jersey mid though shorts instead of - not as well as - underwear. Sandals. Primark's Essential Cycling shorts are good as they are not too long or clingy.

familyissues12345 · 31/07/2024 14:56

Snag have free delivery today

InSpainTheRain · 31/07/2024 14:57

I wear dresses.all the time and I'm overweight- I use Snag chub rub shorts. Don't make you sweaty and no rubbing.

WeLovePeaSoup · 31/07/2024 14:59

I used to have chub rub when I shaved my whole leg. But now I have it professionally waxed and don’t have that problem. I’m also a size 14 now so not a size 10 anymore.
Hope you find something what’s work for you.

RobinEllacotStrike · 31/07/2024 15:00

I'mk a 20/22 and wear dresses all summer thanks to chamois cream - get it from Amazon. I can also walk for miles in a dress wearing it. I go nowhere without it.

this one is thick, doesnt mark clothes, is scent free and lasts all day

No easy way to say this without being blunt, but it has to be your weight or shape.

This isn't an issue I've ever come across.

My thighs have always rubbed together. Of course it’s to do with shape but it’s nothing to do with weight. I’ve been a size 8-14 and they’ve always rubbed. Great that you’ve never experienced this though.

TheUnknownsMum · 31/07/2024 15:02

Seaglassandchampagne · 31/07/2024 13:00

Well of course it's her shape. Some people have thighs that touch. This basic fact of life has clearly eluded you to date (do you live on an island with no other inhabitants, perhaps?) but what the fuck does that have to do with the question she's asking?

What a snotty, unhelpful contribution to the thread.

OP has asked “how women wear dresses in this heat”. The answer is because most women don’t suffer from the issue OP describes.

XenoBitch · 31/07/2024 15:03

I wear cropped leggings.
I am obese now, but even as a slim teen I had chub rub. I remember hating the sound of jeans rubbing when I walked (never wear them now).

Zwicky · 31/07/2024 15:04

I’ve got the Amazon shorts linked upthread. I’ve always had this since being at school and I was only 6.5 stone when I left. I’ve got narrow hips. As an adult I’ve yo-yo’ed between 12.5 and 8.5 stone (including pregnancy so weight not exactly evenly distributed) and I’ve always had touching thighs. They touched when I had a 24 inch waist. My sister, in the other hand, who is about a stone heavier has legs like 2 pins and wafts around in dresses all the time.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 31/07/2024 15:04

Buy chamois cream for cyclists. I use it in the summer and have for years. Never had an issue.

This happens whether I am a size 6 or a size 12. My hips are fairly narrow and I have quite muscular legs. Just because it doesn’t happen to you, doesn’t mean than others are unusual.

TheRoseBear · 31/07/2024 15:08

Last year, I bought shorts in a jersey/cotton material from both Decathlon and Primark. You'd think they'd show under a skirt but usually they don't and wearing them makes a massive difference to my comfort. I find them far more comfortable than shapewear type shorts.

thefamous5 · 31/07/2024 15:09

I'm a size 22 and only ever wear skirts and dresses in the summer.

I never suffer with chub rub
