Is this dress a bit “much” for a wedding?

Dress code for the wedding is cocktail/black tie. I think it suits me (size 10/decent boobs). SIL thinks it’s great. MIL asked if I would be comfortable. DP said it’s very “different”.

YABU - it’s not appropriate
YANBU - wear it

I wouldn't wear black to a wedding.

Miri13 · 15/07/2024 23:36

It’s a lovely dress, perfect for the theme. Great choice.

Quitelikeacatslife · 15/07/2024 23:38

The ruffle one, it is the first two layers , they seem to be a bit short.
I love the coast dress higher up the thread

This is a bit gorgeous

And this is v classy

And if I had your figure I'd probably wear something like this, maybe not the colour but don't know what suits you

Love the first dress! Gorgeous.

The other is also nice.

NaneePolly · 16/07/2024 06:44

It’s too low cut

BigAnne · 16/07/2024 09:32

@Northerngirl345 beautiful dress as long as you're almost flat chested. Think it might be a bit too eye catching for a wedding though.

Meanwhile33 · 16/07/2024 09:35

I think you look great in it and I would be perfect for a fancy New Year’s Eve party, but not for a wedding guest. Too dramatic.

GoldFrame · 16/07/2024 09:40

Have people missed the black tie part?

It’s supposed to look glamourous and eye catching. This is not the time for linen maxi dresses!

pollymere · 16/07/2024 11:39

It's a great dress but not for a wedding. And not in black for a wedding either. And when my DH says it's different, he means you look great but it's horrible/inappropriate. And annoyingly he's always right 😂

Goforyourguns · 16/07/2024 14:05

Gorgeous dress !!😍perfect for the wedding.Have a fab day.

BigDahliaFan · 16/07/2024 14:08

I'm sure there'll be people there in more 'look at me' outfits...if it suits you, wear it.

God lord no.

Absolutely agree. For anyone who doesn't know your name when looking through the photos you'll be described as the woman in THAT dress.__

Honestly, I think k those are all more summer failure, than black tie wedding.

Bluebirdover · 16/07/2024 14:22

*summer fayre not summer failure 🤦‍♀️

Henrysotherwoman · 16/07/2024 14:42

If I was a size 10, decent boobs, I'd wear it. It's really nice.

TheBossOfMe · 16/07/2024 14:49

@Northerngirl345 I think if you had included this info in your OP you would have had quite different responses:

"Bit of background. Bride & Groom both work in fashion. Wedding is in central London. MIL & SIL are both wearing black. Everyone is making a big effort - hair & make up done professionally etc."

It's clearly not a traditional church wedding so I don't think usual wedding attire rules apply, especially since they've specified black tie.

It's a stunning dress, you look absolutely amazing in it, but if you're going to be uncomfortable because you're worried about what people will think, wear something else and keep this one for a different occasion.

Toptops · 16/07/2024 17:12

Too much so I think

Call me old fashioned, but I have always thought the rule “no tits out at a wedding” was one to live by.

I agree. Bit of a surprise to see the bride with hers out though..in a Church.

lol I mean I don't agree either way but thought you were being really rude!

Bluebirdover · 16/07/2024 19:22

@Quitelikeacatslife I feared you would comment before I had time to correct it!! 🤦‍♀️

It would've been sooooooo rude.

Bloody autocorrect.

I can’t believe some of the suggestions on this thread! They are aging and boring. The dress you wanted to wear is OTT, but there’s a balance between OTT and boring.

As you want to emphasise your boobs, how about something like this:

www.debenhams.com/product/coast-plunge-neck-twill-midi-dress-with-lace-trims_bcc08833?colour=navy

It’s arrived! What do we think? Better? It’s still a bit “hello, these are my boobs”

Also, re above - I’m still wearing my work shoes so I’ll wear something higher/more exciting.

You’re totally right - I was typing in a rush in the back of a cab! Context is everything!

The new dress is equally gorgeous. You look amazing. The boobs look absolutely fine for that kind of wedding.

Go forth and slay :)
