The Weed. The Constant Weed!

So I live in a densely populated area and ffs. There are so many things that grind my gears. But one of the worst is that everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - smokes muthafucking weed. It stinks! I hate it! It’s all I can smell from dawn until dusk and worse in summer when the windows have to be open!

It’s not even like I get a passive chill out from the smell, ffs. I loathe it.

I'm not your average MN curtain-twitcher but I've reported someone for smoking it because it directly affected me and I can tell you the police couldn't give a toss. It doesnt matter if it's Class A, B or Z they dont have the resources and aren't interested.

Not the point of your post I know but I've noticed people smell worse in general now. Is there a soap shortage at the moment?

I've noticed that too. More obvious BO and dirty unwashed clothes and hair smells. Hate to say it but I notice it on my adult DC and have to gently tell them to bathe or wash hair or clothes sometimes. They bathed every night of their lives when they lived at home.

Seriously?!

You think that’s racism?

What if I said I’m mixed race, I love all races etc, but I also 100% agree with this description as I’ve seen similar myself on my suburban Surrey high st?

Don’t confuse race or skin colour with the aggressive importation of a culture and casual disregard for the law (due to a total lack of enforcement).

Anyone who says things like 'I love all races' can't be taken seriously. No one loves everyone, most people go about their day without loving everyone.

I missed the comment that was deleted but weed is smoked by every race/culture so making it about race is unnecessary.

80smonster · 23/07/2024 16:03

One of the reasons I like Brighton so much is it absolutely hums of the stuff. London, too. I don’t think you can say one smoke/fume is worse than another: bonfires, car exhaust fumes, cigarette fumes etc. are all to some degree fairly disgusting to someone not making the smell.

@Pocketfullofdogtreats oh I LOVE it when some pompous ass corrects someone's SPAG then makes mistakes themselves. Honestly, it appeals to me on so many levels. So, thank you for your intervention. Shall we start on their punctuation now?

I'm not interested in that. I just wanted to make the point you picked up on.

Yes this! People also look grubbier, I blame covid and lockdown making people lazier. But also this idea that washing powders, shower gels, deodorants etc are bad for you.

When I was younger i could look a scruff (part of being into Grunge back in the 90s) but I was always clean and didn't smell.

Move??

Where to? It's everywhere. Unless you can stretch to a detached house in an acre of grounds it will make no difference. I visited a friend in her new house last week. A small cul de sac of very privately owned properties in a nice, respectable market town. As I was walking back to my car I got a strong whiff of weed coming from one of the neighbours open windows.

It's virtually impossible to walk through my small city centre without walking through a cloud of weed smoke at least once each time I go there, even in the middle of the day. People just don't care. They make no attempt to hide it.

Is it forbidden with Muslims? A bit like alcohol is, for example. that'd make some areas more tolerable.

I believe it’s haram. But it is still used, nonetheless.

CheerfulBunny · 23/07/2024 18:37

I'm getting increasingly pissed off smelling it as cars and vans go past either when I'm walking or driving. I was walking the dog one lunchtime recently and a very clearly sign written window replacement van came careering down the road and nearly mounted the pavement near me then screeched off, leaving a tell tale stink of weed behind. It was so clearly marked that to me, that is so careless it's actually contemptuous. Annoyingly I didn't get the reg or the company name or I'd have been reporting the driver to the police then letting the employer know what I'd done. It can't go on can it? How can drinking be widely condemned but we turn a blind eye to this? How many driving offences involve cannabis use? I'm guessing it's a lot. I saw a programme on bbc2 about police forensic teams in Wales investigating terrible RTAs, most of them fatalities, and most of them involved either drink or drugs.
Next time I won't hesitate to report it and will be interested to see what kind of response I get from the police.

I think most Muslims view it as an intoxicant so it's haram.

Different sects may have different views to this though

OhmygodDont · 23/07/2024 18:56

Looking in the local area I would said plenty of men who are Muslim smoke weed and are also just as involved within the dealing of it. By the teenagers on the e-scooters zooming along to do their dodgy handshakes.

1dayatatime · 23/07/2024 22:35

There is a really strong linkage between heavy cannabis use and mental illness especially amongst the young:

Thepeopleversuswork · 23/07/2024 22:43

I actually don’t mind the smell too much and I am fairly relaxed about people partaking but it is shockingly ubiquitous in London. People don’t make any attempt to disguise it these days.

pinacollateral · 23/07/2024 22:54

User135644 · 23/07/2024 08:09

I know the police are beyond useless but we need a government to actually make a decision. Is it legal or illegal? If it's illegal then force the police into enforcing the law. If it's legal then at least get it away from organised crime and bring some tax money into the treasury. At the moment it's 'don't ask don't tell' territory.

Completely agree.

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 23/07/2024 23:23

I'm a teacher and some of my five year olds smell so badly of it that I struggle to sit near them first in the morning as it makes me want to be sick. Their school bags and homework stink of it. Pick up time the air at the gate is heavy with the smell of weed.

UpThereForThinkingDownThereForDancing · 23/07/2024 23:26

@IamMummyhearmeROAR 😔 that is so sad and awful. 😡

Technically it's forbidden yes, but given that plenty of people involved in drug trafficking and drug dealing gangs are Muslim then it's a technicality that's clearly passed a few of them by.

I used to know a young Afghan man who came to the UK as a child asylum seeker. He used to plaster his facebook page with memes saying 'Allah is Mighty' and 'No-one but Allah can judge me' while running a nice little drugs racket which he was eventually sent to prison for.

It really clings to clothes, doesn't it? I'd be making an SS report because I'd worry that the parents must be smoking it habitually n front of them, which can't be healthy. Poor kids.

Yes people do seem to be especially stinky these days and you wonder sometimes if they ever wash. There are a couple of people in my office who pong. It's horrible.

DreamyCyanFinch · 01/08/2024 09:02

Could you carry something else you like the smell of that's a strong smell but something you like to sniff when you get a wiff of the weed.I also dislike the smell, I can also smell it everywhere I live in a semi rural setting.Sadly lots of the young people smoke it in nice wooded areas round where I live.Yuck

bombastix · 01/08/2024 09:08

They should just get on and legalise it, tax it, and then at least we would get a bit of much needed income for public services. The situation is ridiculous, and this system we have now is the worst of all worlds. Gangs dealing it, widespread use, enforcement all but impossible.

DoraSpenlow · 01/08/2024 09:19

I think I have led a very sheltered life (rural Devon) as I'm not sure I would even know what weed smells like! Thankfully. I had a pothead cousin but he never smoked it around extended family.
