The Weed. The Constant Weed!

So I live in a densely populated area and ffs. There are so many things that grind my gears. But one of the worst is that everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - smokes muthafucking weed. It stinks! I hate it! It’s all I can smell from dawn until dusk and worse in summer when the windows have to be open!

It’s not even like I get a passive chill out from the smell, ffs. I loathe it.

OP posts:
xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 23/07/2024 07:41

One of the houses near me smoke it from dawn until night. It's like they have one the moment they get up, then can't go without all day.

Ex smoker of the stuff here so I have no problem with it but maybe that's why I'm so sensitive to it (and find it so annoying).

Its a horrible sickly smell. There are lots of horrible smells. Is it the smell that offends of what it is and what its doing?
A family member got caught up in this stuff and it isn't a good situation.

Thing is a lot of bad smells have purpose or a remedy.

Say the slurry or house manure. All good fertilisers.

However a neighbour who never cleans their yard of dog poo you can report to environmental health and it will eventually get sorted.

Weed has no overall benefit in the same sense as fertiliser but also nothing is done about the antisocial side of the smell again forgetting that it’s illegal in the first place.

Move? Yeah, cos that’s just like SO easy. Even better, why don’t I move to the country? Because that’s even easier.

I hope more people smoke weed as time goes by. Weed smokers are a lot more laid back than those that just smell it then moan on a public forum

AsTreesWalking · 23/07/2024 07:46

Ugh such a disgusting smell. It drifts across from the park next to us. I had never smelled it before we lived here! (My sons thought that hilarious)

SmokeBlackCat · 23/07/2024 07:46

JMSA · 23/07/2024 07:03

It seems to be massively on the rise. I've had 13 year olds coming into school stinking of the stuff Sad
When I was young, it had the reputation of being used by old hippies. That is no longer the case.

And it’s much stronger now than the days it was smoked by old hippies. Can be associated with psychosis.

i work for a fire & rescue service and cannabis factories often catch fire (dodgy electrics) and the people don’t want to call 999 (they’re running a cannabis factory) and try to put it out with sometimes disastrous results.

Laid back because they are drugged up. Horrible stuff. And the industry that facilitiates it.

shockeditellyou · 23/07/2024 07:53

It’s fucking rank, and it’s horrific how normalised it has become. It almost makes me wish for tobacco smoke again, which somehow wasn’t so cloying and choking.

i don’t understand the push for legalisation of something we know is so harmful. And what other laws can I get away with so flagrantly breaking?

socks1107 · 23/07/2024 07:56

It's in rural areas too. Our neighbour used to smoke it daily ( they've moved thank goodness) and there is a house nearby where it lingers in the air as you pass by. It's revolting

MrsStottlemeyer · 23/07/2024 08:00

Until the mental health issues begin.

SunshineonLeaves · 23/07/2024 08:00

I hate it, my neighbour smokes it and the smell seeps into my house. My partner lives in a flat above a smoker and gets the same - he can’t sleep with the windows open or use his balcony.

I’m sick of the selfishness and the police doing nothing about something which is actually illegal.

Great stuff
There's also an alcohol industry, a tobacco industry and a gun industry. All these things, while legal, are far more lethal than a bit of weed
And people do not fight ehen stoned the same way they do when pissed

User135644 · 23/07/2024 08:02

Filthy, disgusting habbit.

If drugs are illegal, why isn't it policed? Worst of both worlds. Organised crime make money off drugs like cannabis but it's effectively legalised. Either tax and regulate it or actually enforce the law.

Irony is tobacco is legalised and is practically dying out year on year. Yet every fucker is stinking the streets and residential areas out with skunk instead.

DustyLee123 · 23/07/2024 08:02

I work in primary schools, and it’s sad when the kids come in smelling of it.

OneTC · 23/07/2024 08:04

I like the smell

MouseofCommons · 23/07/2024 08:09

Yanbu. My neighbour does it and it wafts into my house. It's awful.

User135644 · 23/07/2024 08:09

pinacollateral · 23/07/2024 06:19

I agree OP it's disgusting but there's not much you can do about it. The police don't care. It's a complete joke that it's meant to be illegal.

I know the police are beyond useless but we need a government to actually make a decision. Is it legal or illegal? If it's illegal then force the police into enforcing the law. If it's legal then at least get it away from organised crime and bring some tax money into the treasury. At the moment it's 'don't ask don't tell' territory.

Maray1967 · 23/07/2024 08:11

Meadowwild · 23/07/2024 07:18

I agree OP. I hate the stuff. The smell makes me gag. And it's so often smoked around our way by earnest vegan types who care about the planet. I want to say to them - you know that was probably grown by some child tricked into modern slavery, stuck without a passport in some shithole of a deserted house or industrial unit, having crappy garage food posted through the door once a day by his gangers. But keep pretending it's no different from wine.

Well said. I’ve had responses to my negative views on it trying to claim I’m a hypocrite because I drink wine. Some people’s ignorance and naivety is astounding.

WonderingWanda · 23/07/2024 08:12

I life rurally and when the local teenagers walk past the back of my garden along the lane I get wafts of it too so moving isn't the solution.

It worries me how many people drive and smoke weed, or who might go to work and operate machinery under the influence. It seems to have become so acceptable these days.

eggplant16 · 23/07/2024 08:13

Oh yeah, the vegan types. Nod nod wink wink, natural herbs blah blah.

HangingOver · 23/07/2024 08:13

I like the smell

Me too, but only outside.

YouJustDoYou · 23/07/2024 08:13

I live in a seaside town and it's smoked everywhere, coupled with zero police presence. My little ones asking "what's that's weird smell?" coupled with holding clothes over their noses is just depressing.

Have a little think. Any weed smoking impacts on neighbours as the stink is immediate and pervasive.

Please explain how someone having a glass of wine on their patio affects their neighbours?

ChildlessCatLady · 23/07/2024 08:15

The cannabis one smells on the street in England (maybe the whole UK? I rarely smell it in Scotland and don't have experience in Wales or NI) smells completely different and overwhelmingly worse than the cannabis in most of continental Europe. This is a North American reference - sorry to the xenophobe who objected to Americanisms above - but it absolutely stinks like the spray from a startled or frightened skunk. In the US and Canada, in the states/provinces where it's legal, it's rare to smell cannabis or faux cannabis that smells like skunk - although you still do in places where people can't afford to buy regulated weed.

Tightfishedtwat · 23/07/2024 08:16

I agree weed here all the time as well. It's when they smoke it outside the school I think can't you just give it a rest for 30 mins.

E don't get it in our street thank god and I feel for those whose neighbours smoke it so you cannot get away from it

This is bollocks - Chicago and New York absolutely reek of the most horrific skunk these days.

And the response to cannabis is not “but alcohol is soooo much worse, weed for everyone!!” - it’s better regulation of any drugs if they cause so many societal issues.
