The Weed. The Constant Weed!

So I live in a densely populated area and ffs. There are so many things that grind my gears. But one of the worst is that everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - smokes muthafucking weed. It stinks! I hate it! It’s all I can smell from dawn until dusk and worse in summer when the windows have to be open!

It’s not even like I get a passive chill out from the smell, ffs. I loathe it.

Have a little think. Any weed smoking impacts on neighbours as the stink is immediate and pervasive.

Please explain how someone having a glass of wine on their patio affects their neighbours?

So charmingly patronising.
You have a little think too, sweethesrt

Total agree with a PP who said that a lot of the time walking down the street a car goes by then boom weed. Could you imagine seeing a car go buy with the driver clearly and obviously say drinking and it being so “normal”.

It stinks I’d rather walk behind a normal smoker at this point it’s ridiculous that’s it’s even illegal if the police never do anything about it either. Legalise it tax it, soon it will be harder to buy fags then weed. Tbh probably already is, those underage smokers can get weed much easier. A friend not anymore told me their snow comes in a Uber faster than a pizza from dominoes 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Prohibition is such a stupid policy.

eggplant16 · 23/07/2024 08:21

What's good about it? genuine question.

Does it blur the edges, make life more acceptable.

Cattyisbatty · 23/07/2024 08:22

My neighbour continually smokes it, it’s rank to smell it when you wake up as it comes through windows etc.
We did speak to him about it when he moved in and apparently it’s for ‘medicinal’ purposes 🤔 I really don’t think so!
it is ubiquitous now and rare to go anywhere and not get a waft of it.

This is bollocks - Chicago and New York absolutely reek of the most horrific skunk these days.

And the response to cannabis is not “but alcohol is soooo much worse, weed for everyone!!” - it’s better regulation of any drugs if they cause so many societal issues.

That's exactly what I just said. Big cities like Chicago and NYC have a lot of economically disadvantaged people, so you will smell skunky fake cannabis there. You rarely smell it in uniformly well-off areas.

MeouwCat · 23/07/2024 08:23

It is more or less decriminalised in the UK ... I think the smell is not so bad, it's the emotions that the smell invokes, as in "there goes the neighbourhood".

CranfordScones · 23/07/2024 08:23

I remember people smoking in pubs and other places years ago with no consideration for others. I felt no sympathy for them when it was banned. But now we have this.

I've seen the mental health effects of overusing the strong stuff, and been affected by the consequences. Not to mention the chain of exploitation and misery that leads back down the supply chain. Just so that others can indulge their liberal, edgy, right-on fantasies.

OneTC · 23/07/2024 08:24

ChildlessCatLady · 23/07/2024 08:15

The cannabis one smells on the street in England (maybe the whole UK? I rarely smell it in Scotland and don't have experience in Wales or NI) smells completely different and overwhelmingly worse than the cannabis in most of continental Europe. This is a North American reference - sorry to the xenophobe who objected to Americanisms above - but it absolutely stinks like the spray from a startled or frightened skunk. In the US and Canada, in the states/provinces where it's legal, it's rare to smell cannabis or faux cannabis that smells like skunk - although you still do in places where people can't afford to buy regulated weed.

Just nonsense

......

OhmygodDont · 23/07/2024 08:26

If it’s for medical reasons or to chill. Why can’t they have it as edibles. You can make your own brownies and such. Why does it have to be stinky?

User135644 · 23/07/2024 08:26

FalderalderaldoSittingintheWater · 23/07/2024 08:01

Great stuff
There's also an alcohol industry, a tobacco industry and a gun industry. All these things, while legal, are far more lethal than a bit of weed
And people do not fight ehen stoned the same way they do when pissed

Just never get into a conversation with a stoner about 5G, flat earth or Bill Gates or anything else for that matter.

lolly792 · 23/07/2024 08:29

It's fucking rank.
And no I don't mind my next door neighbour having a glass of wine in their garden, it doesn't impact me whatsoever, but I'd be pissed off if they were toking away and stinking out my garden. Amazing that a few people don't geddit

Or overt drug taking in rich areas/middle class suburbia is just a lot less pronounced than in the inner city.

Superhansrantowindsor · 23/07/2024 08:32

Op - my sympathies. It absolutely stinks! Can you call 101 and report it as anti social behaviour. I went through something similar. Ended up calling 101 every day. The problem was eventually resolved. I hate people who smoke weed. They need to educate themselves on county lines and the exploitation and abuse of children. They may not think they are part of the problem but they very much are.

The nail bars are connected to people trafficking and barbers to money laundering and drugs.

They are in every high Street. Weed everywhere but so are other drugs

I second this we had a neighbour who smoked it dawn until dusk, did a few other anti social behaviours, plus neglected children and we just constantly reported it, eventually they got an ASBO and it settled down.

Long term use really damages people's mental health and all the ones I know become erratic and aggressive.

Apparently the neighbour got bad again when we moved out the Dad was particularly nasty and when the new owners went to talk to them about their behaviour he tried to fight the new owner who promptly flattened the him.

I hate the stuff.

Not patronising - just bloody obvious. Abuse of alcohol causes serious harm to the individual and to wider society. Sensible use of it does not.

Any use of weed causes harm.

Oh yes, let's run with the 'stoner' tropes
Clearly you are an authority on the topic

MaturingCheeseball · 23/07/2024 08:48

I agree it stinks - a nasty smell that I’m sure was not as bad as in the past. It’s bad in the streets but try going in a park! So much for green spaces for all.

Some friends were assaulted all night and all day by the smell of cannabis coming from the upstairs flat. Neither the police nor the council were the slightest bit interested. I suppose “smell” is difficult to define as opposed to noise nuisance. People could potentially complain about cooking smells or strong aftershave.

sadabouti · 23/07/2024 08:51

Antisocial behaviour and low aspiration is hard to tackle, so yes; if you want to change your life you have to move OP. When people are from rural areas with poverty, this reality is just accepted - and people leave and are often very careful about where they land. I think city mice find it harder than country mice to accept.

Either that or become a community organiser talking to people about the issues with recreational drug use, its effects on others, and impacts on people around the globe who are caught up in the violence of its production and distribution.

A casual smoke with friends will involve supporting physical and sexual violence somewhere. It's not ethical for this reason along. It's also very carcinogenic so clearly bad for health.

I took the easy option of moving to a better community.

Sleepiboi · 23/07/2024 08:51

I'm sat in my living room now and the guy 2 doors down smokes at his front door. It's stinks.
It's 9am ffs.

Pussycat22 · 23/07/2024 08:51

Moonshiners, nice bit of morning truth!!! They can literally smoke themselves to death for all I care, it's the stink that revolts me.

Alchol causes a lot of harm to society. Partner violence, violence to children, sport violence, fights outside pubs, poverty, debt, etc. The list is endless
What a stupid statement, it only harms the individual

blackrabbitwhiterabbit · 23/07/2024 08:54

My classroom stinks of it, half the classes I teach smoke it and we can't do Jack about it...not allowed to search bags. The stench!
