To think he shouldn't have been paid in full while off long term. As its more like being self employed.
But mainly cos it was 475k upwards of our TV licence money!
Another example is when a famous radio presenter s decide to go off for an extended break to film another show or something. Surely they don't get normal pay when they have extra weeks off not on air!!

People now have access to the most extreme forms of porn and CSA within clicks if they chose to. And for free.

I really dont think so. Theres a plethora of LEGAL filth a few clicks away but thankfully and rightly, you cant go finding illegal stuff unless you move in HEs circles.

Moier · 31/07/2024 09:54

Well he will probably be going to jail now.

Damn I hope so 🤞

Over40Overdating · 02/08/2024 21:16

@Doubleender that’s my point - legal stuff is becoming too tame because of how commonplace it is. You can share x rated content on Twitter and it won’t be deleted. People are becoming desensitised to it.

Naivety about how hard it would be to find illegal content is part of the problem.

Very much doubt it, the guy that distributed the pictures only got a suspended sentence. Whilst just about everyone is disgusted with this situation and what he has done, in crime terms it's not that serious. Up thread someone said that there are 800 cases like this a month!

That's not true at all these days, I'm afraid. One of the problems of the internet is that old images are hard to eradicate - there are indecent materials that have been in circulation since initially being created decades ago. The "dark web" stuff is newly created (ie current abuse), not decades old abuse - it's the latter that keeps popping up on the "normal" internet.

This organisation works quite hard to issue takedown notices for indecent materials of children on the internet, they are kept grimly busy:

I can't believe the guy who distributed the pictures to HE got a suspended sentence 😮
WTAF

Well I can believe it.
It's the same in the jurisdiction I come from and live in.
Light sentencing for heinous crimes.
Those poor children.

Dylan Jones has said he has revised his opinions of Edwards since that lunch six years ago. There are plenty of weird, camp and contrary people in the world who lead exemplary lives.

My abiding memory of Edwards will always be the unscripted hours he spent
broadcasting the day of the Queen’s death. It was impeccable journalism at its finest, the tone was perfect for the occasion. That was as much his true self as his other behaviour. Human beings are complex and multi faceted. I feel desperately sorry for the victims here, for Edwards’ family and sad for that talented journalist who was betrayed by the baser side of himself.

Five or ten years ago he would likely have got around 12 months in prison for a first offence. So he would actually spend 6 months in prison and 6 months on licence.

But, since then, judges have been made aware of the lack of space in prisons and they are going much more for suspended sentences when it comes to "non-contact" offences.

We should avoid speculation as it will get the thread deleted.

He pleaded guilty and will be sentenced by a judge without any involvement from a jury, so we can speculate as much as we like on any likely sentence without worrying about contempt of court.

Do they? I bet you couldn’t do his job.

His job was to read words written by others from an autocue.

I despise the man, but most people couldn’t do the job he had as well. I also think most people understant that his job was not just to read words from an autocue. It’s a bit silly to believe that.

Your ignorance of broadcast journalism is profound. The words aren’t written by others. Sometimes there is no script. There isn’t on the great state occasions. Creating a coherent and engaging narrative is a skill very few people have. As a pp said it’s awful that so many milestones in recent history are now tainted.

This. Thank you. It’s absolutely ridiculous to say anything else. Everything is black or white to some people. He was excellent at his job.

crumblingschools · 03/08/2024 19:40

Newsreaders are all journalists aren’t they?

T1Dmama · 03/08/2024 19:44

When suspended it is with pay..

As for tv licensing money - Thisnis why so many including myself have started cancelling our TV licensing. I don’t watch anything that requires a licence,

ForYouManImADoomBoy · 03/08/2024 20:51

people like huw were about before the internet so please, explain to me how those people fell into it like its being implied poor old huw did? you dont. you dont just accidentally find it. its bullshit. those are real childrens lives being destroyed for sickos gratification. Somewhere out there, there are pictures like that of me, where i do not know, ill probably never know. you can sit there and try to analyse the human condition all you like but it does not EVER excuse the brutality of what people like him and his sicko partner in crime do to children and the life long pain they cause

BobnLen · 03/08/2024 20:54

I think some people are getting the job of a newsreader confused with a presenting job on This Morning.

Which most of us also would be absolutely crap at tbf.

Wetherspoons · 03/08/2024 21:10

I've been lurking at the DS Forums and Tattle equivalents of this thread for my sins, Tattle is rather robust/informative and takes no bullshit+ there's a lot of CSA victims on that thread giving their two pence but DS Forums is rather softer on Huw Edwards.

Looking at the comment from Jurassic Mark claiming that Huw Edwards doesn't have a sexual interest in children...

AIBU to believe that Huw Edwards does have a sexual interest in children?

Wetherspoons · 03/08/2024 21:15

Here's the post for example...
