Friend had a go at me over a can of Diet Coke

Last Saturday friend had a few people around, she lives in the country so taxi/uber is impossible so all those drinking stayed over.

In the morning there was still some stuff out from the night before, including cans of Diet Coke, I opened one and had a sip, put it down not really thinking and said my goodbyes, my friend said “aren’t you taking that with you?” I responded “no I’m good thanks” and she retorted “what I’m absolute waste” - awkward silence, I grabbed the can, mumbled sorry and left.

Shes now messaged me to apologised. I’m just so annoyed that she spoke to me like a child.

Well you opened a can of drink you had not intention of actually drinking because you wanted “a sip”. It is a waste isn’t it?

BarbedButterfly · 26/07/2024 14:45

Totally agree with her

Shoxfordian · 26/07/2024 14:46

Yabu and casual about your friend's house and stuff

prescribingmum · 26/07/2024 14:47

Behave like a child then expect to be spoken to as though you are one.
My 7 year old knows better than to be so wasteful

Procrastinates · 26/07/2024 14:13

I wouldn't have been as harsh as your friend but she's absolutely correct. One sip is ridiculously wasteful and to just leave the can there for her to clean up later seems pretty rude.

Yep.

You were thoughtless and wasteful. Maybe you need to be spoken to more often about your behaviour!

paddlinglikecrazy · 26/07/2024 14:47

It was really wasteful, just leaving her with a coke you’d taken a sip out of ? She spoke to you like a child because it’s the sort of thing a kid would do.

Flumpie59 · 26/07/2024 14:47

She did apologize so don't let it bother you any more! It was only a can of coke!

WiddlinDiddlin · 26/07/2024 14:48

You behaved like a child... a pretty rude, ignorant child at that.

Taking a new can, opening it, having a sip and then just dumping it on the table and going to leave...

Rude as fuck. I'd have been a lot sharper!

ByCupidStunt · 26/07/2024 14:48

Why did you do that? Genuine question

LittleGreenDragons · 26/07/2024 14:49

Posting for the deletion message as there is no way this isn't a reverse (which isn't allowed btw).

Why did you apologise to your thoughtless friend? And more to the point, did she use a coaster? 😬

ItsTheGAGGGGGGGG · 26/07/2024 14:49

Don’t you have common manners? Why did you put the can back down expecting someone else to clean up after you? That’s actually very rude

KatiesMumWoof · 26/07/2024 14:53

Normalwahatisnormal · 26/07/2024 14:15

She's dead right, what a waste

@Normalwahatisnormal

why would she want to when the OP has already slobbered over the can AND not many people want warm Diet Coke first thing in the morning.

@coldayscientist

why not just have some water? You were wasteful & rude.

Funnywonder · 26/07/2024 14:54

I wouldn't have expressed it quite like your friend did, but I agree with her. And I wouldn't have apologised. Terrible waste. And very lazy to just leave it lying at her arse.

DottieMoon · 26/07/2024 14:54

Eart · 26/07/2024 14:13

Sorry but I agree with her.

Why would you open a can to take one sip then leave it? That's so rude and wasteful!

Cans aren't cheap either.

Agree

Sounds like something a child would do she spoke to you correctly!

Funnywonder · 26/07/2024 14:55

Sorry *your arse, not hers. But then this reads like a reverse.

OkPedro · 26/07/2024 14:56

SummerSummeySun · 26/07/2024 14:16

Ew when someone else has had their mouth around the can @Wishimaywishimight

Oh no not someone else's mouth 😧

PurpleHiker · 26/07/2024 14:57

You were in the wrong, but your friend values your friendship so she apologised as it's not worth falling out over. After you begrudgingly took the can, did you finish it, or chuck it?

maddiemookins16mum · 26/07/2024 15:00

Were you both still hanging from the night before?

PyongyangKipperbang · 26/07/2024 15:00

Only wanting a bit is fine but maybe asking if anyone wanted to share one would have been better than just wasting it.

I am afraid your friend is right and you are feeling salty that she put you in your place in front of other people. Good for her. Perhaps she spoke to you like a child because you were behaving like one, its the sort of thing I would expect a young thoughtless teenager to do not a grown adult.

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 26/07/2024 15:00

Come that’s something a child would do.

You are in her home. You open a drink. Sip it. Put it down and go to leave?

So not only wasting it but just leaving it in the side for her to pour done the sink and bin?

and you are upset that she snapped at you? You were really rude.

Though I suspect this is quite true is it. A reverse?

Charlottescobweb · 26/07/2024 15:00

This is why I buy bottles of drink instead of cans. Op your friend thought you was a CF opening a can that someone else could have drank. You mumbled sorry do you normally act like a child?

Beautiful3 · 26/07/2024 15:02

I'd be annoyed too. Opening a can for a sip?!

BobbyBiscuits · 26/07/2024 15:02

Neither were totally wrong. But I wouldn't open a coke and take one sip and just leave it on the side. As no-one else can drink it so it's just going to be binned.
If I had my fill I'd pour it away and put the can in recycling. But I wouldn't snap at someone over it.

She apologised, you were both probably hung over and a bit fragile at that moment.

My solution, get full sugar coke instead. It's much tastier so less likely to be wasted. After a night on the sauce you need real sugar! 😂

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/07/2024 15:03

Wishimaywishimight · 26/07/2024 14:15

How is it a waste? Surely she could have poured the remainder into a glass?

After someone else had drunk from the can? In any case it might have gone flat before anyone wanted it. It was a pointless waste.

Screamingabdabz · 26/07/2024 15:03

You were prepared to waste a whole can of Coke just for one sip? And leave it for her to clear up? Yep that is dick behaviour. Good for her for calling it out. I’ll be surprised if you’re invited back.
