I don't shower every day. Am I gross? I shower every other evening and on those days I have a proper wash including hair shampoo conditioner etc plus any shaving that needs to be done

Mornings I wash face teeth and put deo on. I think it's ok as I don't smell but wondered am I gross

Also on another entirely different subject, do some ppl never go to parents eve? And if u miss a few does it get mentioned

Oh god not this again.

Anyone you've heard say 'my dermatologist said never use soap down there'... that's a person who had reason to see a dermatologist in the first place. The advice was for them, not everyone else.

The last time there was a thread about this on MN I saw an expert on a TV programme who said there we should not use soap on our genitals (and I'm not saying that I don't btw). I assume the TV presenters hadn't asked for her advice, so yes it was for "everyone". Not using soap is not the same as not cleaning.

If you Google the question you will see lots of the same advice. Strange how you think you know better Confused

Loads of google search results saying it's fine to use gentle soap on the 'exterior', too.

I'm very, very relieved that none of my sexual partners have been 'water only' people.

Well then you use gentle soap - but there is no need to judge others who don't and act as though you are an expert on a subject, when clearly you aren't.

SamW98 · 19/07/2024 23:54

I would feel really grubby if I didn’t bath or shower every day.

Though I actually haven’t today because I’ve WFH and just can’t be arsed this evening. But that’s a very rare occurrence. Usually when I wfh I shower in my lunch break

Im not a sweaty person but I really like that freshly showered feeling of being clean.

Did you... watch them wash down there? Because there's not really any other way to know unless it was absolutely filthy...

I shower every day. I feel manky if I don’t. Especially since I became menopausal. Wash hair every day too unless I’m WFH. It’s short and I get up like Oor Wullie every morning. I’ve tried silk pillowcases etc. but hair - alway a state in the morning regardless. do wish I could stretch hair wash out as it strips colour out.

My colleague always described the “pits and bits” facecloth wash as a “man wash” which always made me laugh.

Parents’ night, always went- I think you’d be judged if you didn’t.

nothanx · 20/07/2024 07:43

Gentle soap? My gran taught me to use Dettol and never done me any harm.

Anonym00se · 19/07/2024 10:44

I know they always say that, but I put the plug in the bath once when I was having a shower and by the time I was finished (5-10 minutes) there was much more water in there than if I’d had a bath.

5-10 minutes? Why do you need to spend that long in the shower?

Desertislandparadise · 20/07/2024 08:06

I wash everyday and have started having cold showers. It apparently brings numerous health benefits and in any case it's cheaper. It's possible to shower properly in only a couple of minutes (wet yourself down 1min, put on soap 1 min, rinse 1 min). Though sometimes there nothing better than a nice long luxurious hot shower.

lilacnapkin · 20/07/2024 08:12

I shower daily- I dont understand why people are saying it would break them financially- you can do it in literally 2 minutes (using warm water) and have a good wash. I suspect thats far more economical than constantly washing flannels in the machine too.

With regards to smell- yes, you can smell people if they dont wash daily. There is no shame in that, we all sweat even during the night, we would all have an odour if we did not wash. It's just a fact, not a moral judgement on anyone. But to say others cannot smell it if you dont wash is just not true. You can.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 20/07/2024 08:29

@lilacnapkin wow. U don’t know very much about high water prices. People choosing between light or heat. What an ignorant comment. Not everyone has just one person showering. In a house of five that isn’t just two mins. I’m pleased u know nothing of that life. But it isn’t true for everyone.

So, you are saying washing flannels is cheap then- 5 people using different flannels and then washing them is using just as much hot water....

I don’t usually, we have a cubicle in our en-suite and I’m usually in and out. But sometimes I go in the main bathroom if I need to shave (it’s easier to rest my foot on the edge of the bath as I’m disabled and can’t bend down far) and have a proper pamper shower.

Beezknees · 20/07/2024 08:49

I shower daily but I am prone to sweating so I need to really.

Just depends if you smell or not.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 20/07/2024 09:51

And now the competitive "quick shower" types are arriving

If I shower in 2 minutes I don't feel like I've washed at all. I've had to on occasion when I need to get to work after doing something sweaty/dirty and I also feel like it was very superficial.

And once again, no, you don't always smell after one day. You assume that if you smell someone its because they haven't showered but that might have been no shower for a week, it might have been they did shower that day but have excessively sweat all day, it might be their clothes... and the person next to you later on who you don't think stinks may not have showered that day either

Is this a serious question? It can't be.
You can't smell or taste soap on people?

My mother had a very upper-class friend, older than her, who went to a small private school in the 1940s, and she said the headmistress told them 'Girls, every day you must wash under your arms and between your legs'. The standard issue, it seemed, was Lifebuoy, which does have quite a strong aroma.

twentysevendresses · 20/07/2024 10:50

I have a shower before attending parents evening ☺️ Anything more is just excessive 🤣

SeeSeeRider · 20/07/2024 11:21

When I am near some people, and I detect their mixed BO, scented laundry, deo, and cheap scent, I remember what my grandma used to say - 'set a smell to cover a stink'.

Not particularly. No...

I was out and about today completing errands and I got so many horrible whiffs walking past people, I think some don't realise they smell so musty... like old Pillows or something. I wouldn't point it out but imo you can tell when someone hasn't bathed/showered.

This!!! On public transport it's particularly noticeable and grim.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 20/07/2024 20:09

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 20/07/2024 12:24

Perhaps I'm an outlier then.

Or you are.

If someone's recently come out of the shower and I've got my face in their groin (to put it bluntly) I can most definitely notice the soap. Which I'm grateful for, the alternative sounds grim.

Because some of us like to? I might only shower every 2nd day, but I have a decent shower while I'm in there, especially at this time of year (winter) when it's a way of getting warm. 😅

spikeandbuffy · 20/07/2024 22:09

I think you need 5-10 mins in the shower to wash everything well! It takes me a while cleaning my ears, belly button, between all my toes etc

AimieDaisy · 21/07/2024 00:58

I’ve just seen someone’s comment on this post that they shower twice a week, and I’ve read that poster post on another thread that they have sex 5-6 times per week 🤢🤢
