The Weed. The Constant Weed!

So I live in a densely populated area and ffs. There are so many things that grind my gears. But one of the worst is that everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - smokes muthafucking weed. It stinks! I hate it! It’s all I can smell from dawn until dusk and worse in summer when the windows have to be open!

It’s not even like I get a passive chill out from the smell, ffs. I loathe it.

It's everywhere here too and I hate it. I almost miss cigarette smoke which this combined with sickly sweet vape smells seems to have replaced. It's horrible.

Flowers4me · 23/07/2024 08:57

YANBU, there's a lot of it going on in my neighbourhood - the stink is awful and pervades everything. You can't walk down the road without smelling it. But its not just the smell, its the exploitation of people and the mental health impacts that bother me.

FalderalderaldoSittingintheWater · 23/07/2024 08:47

Oh yes, let's run with the 'stoner' tropes
Clearly you are an authority on the topic

You keep pitching in to display your superiority complex @FalderalderaldoSittingintheWater but you're so vague about the many benefits of exposing others to weed, driving, working whilst stoned, raising children whilst stoned, the crimes you directly support, the skunk induced psychosis, etc.
Clearly you are an authority on the topic, do enlighten us.

UrbanFan · 23/07/2024 08:58

It's everywhere now and people just stink and don't care that they stink up the place for everyone. Truly disgusting pong and much worse than fag smoke. I was down the beach the other day and had a lovely spot and some pot smoking cretins came and parked their bodies right next to me. Really disgusting so I had to relocate and try to find a spot far from them. Vile pong.

AsTreesWalking · 23/07/2024 09:02

It's wafting in through my windows now...

TheBizzies · 23/07/2024 09:04

I was in a beach last week in Spain and oh it was rancid! Cigarette smoke is so much better and I can't actually believe I just said that 🙄

Not the point of your post I know but I've noticed people smell worse in general now. Is there a soap shortage at the moment?

Andthereitis · 23/07/2024 09:04

It's bad for mental health.
Horrible stuff.

JamSandle · 23/07/2024 09:05

I hate the smell too. It's so much worse in America. It literally seems to be everywhere there. I'm not actually against weed. But the smell is overwhelming and so gross.

CruCru · 23/07/2024 09:06

People have a weird attitude to cannabis. They act as though it’s been decriminalised (probably because it has been in much of the US) but here it’s class B. Getting caught with a lot of cannabis is a big deal.

The kids on scooters who supply it are taking terrible risks and are not being paid anything like enough for them. They are unlikely to ever get “proper” jobs because they’ve spent too long doing illegal work.

The people who run cannabis farms really are the scum of the earth.

PlutarchHeavensbee · 23/07/2024 06:15

Move??

Can you suggest some areas that are guaranteed not to have it?

I was brought up in a fairly rough area and never ever smelt it (1970s), now I live in a nice area and I smell it all the time. Weed has become much stronger over the years and more openly smoked. The smell is really strong and nauseating.

The nail bars are connected to people trafficking and barbers to money laundering and drugs.

They are in every high Street. Weed everywhere but so are other drugs

My highestreet is literally barbers, nail bars, hairdressers and fast food places. A lot only take cash too (barbers and food places).

If people really wanted to stop them, they shouldn't ever use the barber shops and nail bars that take cash only. The businesses are tied up in people trafficking, drug running, money laundering.

It would help if people wouldn't use they businesses but they do, thereby supporting the crime. Children, young people are smuggled in and work behind the scenes in prostitution, many of these businesses are mere fronts.

Muthafuckin
That meliferous English cuss..
Oh sorry, no. It's a revolting Americanism
I hope more people smoke weed as time goes by. Weed smokers are a lot more laid back than those that just smell it then moan on a public forum

You don’t sound very laid back. Maybe you need to start smoking it. If you already do then you’re not a very good advert for it’s laid back vibe.

nzeire · 23/07/2024 09:19

😧
I have a wee spliff at night on my balcony

aftwr reading this thread I will now stop, I had no idea it was so bad!

Priekebejen · 23/07/2024 09:19

OP I really feel for you, it’s disgusting.

I read about drug -induced psychosis and it’s terrifying. I think if more people knew about it there’d be fewer people taking drugs. The police just don’t care about it.

purplevipersgrass · 23/07/2024 09:19

I agree, OP. I picked up a neighbour's son and his girlfriend, 19-20 years old, from the station after Glastonbury the other day. A favour for a nice neighbour. The young people got in the back of the car and I instantly opened all the windows. The smell was incredibly intense and unbearable. I can't imagine what it would have been like for anyone forced to sit beside them on a train for a couple of hours.

I think the ill-informed think it's all nothing much. Behind the scenes there's a lot of bigger issues, county lines, child trafficking, addition, mental health issues, paranoia is a big one.

A friend of mine suffered this. She started weed in her early teens and as an adult in her 30s she is in a very bad way. I dont know how common it is but I think any use of the drug when the brain is still developing is especially dangerous. Who knows what was in what she was using as well.

Alchol causes a lot of harm to society. Partner violence, violence to children, sport violence, fights outside pubs, poverty, debt, etc. The list is endless
What a stupid statement, it only harms the individual

I made it clear that abuse of alcohol is harmful. No disagreement on that point. But sensible use of alcohol is not harmful . I drink 2 or 3 glasses of wine a week, rarely more than one an evening. I have several non drinking days each week. That is sensible use of alcohol which harms no one.

What you have listed is abuse of alcohol.

My point is that there is no reasonable, socially responsible use of weed. None.

I agree OP. I hate the stuff. The smell makes me gag. And it's so often smoked around our way by earnest vegan types who care about the planet. I want to say to them - you know that was probably grown by some child tricked into modern slavery, stuck without a passport in some shithole of a deserted house or industrial unit, having crappy garage food posted through the door once a day by his gangers. But keep pretending it's no different from wine.

This. An acquaintance of mine was moaning because her son got mixed up with a gang in his home town because he owed them drug money, and she moaned and whined about these awful drug gangs - yet she smokes weed daily. You're part of the fucking problem ffs! But no, you keep telling yourself it's "better" than alcohol.

Peacelily001 · 23/07/2024 09:30

I smoked cannabis in my late teens/early 20s in the early ‘90s. It was resin though, and grass was rare and seen as a treat - usually home grown.
I stopped because it was making me feel anxious all the time.
I went from smoking a lot to nothing with zero side effects or cravings, but a friend’s partner who’d smoked skunk heavily (much more recently) suffered awful withdrawal symptoms when he stopped.
Night terrors, sweats, anxiety, it took about 2 weeks for him to start feeling normal.
Skunk (as well as stinking to high heavens) is so much stronger and is far more dangerous IMO.

I think there can be. I took a weed gummy once for period pain and it was incredible. But I took it alone, at home and obviously there's no smell.

SunshineonLeaves · 23/07/2024 09:30

It's not only in 'rough' areas, I live in a town that's thought to be naice/aspirational/posh/whatever, I own my home and my neighbour does too but they smoke it like a chimney. It seems to be everywhere and I agree the government either need to decriminalise it or toughen up on enforcing the fact that currently it is illegal.

It's easy to say the odd spliff in your own home isn't hurting anyone but the rise in county lines gangs and related violence says that isn't necessarily true not to mention the affect smoking it can have on mental health.

Throwwaway · 23/07/2024 09:33

I could have written this myself! 100% agree
