Why do people hate on my fur coat

I’ve a fur coat that I inherited from my Grandmother. It’s a full length mink coat & I absolutely love it. I even wear it in summer.
As we’ve been having terrible weather I’ve been using it, and for the first time people are hating on me for wearing fur. They throw insults that I’m an animal killer, cruel, support the fur industry- on and on it goes.
I think it’s just jealousy. Others would love to own such a statement piece.
Are they all wrong and I’m right, I have a right to wear what I want, I didn’t kill anything & the coat comes from another era. Actually I’m saving it from landfill.

I think fur is dreadful (and YES I have been vegan for years), but I think it’s good for vintage pieces to be worn. Those poor lives shouldn’t now go to waste.

You didn't kill anything but the animals still died so that you could wear it. However being it's from another era essentially your granny killed the mink. Hope that helps. 😉

I would judge anyone for wearing real fur. Don't kid yourself I'm jealous, never in a million years as I hate real fur on people. Jog off with it.

I think if you object to fur but eat meat you are a bit of a hypocrite.

By carrying on wearing fur, the wearer is endorsing fur and all the barbaric practices that go along with it.

They aren’t jealous, you can definitely set your mind at rest there! Fur is unfashionable and pretty ugly - bulky, rarely looks clean, just looks weird these days to be honest. Technically ‘worth a fortune’ but actually - it’s not, few people would want it.

I agree that it’s hypocritical for someone to have a really strong reaction to fur though if they eat meat/wear leather blah. However, fur IS different - leather is a food byproduct, whereas what people really hate about fur is its history of incredibly cruel practices, all for a fashion item, not food.

But they’re not jealous. I guarantee that very few people will be looking at you wearing a full length mink coat and be thinking ‘she looks great’ 🤣

I love the way you put this. A different way of looking at it and something some fur wearers perhaps don’t, or won’t, consider!

If anyone says anything tell them it's vintage fur and if you weren't wearing it it would be in landfill which is clearly not better.

I wouldn't buy new fur but vintage fur I have no problem with

My DD was given a vintage suede coat with a fur trim. It is so beautiful and from a different time when fur was seen as acceptable. The coat exists and it would be a horrible shame to see such a lovely coat go to landfill. She didn't buy it, she didn't perpetuate the fur trade by accepting and wearing it. She has worn it and if anyone was to challenge her I think she would probably stand her ground and explain her reasons.

Look, I’m vegan (for over 8 years) and I’m going to share my opinion. I see no harm in using second hand leather, fur etc. it’ll get thrown away which I see an animal dying for nothing - so the more use it gets out of and gets passed down for generations, I see that as a good thing.

In terms of buying new, I don’t agree with it (personally). I understand why people choose to eat meat as we need food to live and if people eat animals - sure that’s their choice. But when people are buying clothing items that an animal has died for to produce that piece, I don’t think that’s ok as that’s for vanity and not necessity. There are so many alternate faux options in todays age that are pretty realistic that don’t contribute to animal cruelty, so I wish going forward animals wouldn’t die for clothing, furniture etc.

But please wear your coat, no matter what you wear people have opinions regardless.

I remember my great aunts fox fur wrap. It was the most hideous thing. It was just a fox draped around her shoulders, eyeballs, wizened limbs and everything. She looked ridiculous but swanned around thinking she was lady of the manor.

She used to say everyone was jealous. But they actually crossed the road to avoid her and her hideous dead animal.

If it wasn't outing I'd post a picture of it, it put me off fur for life.
