To worry for Kamala Harris - woman, half black, half Asian, married to a Jewish man

I really really hope her and her family have the strongest mental resilience for the racism, misogyny and anti-semitism which will come towards her and them, just for the crime of running for president.

Yes she’s been a bit of a wallflower and we haven’t seen much of her whilst VP but maybe that will change now she’s out on her own. She’s had a successful career as a lawyer and seems nice.

Personally I’m going to avoid listening/watching American politics in the run up to the election as I think I’d be too anxious. Many people seem to treat politics like a football rivalry these days. But if she were to win, it would be so inspiring for so many girls around the world.

@Bucees

I am stating the background issues undecided voters have with her candidacy. Personally I don’t care who she had a personal relationship with. If he promoted her above others because of their relationship that is for him to be accountable not her.

Personally, I find her too left wing for the American system. The country is so divided and we have never needed someone in the center more than now. The division is not good and I don’t think she is the right person to bring people together. I’d vote for her over Trump every single day of the week though but it would be a vote against Trump when I’d prefer to vote for the democrats.

Appalonia · 22/07/2024 13:06

Have you actually listened to any of her speeches? Woman is practically incoherent at times. I think she would be a disaster!

Oh well, watching her and Trump debate each other will be entertaining.

OurFlagMeansAfternoonTea · 22/07/2024 12:59

Before Biden picked Harris he announced that he would only consider a "woman of colour" for VP. He basically made it clear that he would be making a diversity hire so that he could show how progressive he was. Even if she were a great potential president (she isn't) he totally undermined her by making that statement. Now they are stuck with this completely unsuitable candidate.

It was awful that he said this. I would have understood if she had declined the appointment publicly but understand why she didn’t. It completely undermines her accomplishments which is so unfair.

Heard Nigel Farage on LBC this morning saying he didn't think people would vote for a "black African woman"

He's such a fucking revolting specimen, worse than his NF name sakes

Edited

He might be disgusting but I fear he's right.

America wouldn't vote a woman in, and a woman of colour? Get out of town. They'd rather have a convicted rapist.

So you have repeated something you have heard / been told - where is the proof?

Lavenderfields121 · 22/07/2024 14:22

This site seems to be inundated with people who abuse “anxiety” to make everything about themselves. It’s shameful.

ExtraOnions · 22/07/2024 14:27

She will 100% be inundated by Racism, and Misogyny. The candidate on the other side is a “pussy grabbing” misogynist.. and look how maybe people support him.

The political system in the U.S is lost .. it is filled with corrupt, self-serving, narcissists. I put it in the same bracket at Russia & China.

Blackcats7 · 22/07/2024 14:32

Slightly a side issue but you would think Trump would support abortions as he would likely have a lot more women with offspring from his constant shagging around to pay off.

AreYouShittingMe · 22/07/2024 14:33

@CutthroatDruTheViolent I think the issue is that NF describes Harris as African rather than American (thus proving how inherently racism he is).

I don't think they will ei
either not because I'm racist but because they have never voted for a female president even when it was a choice between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump,
And it took them long enough to vote in a male black president
Some parts of America cam be very racist and anti women.

As depressing as that assessment is, I think he has a point.

Reproductive rights are a key ballot issue this time. Roe vs Wade has divided the country. Trump has a string of sexual abuse allegations and now a adjudication against him, showing he doesn't respect women. Plus there's more lurking in the Epstein files to come out. It would be politically savvy of her to focus on reaching the female vote by making the connection.

Who helped get her in position and endorsed her? The Clintons. Who do we know to have been to Epstein Island tens of times? She ain't going to go down the Epstein list route

Yes, and people get the politicians they deserve

Locutus2000 · 22/07/2024 15:20

That this sort of misogynist shite is being published in the Telegraph feels like a portent of things to come.

"Yet she has proved to be bewilderingly awful: rudderless, inchoate, and incredibly unlikeable. She was polling at 3 per cent before dropping out of the presidential race in 2020, before Biden took her as his running mate. “Fake”, “awkward”, “embarrassing”, even “downright evil” are some of the key terms that recur in opinion across the political spectrum about her."

Kamala Harris the giggling fool will doom America

In chasing Joe Biden out, the Democratic party has foisted an even worse candidate on voters

She won't go down that route but the media will. They will make the connection between his attitude towards woman and his opponent.

Plus the Clinton's aren't running for office. Trump is.

More papers on Epstein to be released soon and Trump's all over them. Plus E.J Carroll and Robbie Kaplan are supporting more victims to come forward.

Yes YABU.

she hasn’t been the victim of racism or misogyny so far, so there’s no reason to suppose that will change.

her record as a DA and politician has been criticized, including by women and that is legitimate and not prejudice.

Have you heard Trump speak? It's just a matter of time.

luckylavender · 22/07/2024 15:24

@KatiesMumWoof - he's not right. She's not African & he's a racist

mathanxiety · 22/07/2024 15:35

susiedaisy1912 · 22/07/2024 12:17

And yet when Obama ran for office the African-American population of America came out in their millions to vote for him.

Eh?

The African American vote has always swung overwhelmingly Democratic.

If you're trying to suggest racism, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Clinton won the popular vote.

Her strategy was flawed in a fundamental way, however, resulting in the Electoral College victory for Trump.

The US is not a direct democracy. Clinton's team forgot this important fact.

@mathanxiety. Think you've misunderstood my comment. I was replying to another poster who said they didn't think the American people would vote for a black candidate.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 22/07/2024 15:59

8 years ago when the nominations were announced i said trump would win. He was the only white Christian male. America does have a problem with racism and sexism. Straight after Obama they were not going to elect anyone but Trump. I don't know Kamala Harris enough to comment but the Midwest and Southern rednecks I do know won't be happy, one I know for definite will hate having to do it but he'll vote trump, he's a neanderthal who thinks women should be in the kitchen though.
