To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

I was shocked at the library scene leading to a threesome.

The mocking of Christians in the last supper scene.

The feminization of males & the sheer number of transvestites on parade. And a child thrown in the midst of them.

This is a sporting event, why the need to have it so highly sexulaised? My dc were thankfully howling with laughter at parts "the smurf man" singing (complete with his painted bulge) had us all in stitches.

I feel there was a social conditioning agenda to the opening ceremony & it was completely inappropriate given that it is for family viewing. Sexulaised behaviour should not be displayed to children.

France has laws to prevent the influence of the catholic church on its institutions. Perhaps this is a nod to that - “we recognise religion but we don’t let it be taken too seriously” - a very good message.

Sorry @Happyhoppy15 this post was for @Frogpole (bad tagging form) @Frogpole in answer to your statement towards me: well if you've been to France and really experienced the culture the this opening ceremony really wouldn't have bothered you! Nothing about the ceremony was pornographic, you just have a problem with drag queens! Did you ever watch Mrs Doubtfire as a kid? It's based on a children's book and the film is aimed at kids! There is a man who dresses up as an old lady to get to see his kids! I bet that blew your mind....!

Scottish heather I have given up with them. I cannot actually believe people are saying it was pornographic. I really worry about how some kids are being raised to not value and accept difference. I wonder how many of these people would accept kindness and acceptance if they were slightly different?

Absolutely agree with this message just in general life. I believe in god and I am religious to some extent but look at how many absolute morons take religion to the far extreme, disowning their children because they fall in love with someone who isn’t of the same religion, children being rejected because they are gay, whole wars being started. So as a Christian I am proud that the French made it about inclusivity. It’s a shame they didn’t feel they could do that for all religions.

scottishheather86 · 28/07/2024 11:07

@Happyhoppy15 I still need to know where were the porno parts? 😂
I also need to know what would happen if a child saw a man with a beard in a dress? 😂 didn't The Greatest Showman have a bearded lady in it? Isn't that super loved by children!

And then with no irony, they bring in mocking the Catholic religion, which itself is insane, as the Catholic Church has high amounts of child SA within it!

Again, sorry for initially tagging you in my ranty post xxx

They can't do it for all religions or Paris would be on fire.

Should have dressed someone up as a pink Mohammed - sure that would have had the bbc falling over themselves to defend it too!!! I mean France is normally quite anti Islam - must be the new far left parties getting into power.

I mean on a fundamental level, nobody should take fairytales too seriously.

There were males dressed up in drag with a child among them, and they were gyrating around the child.

Difference is fine, but when you consider drag is womanface to many women, and at a time where men dressed as women are entering women and girls safe single sex spaces and facilities, as well as winning medals and taking sports scholarships away from girls, well, it doesn't take much thought and critical thinking to understand why people are reacting to drag queens. The push back by some women is reaching fever pitch. If it was any other difference, ie one not portrayed by an oppressor class, I don't think you'd see this reaction.

I'm really surprised that people are surprised about this, actually. Considering how volatile the mood is between womens rights activists and trans activists. Putting drag queens on gyrating around a child was never going to end well. What were they thinking? Obviously they didn't think at all, or were trying to deliberately stir the pot and deliberately upset feminists at a time there is so much conflict. Which in itself is irresponsible. Pouring petrol on the fire.

Edited

using the word gyrating implies it was sexually focused or there was sexual intentions. It was neither. It was people having fun. I danced when I was a child and I would have loved that opportunity. There have been men dressing in drag for many years. You and everyone else on here are really just upsetting them selves by doing 2+2 and getting 6.

im not getting in to women’s rights etc as I am a strong believer in those. Yes I know there are some trans women who have bad intentions but these are v small numbers. There are many v nice people who identify as trans and are just like us.

i said a while ago, I’m not replying and I am going to stop replying as sadly there is nothing more I can say.

the sun is shining so I’m off out to have a lovely day . Wishing you all a lovely day

I did think the director of the ceremony was being deliberately provocative to ensure it was noticed, now it doesn't really bother me as no kids and I'm liberal minded but why the Dionysus character needed to be bulging, why the drag artists when it doesn't even make women's clothes look good due to lack of hips, why the menage a trois ... to annoy 50% of the world? And what with the man in sparkly pants on ballet points? Only women wear points (why not a sequence with some beautiful classical ballet?)

Mostly it was so drawn out, the drag bit was obviously to fill the gap as the got people off the boats ready for the flag etc and the mechanical horse was great but way too long ...

The odd thing with me is I don't have an issue with drag etc but in context and this was weird because for fashion, where was the "normal" men's wear!

Male ballet dancers do sometimes perform on pointe, they do in a Midsummer Night's Dream. There is also an all-male ballet company called Les Ballets Trocadero de Monte Carlo and they wear pointe shoes.

The majority of parents don't want to raise their kids in environments which are sexulaised, the twerking Olympic transvestites are not the type of diversity I personally want to exposed to.

So much handwringing about drag queens, when there is a convicted child rapist on the Netherlands volleyball team.

Well, Heaven forbid the French try to showcase the best of their astonishing cultural contributions to humanity if some people haven't heard of François Truffaut, one of the most revered film directors of the past century. In fact let's just hand the whole thing over to the USA and set it in Disneyland. Everyone's heard of the Mouse.

His last film was in the 80's and that was rubbish. Only 1 film of his was notable. That's why most haven't heard of him 🙄

3CustardCreams · 28/07/2024 20:35

did I touch a nerve? Im surprised you ever let your kids go outside!
just wondering where you get your facts from that majority of parents are unhappy with the olympics opening session or think like you because I would def say you are the minority!

Where were all the women dressed up moonlighting as men?!
Why was it only male transvestites?
I didn't see one female attempting to be male in the opening ceremony only males making a mockery of females!

I’m currently wearing cargo pants, a t-shirt & no makeup jewelry or nail polish and just finished mowing the lawn. Am I mocking men? Am I corrupting the youth on the street by parading around in “man-face”?

Or is it possible that trying to police what people wear and do based on their genitals and chromosomes is just another facet of sex-based discrimination?

Creepingivy · 28/07/2024 22:22

I'm in "boyfriend" jeans & a hoodie at the moment but I am 100% female & feminine@!!
Can you point me to where all the female transvestites moonlighting as men were front & centre at the Olympics or was the roles only advertised for males to dress up as women.. Trying to mock & antagonise females?

No one is moonlighting as anything and there were people in all sorts of attire. Plenty of us have no interest in further dividing every facet of life into exclusionary gender roles because we know this has and always will be used to restrict women in the end.

If you’re not willing to fight with us to dismantle sex-based barriers in the world then at least give your head a wobble and stop desperately searching for things to be offended by.

What @AGoingConcern was trying to point out (if I’m not mistaken) is that when the drag artists wore “female” clothes (in quotes because of course there is really no such thing as male or female clothing, as both are just cultural norms that shift all the time), that was unacceptable to you, as it seemed to be mocking women, and yet women wear “male” clothing, as you yourself are, that is fine?

Why the difference? Why are men in drag deemed to be mocking women? Are women’s clothes inherently shameful? Why are we defining ourselves based around clothing choices? If you’re cool with dictating what men can wear, what are and aren’t women allowed to wear?

Creepingivy · 28/07/2024 22:58

Have a zoom in!! Why are there men pretending to be women?
Why is there a child in the middle or them? This will never be my normal!
I'm so happy at the backlash this farce recieved, funding pulled, the Olympic committee has issued an apology & the whole thing was removed from the official youtube channel.
They deserved to have the heaven piss rain down on their parade literally. One doesn't mock the lord & get away with it, he works in mysterious ways.
This has backfired spectacularly 🤣🤣🤣

To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

Clothes and makeup don’t make people women - no one is pretending to be a woman just because they wear drag for a dance show.

How small and twisted you’ve tried to make God if you believe humans joyfully wearing clothes while celebrating breaking social barriers mocks Him. This scene was a tiny fraction of a very long opening ceremonies and yet you’re obsessing over it two days later. This is a you-problem.

Are they “pretending to be women”? No, they’re performing drag, which has various roots and origins as theatre all over the world. Some people have said “dressed resembling a girl” started in the theatre when women weren’t allowed on stage, and men played female parts as well.

I’m not sure why the child was onstage, she seemed to be a talented dancer, and I didn’t see any inappropriate moves. Perhaps they were nodding to drag story time. If you are worried about the welfare of children, why are you not in uproar about the Dutch volleyball player who is competing who is a convicted child rapist?

Why all this outrage aimed at drag queens when there is a literal child rapist being allowed to compete? And a prime example of why men, cisgender men, are still the biggest threat to children in terms of sexual abuse.
