To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

I was shocked at the library scene leading to a threesome.

The mocking of Christians in the last supper scene.

The feminization of males & the sheer number of transvestites on parade. And a child thrown in the midst of them.

This is a sporting event, why the need to have it so highly sexulaised? My dc were thankfully howling with laughter at parts "the smurf man" singing (complete with his painted bulge) had us all in stitches.

I feel there was a social conditioning agenda to the opening ceremony & it was completely inappropriate given that it is for family viewing. Sexulaised behaviour should not be displayed to children.

Yeah, I'm French and I'm at it like a rat up a drainpipe 😎

Pop over to the Mumsnet so-called feminism board. They'll love you there

"so-called feminism board"? Admitting you are a misogynist are you?

I used the word transvestite in a conversation with my teen daughter the other day ( not meaning to be offensive, just referencing a man wearing women's clothing ). She called me homophonic for using the term. I honestly had no idea the term was no longer in use or could cause offence and definitely did not mean any.

It isn't remotely homophobic. Someone's been lying to your daughter. I'd pull her up on that.

Thank you for sharing this. Unfortunately the French don’t give a fuck about animal welfare - try visiting there as a vegan and you soon realise their priorities.

Actually at these Olympics 60% of the food is plant based vegan which makes it all the more surprising that the foie gras is being served at all. I believe it is an American catering firm doing this.

The more people who get in contact with the organisers and challenge them the better. As far as I know the foie gras is only being served in the VIP areas and only as an ingredient and not as an item in its own right. There is no reason for them to have it.

There is no place for fois gras. Thanks for letting us know how to take action

You shouldn't be using phrases like "woke agenda" OP. Woke means empathetic and aware of injustice in the world. You also should not be using outdated offensive terms like "transvestite". Yes perhaps a little over sexualised, as was Eurovision imo but the terms you use are extremely offensive and you need to read up and understand why.

Woke absolutely doesn't mean that and it's actually racist to claim it is, as it happens. It was a word about activism and awareness of racism in the American black community. If you're so empathetic and aware of injustice in the world maybe be less of a racist cultural appropriator. Because your claim is the thing that's really offensive! Educate yourself and do better!!!

Nothing about the word "transvestite" is outdated or offensive.

You were already told about "woke". Learn the terms before you lecture others.

@alittleprivacy

You're the one who accused other people of being homophobic while being truly disgustingly homophobic yourself. So you really don't get to mock anyone's intelligence level as yours was the most ridiculous comment on the thread!

Excuse?

MessinaBloom · 28/07/2024 02:25

@Frogpole

OP seems to be quite annoyed about what she saw as an ingrained agenda in the Opening Ceremony. This implies she saw traces of it throughout, so she could have simply turned it off. I know I do that if a programme irritates me enough.

So let's have this right.. What you're saying is that a "hypothetical person" can make a tv program to be broadcast to every country on Earth that serves as an intro to a global event which several billion people will watch live, and just show whatever they like in it? You'll stand and fight for "person's" right to show live, uncensored, unregulated acts of zoophilia, coprophilia, torture, human vivisection, rang gape, chilled prawnography, shit that Serbian... did when they encountered humans for the first time at Srebrenica, "forced" this that and the other... You wholeheartedly support a "hypothetical person's right" to put that in front of families and children all across the world and justify it with a simple "pshh, aint my problem bruv, you let em watch it, that's on you" quip.
That's correct, isn't it?

It's been like this since network television - and cinema - was invented. If we don't like something, we don't watch it. No-one is forcing you. I'm not fighting for anyone's right to make that material, and I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. This was France's Opening Ceremony, and yes, they could show whatever they liked in it. You didn't like it or understand it, and that's okay.

Eh educate yourself @Eggseggslegs . This is the definition from the Oxford dictionary. I am not ignorant enough to speculate on the transvestites pronouns so refrained from referring to them as transgender as they may simply be men who wear women's clothing. A man who wears women's clothes is called a transvestite, always has & always will be. Nothing to do with gender or sexuality.

“You didn't like it or understand it, and that's okay.”

One day we can only hope to be as open minded and cultured as you I guess 🤣

scottishheather86 · 28/07/2024 07:45

I feel those that are screaming and stamping their feet about the opening ceremony are either right-wing folk from the US or apparent 'feminists' who seem to have a problem with drag queens! The irony that these two groups merge into one is insane!

Different countries have different cultures! Don't like it don't watch it! Each country doesn't have to play to your individual agenda!

scottishheather86 · 28/07/2024 07:50

@Happyhoppy15 well if you've been to France and really experienced the culture the this opening ceremony really wouldn't have bothered you! Nothing about the ceremony was pornographic, you just have a problem with drag queens! Did you ever watch Mrs Doubtfire as a kid? It's based on a children's book and the film is aimed at kids! There is a man who dresses up as an old lady to get to see his kids! I bet that blew your mind....!

scottishheather86 · 28/07/2024 07:55

Sorry @Happyhoppy15 this post was for @Frogpole (bad tagging form) @Frogpole in answer to your statement towards me: well if you've been to France and really experienced the culture the this opening ceremony really wouldn't have bothered you! Beefcurtains79 · 28/07/2024 08:09

Mrs Doubtfire? A man who lies his way into his ex’s home, and spies on her getting changed?

Are you even old enough to watch that film? 😂

Oh ffs! A man dressing up as an old lady to see his kids, and a man dressing up as an over-sexualised extreme version of a woman to mock women are TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THINGS! Especially with the INTENT there. Next you're going to invoke Dame Edna Everage, right? Fuck sake! Give us strength! No. Just give over. Right now. 🙄

scottishheather86 · 28/07/2024 09:05

@SoreAndTired1 can you explain the intent? Were the French trying to sexualise every child in the world with the 'evil' drag queen agenda? Sorry if I missed that point in the opening ceremony! Is Celine Dion the ring leader in this master plan? I also think they were trying to push the agenda of chopping women's heads off too!

scottishheather86 · 28/07/2024 09:07

@Beefcurtains79 yes! Very dark film...., which was actually based on a kid's book!!! if you look for it you can find the darkness in everything and you've proved my point! Don't even get me started on The Goonies!!! Whole lot of irresponsible parenting going on there!

VeryHappyBunny · 28/07/2024 09:38

I admit to not watching the whole of the opening ceremony but from the posts on here it seems that it is split between the Francophiles who understand all the references to French culture and the rest of us who don't. Due to its nature it is unlikely any child will be scarred for life by any of it. The younger ones wont understand it, some will just find it really boring and older kids probably see much worse everyday on the internet.

When planning an event on this scale it is difficult to get a balance between celebrating the host country and making it relevant for the rest of the world. Due to its length and complexity it is inevitable that not everyone would enjoy or understand all of it. Like the Games there is something for everyone. Not everyone enjoys every sport.

With the eyes of the World on this it is unlikely that if anything truly bad was depicted it will go unpunished.

Ginmonkeyagain · 28/07/2024 09:44

If I don't like something I tend not to watch it or turn it off.

I find Love Island offensive on many levels - It's like a modern day Bethlem. But I accept people enjoy it so the solution is I don't watch it.

MossGrowsFat · 28/07/2024 09:49

Apparently the opening ceremony has been removed from the official YouTube account

It’s not the same thing though is it? You know the content of Love Island in advance, no one knew the content of this before watching.

Many people appear to have been offended about the perceived anti-Christian vibe.
