To worry for Kamala Harris - woman, half black, half Asian, married to a Jewish man

I really really hope her and her family have the strongest mental resilience for the racism, misogyny and anti-semitism which will come towards her and them, just for the crime of running for president.

Yes she’s been a bit of a wallflower and we haven’t seen much of her whilst VP but maybe that will change now she’s out on her own. She’s had a successful career as a lawyer and seems nice.

Personally I’m going to avoid listening/watching American politics in the run up to the election as I think I’d be too anxious. Many people seem to treat politics like a football rivalry these days. But if she were to win, it would be so inspiring for so many girls around the world.

Trump’s coalition also includes those “Jews will not replace us” folk.

It’s a broad church of arseholes.

Oh and let’s not forget about the Jewish space lasers.

Many, very likely most, Trump supporters are racist and islamaphobes, who’ll happily vote Trump just so that Israel can kill as many Palestinians / muslims as possible.
Have you seen how happy they have been about the genocide happening.

Granted Biden and Kamala both support this genocide as well.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 23/07/2024 15:57

She won't get in, as the USA won't vote for a woman president, not yet anyway. Hillary couldn't get voted in, and they haven't moved that much further on.

Honestly, they'll vote Trump in again. If they had a man running against Trump, he would have a much harder time getting reelected

Bucees · 23/07/2024 16:04

LifeExperience · 22/07/2024 23:06

There are good reasons not to support Harris that don't involve racism or misogyny. Trump's already up 11 points over her. That translates into a popular vote win and an electoral college landslide.

The American people know Kamala. They don't like her because she's incompetent, not because she's a woman of color, and it's an insult that the Democrats allowed her to get as far as she has.

More incompetant than a convicted criminal? or man with dementia?

Hillary is an incredibly divisive figure though.

That's strange. They're Middle Eastern or Arabic everywhere else. It would be like calling a Swedish person an African, that's how much sense calling Middle Easterners Asian makes. What would you call actual Asians - ie Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean etc, then?

Jesus fucking Christ

Yup. She was heavily smeared over Benghazi and the "her emails" line of attack, coupled with the associated FBI investigation (reopened just a week or so ahead of the election) turned a lot of Americans off her.

Personally, I think she lacked a bit in charisma too.

Donald Trump is both of those things

CloudywMeatballs · 23/07/2024 16:23

@SoreAndTired1 Have you looked at a map recently? India is most definitely in Asia.

@xxSideshowAuntSallyxx 3 million more people voted for Hillary than for Trump in 2016. He won because of the electoral college system. But it's hard to see how you can claim that Americans won't vote for a woman president.

SoreAndTired1 · 23/07/2024 16:30

Sausagenbacon · 23/07/2024 13:30

. Well not just America, but world-wide, although America seems particularly virently misogynist.
What an ignorant post.
Have you been to the USA? Or anywhere outside of Europe?

Are you honestly telling me that you don't believe America is misogynist? Really?

Would you like me to list the ways American men can be misogynistic? Maybe just watch JD Vance's speeches, for a start. Then there's Project 25. Then there is their view on abortion. There there is... etc.

SoreAndTired1 · 23/07/2024 16:33

Sausagenbacon · 23/07/2024 13:31

And it's virulently. HTH

Yes, I am aware of that. I had two words in my mind and what I wrote wasn't what I had in my mind. I blame in on typing faster than my brain.

CurlewKate · 23/07/2024 17:01

Imagine an America which would allow Harris to be President and Buttigieg to be vice president.....💭

Sausagenbacon · 23/07/2024 17:07

Are you honestly telling me that you don't believe America is misogynist? Really?
there's misogyny everywhere. I've travelled round the States, with no problems. Which is more than I can say about some other places I've been to, like India.

And perhaps you're more aware of misogyny because a) we get a lot of reporting on the USA and b) we speak the same language.

Hillary is an incredibly divisive figure though.
It doesn't help when you call your opponents deplorables.

India is part of Asia. It’s an Asian country. As are Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are in no way ‘Middle Eastern’. And they definitely aren’t ‘Arabic’.

@SoreAndTired1 In an ethnically diverse country of 333 million, I imagine you’d find every imaginable opinion so yes, misogynists certainly exist in the US and yes, their views on abortion, for example, have sadly affected thousands in recent years.

But the US is a collection of states and each state tends to have its own “personality.” I live in a very Blue area and no, misogyny isn’t a major problem here. We have other problems, but that’s not a major one.

To compare to the UK, I wouldn’t be keen to live in Nigel Farage’s constituency, but that doesn’t mean that his views are widely shared throughout the country, does it?

CurlewKate · 23/07/2024 18:54

"To compare to the UK, I wouldn’t be keen to live in Nigel Farage’s constituency, but that doesn’t mean that his views are widely shared throughout the country, does it?"

Well, his views got a worrying number of votes.....

CustardCreams2 · 23/07/2024 19:13

This has nothing to do with racism and misogyny- it comes down to COMPETENCE alone. Kamala Harris is completely out of her depth, totally incompetent and quite frankly a bit thick. She gives women in power a bad name.

Many many examples

  1. When at press conference with polish president- a lengthy question directed to her on USA policy re infrastructure plans for Ukrainian refugees - it’s obvious she hasn’t even understood the question, then looks to polish president to answer for her. Then she starts laughing maniacally and eventually squeaks out “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Sorry wtf?
  2. She said the USA has a strong and enduring relationship with North Korea. LOL. She clearly had no knowledge on this.
  3. Has achieved nothing of more from her time in office. NOTHING. After being border czar for years has not even bothered to visit the border.
  4. Talks In meaningless “word salads” that make no sense.
  5. She was a terrible prosecutor- putting thousands of people in prison for smoking weed.
  6. Innumerable other examples

The most comprehensive answer I have ever seen her give is on the topic of White House M&M’s. She is in no way fit to be POTUS - solely on the basis of incompetence. Nothing to do with race or gender.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 23/07/2024 19:35

MN is a bit of an old fogey site.
KH is doing just fine on Tiktok.

Her biggest advantage is, she is not going to be an octogenarian president.
The people who were not going to vote, are now going to vote.
Young people like a politician with a sense of humour.
Beyonce + Taylor Swift like her enough to throw a concert.

We no longer live in a boomer dominated world.

@CurlewKate I know, but my point stands that huge numbers of people in the UK don’t agree with him.

CustardCreams2 · 23/07/2024 19:51

I’m not a boomer. I’m 35.
KH’s laughing is not a sense of humour. It’s disrespectful and inappropriate. Especially on the topic of Ukraine.

You would think with the number of advisors and speech writers she has access to - she should be more informed. But she consistently comes across as having not a clue about anything.

Taylor Swift should be not endorsing such a terrible female role model to young girls.

WildLemur · 23/07/2024 19:52

It's nice to see betting odds start to shift. Implied probability of a Trump win has dipped to the high 50%s.

@NerdWhoEatsMedlar Biden is even older than the Boomer generation!

Do you really think that most MN’ers are over 60 though? All the baby/toddler threads must be medical miracles.

Northernparent68 · 22/07/2024 12:04

Yes YABU.

she hasn’t been the victim of racism or misogyny so far, so there’s no reason to suppose that will change.

her record as a DA and politician has been criticized, including by women and that is legitimate and not prejudice.

Have you seen the obscene memes some MAGA men are creating?

I think that's extremely unfair spin on the laughter at the conference with President Duda.

Duda and Harris briefly laughed when a reporter simultaneously put different questions to each of them, and there was an awkward moment when they weren't sure who should speak first, which caused them both to laugh.

Most of the "outrage" generated in response to that was due to people sharing cropped clips.
