What family meals do you make in a week?

I need inspiration and also just interested to know what everyone does...

Twotimesrhymes · 16/07/2024 19:36

Well mumsnet finest cook I am not

but I usually do a roast beef on a Sunday

one night pasta and pesto (mainly to cut down on cost)

pork chop tray bake (baby spuds, root veg)

thai curry most weeks as kids favourite

bolognese (I batch cook)

sometimes fajitas, at the moment bbq one day usually Saturday)

Surprisedcupcake · 16/07/2024 19:37

The last 7 days for us:
Pasta bake
Chicken fajita wraps
Sweet pot mash, greens and sea bass
Prawn & veg curry and naan (no rice)
Pizza
Carbonara
Chinese takeaway 😬

Greenlittecat · 16/07/2024 19:38

Fajitas, spagbol/chilli, chicken breast with some sort of carb, salmon with rice, pasta and meatballs, curry. Most meals have carrots, broccoli and baby sweetcorn on the side.

Pretty standard stuff over here I'm afraid! I try out new recipes and everyone moans so just stick to the favourites mostly!

Following for inspiration though!!

TheChosenTwo · 16/07/2024 19:40

This week:
Sunday - roast chicken with all the trimmings (eaten way too bloody early to accommodate the football 😂)
Monday - dh used up the chicken leftovers and made himself something with rice, ds and I had salmon, potatoes and some greens
Tonight - Côte de boeuf with sautéed potatoes, kale and a goats cheese/herb/garlic/chilli stuffed mushroom
Tomorrow - pork tenderloin fillet but will
be cubed and kebabed on the bbq (currently marinading) with bbq’d asparagus, salad bad bread for those who want it
Thursday - pasta bake or aubergine parmigiana with salad
Friday - I’m away so I don’t know what the others are having.
Quite meat heavy this week as both our girls are out and about so we are making the most of it as they only really like chicken!
I am low carbing so have variations of the above.
Thank god for dh who does all the thinking up of meals and cooking…

SisterAgatha · 16/07/2024 19:40

Lasagne
chilli
Chorizo pasta or risotto
burgers
sloppy joes
chicken wraps
roast chicken with veg
salmon and mash
once a month I do a big pie
pizza on a Friday
Tonight was halloumi salad

mumonthehill · 16/07/2024 19:41

Pasta
noodles
roast chicken
made a feta tart last week
chicken with couscous and roasted veg
pizza

Bigcoatlady · 16/07/2024 19:43

This week:
Sat - refried beans, veg fajitas
Sun - halloumi and veg kebabs, potato salad, hummus, tzatziki, green salad, pitta breads
Mon - spaghetti bolognese, greens, carrots
Tonight - roast salmon with garlic and basil, roast mediterranean veg, new potatoes, omelettes for the veggies
Tomorrow - veg curry, dal, rice, pickles
Thurs - some kind of stir fry with tofu and noodles, details tbc
Fri - a BBQ with both and beef and veggie burgers and salads made from whatever veg are leftover in the fridge

The bolognese, curry and dal were batch cooked and hanging around in the freezer. We've got two veggies and one coeliac to cater for and I get a veg box so most of our salads and stir fries are assembled from what we have in rather than carefully planned - can already see a lot of cabbage and peppers coming up.

PickleJelly · 16/07/2024 19:45

I bought a big pack of diced lamb from Costco last week and made that into 4 meals (feeds 4 of us, plus some leftovers for lunch or the freezer).
Lamb rigatoni
Lamb and spinach curry with sweet potato.
Lamb and pearl barley soup
Lamb hot pot

Then some vegetarian meals in between to break up the amount of meat:
Ratatouille
Tomato and chick pea stew
Cherry tomato pasta

Overtheatlantic · 16/07/2024 19:47

Baked salmon with potatoes and asparagus
chicken thighs with broccoli and carrots
red beans and rice with broccoli or spinach
spag bol
fish and chips
beef stew or chili
chicken thighs again

mitogoshi · 16/07/2024 19:47

Tend to do a pasta dish, a curry, a couscous dish, a traybake, something and mash (winter) or salad (summer), a roast and a fish dish but this is all very much moveable feasts. I'm a pretty good cook but also can be lazy and so we eat out often on Fridays and/or Saturday

AhBiscuits · 16/07/2024 19:48

It's not exciting. A typical week might look like:

Sunday - roast chicken and vegetables
Monday - curry with leftover chicken and rice
Tuesday - spaghetti bolognaise and salad
Wednesday - sausage, mash, broccoli, carrots
Thursday - salmon with roasted vegetables and new potatoes
Friday - fajitas and salad
Saturday - usually something like pizza

Moll98 · 16/07/2024 19:48

Slow cooker curry on Monday, jacket potato with chilli tonight. Tomorrow will be stuffed fresh pasta with a tomato and veg sauce and garlic bread. Thursday likely to be sausage and mash. Friday I haven't decided yet. At the weekend DH usually cooks something exciting for us all. During the week it tends to be whatever is quick

OuiLaLa · 16/07/2024 19:48

mostly commenting to shamelessly steal others ideas but we generally do:

bolognese
fajitas
homemade chicken nuggets
fish fingers (not homemade)
quiche
beans on toast or picnic dinner

all with plenty of veg and yoghurt/fruit for dessert.

have quite a fussy five year old (getting better) and a two year old who is in ‘that’ two year old phase. Eats like a horse at nursery and like a bird at home.

would love more variety but seems to take ages to get them used to a new meal. Think I’m going to try lentil cottage pie next.

TrustPenguins · 16/07/2024 19:49

This week:

Sausage & mash
Spag bol
Risotto
Chicken curry
Chilli
Pasta bake
Pizza

We had burgers on Saturday, Lamb steaks on Sunday, Chicken Curry yesterday, ended up with chicken again today as i got muddled in my use by dates, so it was chicken and halloumi wraps with salad. It's pizza Wednesday, I've got a ham to cook for Thursday which we'll have one day with egg and chips and some veg and I'll either do hammy macaroni cheese with broccoli or do some sort of rice dish with the leftovers. No fish this week for dinner but we have had mackerel, tuna and prawns at lunchtime.

Your menu sounds lovely. How do you do the parmesan crusted cauliflower?

Hatty65 · 16/07/2024 19:56

Apparently I cook chicken and rice all the time.

But, chicken is cheap and everyone in the family likes it and rice.

This week we've had

Roast chicken dinner, with roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, veg and gravy
(Homemade chicken soup for lunch next day.)
Chicken biryani
Paella
Home made lamb burgers and home made chips
Butternut squash risotto
Sausage, mash and peas
Red lentil daal and rice

littlehorsesthatrun · 16/07/2024 19:57

Not very exciting here- and often do more than one thing because vegetarians.

For example:
Bolognaise / pesto pasta
Homemade fish cakes and salad
Prawn risotto
Quesidillas
Pizza
Chickpea and halloumi traybake

Inextremis · 16/07/2024 19:57

I cook everything from scratch (I'm retired, I have the time and I enjoy it)

Yesterday: chicken chow mein
Today: chicken Kyiv, creamed mushrooms, new potatoes, lettuce
Tomorrow: fish, chips and mushy peas (thanks for this thread, just reminded me to soak the peas!)
Thursday: spagbol, side salad
Friday: store-bought lasagne (DH - I don't like it, it's his pub night so it can just get shoved in the oven when he gets home), home made curry for me, from the freezer, previously batch-cooked, pilau rice
Saturday: friends coming round for a cheese fondue night
Sunday: roast lamb, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli

Bs0u416d · 16/07/2024 19:58

This week:
Sunday - Roast Pork with new potatoes, green beans and pesto
Monday - Chickpea, spinich and coconut curry with jasmine rice
Tuesday - Pork Ramen (with left overs from Sunday's roast)

Friday - Steak with mac and cheese
Saturday - Dare I pray for a BBQ?
