What family meals do you make in a week?

I need inspiration and also just interested to know what everyone does...

We have the same week in week out right now as my 5 year old is a PITA with "different" food and wont even try it, I'm hoping they get over it soon as my 2 year old eats anything!

Sausage and mash
Tuna jacket potatoes
Chicken curry
Bacon pea and leek baked risotto
Salmon with sweet potato mash & roast veg
Some kind of roast

The other day DH & I have something more interesting and the kids have a freezer tea, fish fingers or nuggets and waffles (or like last night the 5 year old has a freezer tea and the toddler has chilli and garlic prawn stir fry with us 🤣)

Huifen · 16/07/2024 22:05

General meals are;

Seabass baked and veg (DH has rice too)
Shepherds pie and veg
Pork loin and veg
Chicken breast and veg
Chicken thighs in honey mustard with veg
Salmon and veg
Stir fry pork or chicken (usually thai/chinese)

I don't eat carbs as a rule, im coeliac and dairy free. Veg comprises mix of broccoli, green beans, spinach and/or carrots. Sometimes sweetcorn and/or peas.

Sometimes DH makes a Thai green curry or some sort of jambalaya. Occasionally I make a lasagne or moussaka.

This post is good for ideas!

Porkpielasagne · 16/07/2024 23:36

My family hate my meals, I’m very adventurous and creative and they all want ‘traditional’ meals . I try to make interesting variations on things and it’s not appreciated. DP keeps cooking now. He makes things like curries , casseroles , roasts , chicken or fish and rice and veg.

My recent (and much nicer and more interesting in my opinion) meals were : pork pie lasagne (it was amazing hence my username) , deconstructed sushi in giant Yorkshire puddings, vegan hot dogs made with marinated carrots and smoked tofu, with gherkin, apple and cabbage coleslaw. I have made some lovely savoury ‘cakes’ I made a marmite sponge with a soft cheese topping and grated Red Leicester and rocket, also An olive and sundried tomato sponge I like to get the texture to be like cake and not bread and cut it like a wedge of cake.

LadyCrazyCatLady · 16/07/2024 23:38

Sunday - DS25 made sausage and black olive pasta and salad
Monday - Beef Stroganoff with rice and Broccoli, Adult DC doing their own thang
Tuesday - Left over pasta from Sunday with salad
Wednesday - Roast salmon with crushed new potatoes, home-pickled red onion, peas
Thursday - Slow Cook Lamb, roast spiced cauliflower, tomato salad, hummous and flatbreads (fancy for a week night cos DB staying!)
Friday - Share pizza with DH at the pub
Saturday- Butternut and chorizo pilaf, salad
Also, as you said you're interested in how others cook, I try not to waste anything - so the water from steaming the broccoli will be the veg 'stock' that I cook the lamb in, the water from the peas will be used to cook the rice for pilaf, and the cauli leaves I will shred and cook in butter to form the basis of a Cauli mac n cheese for next week.
