To wonder how women wear dresses in the heat

inthekiddle · 31/07/2024 12:49

Please can someone help! How on earth are most people wafting about in dresses in the heat?

I'm a U.K. 12 and if I wear dresses in the summer with normal pants my thighs rub together so badly, it's impossible to walk more than 5 minutes!

I have chub rub pants which are great and I put up with how sweaty they make me, but they are absolutely not suitable for a holiday where I'm wearing little beach dresses etc and it's very hot.

I've tried thigh gel in the past and found it makes no difference, it rubs off right away.

Is this just me? I'm slightly overweight but not a lot and find this happens even when I'm slimmer.

I wear floaty linen-mix jumpsuits, still wafty but zero chub rub.

Can't possibly have yer foof looking like it's been snorting cocaine!

I think I got shorts from Simply Be - they work, but I'm just not a big dress person I guess as I don't wear them much but it means I have the option.

And they contain the floof poof.

Zanatdy · 31/07/2024 16:25

Liquid talc helps

I agree.

I have wide hips and not particularly big thighs. My weight is in my boobs, bottom and tummy. I certainly couldn't walk around braless as I would get sore in the heat.

Same! I’m a UK 14 and my thighs are ok and I don’t get thigh rub really. My belly and boobs carry the weight and I could never go bra-less I’d be sore and slightly worried about knocking out the person next to me 😅 Also had big boobs as a size 10 though! Can’t change your basic shape as others have said.

AnxieTeapot · 31/07/2024 16:26

I buy cheap Primark leggings and cut them to the perfect length - works well!

user1497787065 · 31/07/2024 16:28

I spray my thighs with anti-perspirant.

The OP actually asked how women wore dresses because of chaffage.

I replied its not an issue for me. Why? Because the way the OP framed it, it sounds like she thinks ALL women have the problem which just isn't the case.

It had to be an issue with shape or size otherwise all women would have it.

I've never thought of it being a particular problem because of the historical nature of women wearing dresses either. Its just not something with widespread comments on that you need to learn to deal with. And yes we are bigger and we walk less than any other previous generation so yes, perhaps we should reflect on this - it need not necessarily be to do with weight but it could be to do with tone and the amount of time we spend at desk jobs or in the car compared with previous generations who would have spent considerably more time walking or just on their feet.

It was a blunt response but not one which was all about fat shaming. What's telling to me is the replies and the level of vitrol thats produced. It says more about others than it does about me...

The ASSUMPTION that it was a comment attacking rather than being honest about a problem is fascinating. If we aren't honest about issues then we can't solve them...

it sounds like she thinks ALL women have the problem which just isn't the case.

She literally asked "Is it just me?"

Anyway, even if she does think all women experience chub rub, why does that offend you? She obviously wouldn't think it was a fat thing if she thought ALL women experienced it. She would think it was a woman thing.

Seems clear from the answers anyway that some thin women get it and some bigger women don't.

No easy way to say this without being blunt, but it has to be your weight or shape.

This isn't an issue I've ever come across.

Most likely shape as fuck all to do with weight 🙄
I've always had chub rub, even when I was a slim 15 year old-because I have big thighs. Doesn't stop me wearing dresses though, actually prefer them to shorts as I find the rub makes the shorts shift uncomfortably between my legs iygwim.

socks1107 · 31/07/2024 16:32

I want chin rubs from snag or put deodorant there

YellowAsteroid · 31/07/2024 16:34

Dresses are by far the coolest thing to wear in the heat. I have the athletic thighs of a power lifter but I’ve never experienced “chub rub”. What about wearing mens boxer pants as underpants, or “boy shorts” style pants? But if you’re wearing anything other than cotton or linen, you’ll swelter whatever underwear you have

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 31/07/2024 16:40

I'm very porky of leg, and I wonder if any of the recommendations would roll up from the bottom, in the way that stockings roll down from the top. Do they stay put?

mondaytosunday · 31/07/2024 16:41

Wear chub rub shorts underneath. Many do this - not just overweight people. I saw a couple women wearing them yesterday as the wind caught their dresses (saves your modesty too). In fact my teenage DD, a svelte size 10, always wears cycling type shorts under her short skirts (again for modesty rather than thigh rub).

Proudbitch · 31/07/2024 16:44

I have to wear dresses as I find most shorts ride up and so I end up with thigh rub anyway! I live in dresses with chub rub shorts. Wouldn’t be able to live without the shorts underneath the dresses, best invention ever

OptimismvsRealism · 31/07/2024 12:53

I can't wear trousers comfortably at the best of times

I think some people have wider hips and so thighs don't meet in the middle

This is me too. I also find shorts really uncomfortable.

I’m currently a size 8/10 but used to be a size 14 and even then I didn’t get chub rub, I just don’t seem to be built that way.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 31/07/2024 16:47

Snag tights chug rub shorts are really good - they keep you significantly cooler than not wearing shorts.

I’m size 14 and find I do get chug rub now I’m this size.

Would really recommend them.

Theyre like tights fabric so you’d think would be hot but they’re not.

Not very practical advice on how to beat the heat this week.

Indeed!

I used to be a size 8, and I don’t store my fat at all on my thighs, but due to my body shape my thighs rub together like mad

My thighs always met even when I was young and size 8 too. But they didn’t run as such when that size.

I guess we are all built differently!

But you’re SAYING it isn’t about fat shaming yet in the same post harping on about people being sedentary etc.

And the answer is that Rubenesque ladies in previous generations wore cotton bloomers much like the one posted as a photo.

And so did the skinny ones, because, as we have now established, but you are determined not to acknowledge, this is an issue which affects plenty of women irrespective of weight.

Beautiful3 · 31/07/2024 15:47

Because as I've already explained upthread, I had bad thigh rub until I lost 3 stone. Losing weight actually works!!!

Not always. If I lost 3 stone I would be 5 stone, if I lost one stone I think I would be at my lowest healthy weight according to BMI, I would like to lose another half but I don't need to, it's just to try shed some of the jiggly bits.

I wouldn't be surprised if I still get it even if I lose half a stone or more and I would probably still get it even if my body fat % was in the low 20s.

Yes, it's to do with hip width. I'm almost underweight but don't have hips so my athletic thighs still touch. I don't think I was even in the queue when they handed out hip bones......

Auburngal · 31/07/2024 16:58

Can't remember the last time I wore a dress, let alone a skirt.

I have very muscular calves which I don't like being on show.

I really hate working in this heat. My uniform is polyester which makes me sweat more

Apologies if it's been mentioned already but Megababe Thigh Rescue is the best £12 I have ever spent! Tried liquid talc which helped for the short term but needed a lot of reapplying, whereas one swipe of this lasts me the whole day - total game changer. Smells nice too.
