Guess this isn’t unreasonable
Firstly I love you both lots.
I want to be able to explain that I am disappointed in you both for your lack of respect for how you don’t do the few things in the house like you are meant to like keep your rooms tidy, they are getting worse and more disgusting with old food bowls etc being left in them rather than better. Also you keep leaving stuff lying about the house. I have always been happy doing things for you because I love you and wanted you to have a happy, nice childhood but you are both a lot older now and basically no different from adults so should be able to be a bit more responsible for yourselves without nagging. I’m not expecting you to do the vacuuming, fridge cleaning, bathrooms etc but if you notice a dog poo in the way, or some fly poos somewhere yucky etc there is no reason why you shouldn’t clean them up for example. If you need more storage in your rooms I can help sort it out.
Please do these things out of need and respect.
lots of love mum

How do people not know about fly poo. If you have doors and windows open a lot then you will get fly poo. We have a roof lantern in the kitchen and have all our doors and windows open a lot so we get loads of insects. As a result we get lots of insect poo. Sometimes black dots, sometimes orangey coloured. It shows on the glass and on the frames. If you clean your windows regularly you will have seen it since it can smear and ruin a bit you’ve already cleaned.

Catandsquirrel · 14/07/2024 16:47

Weird approach, guilt trippy, passive and reactive to something clearly shit related. Why haven't you set them jobs to do including bringing down pots and any washing each night? There are no firm instructions in that message only moaning about fly poo which I have never noticed in my life. Think SMART targets such as you'd get at work.

Catandsquirrel · 14/07/2024 16:48

I've mainly commented btw to find out if this is the famous poo troll. Fly poo is creative

could you have had a conversation with them?

Haha, so true, wtf would you text this to your own kids 😆😆

I just told mine what needed doing, and to do it now. They could go back to doing what they wanted when it was done.
Was I their bestie? Err no, I was their parent.
Did they grumble and complain when I insisted daily if required? Yup
Did I give a shit about their grumbling? Haha Nope. As stated I’m a parent, not a friend.
Did the jobs that needed doing get done? Yup.

maudelovesharold · 14/07/2024 16:53

I’m surprised none have you have ever come across fly poo on window frames etc

Isn't that more likely to be spider poo?
In case someone’s mentioned that already - sorry, I didn’t rtft.

Itisawaitinggame · 14/07/2024 16:57

Watch Sarah Blakemores Ted talk on adolescence. The brain does some serious rearranging during this phase of development. That’s not to say, so let them off the hook, more that it’s unlikely they will notice mess and sort it themselves very often.

LynetteScavo · 14/07/2024 17:04

Like hell I would have noticed fly poo and cleaned it up aged 16. In fact I would have run screaming from any poo, because I was a teenager who was very far from being an adult. I would expect my teens to notice either. Because teens are massive children, not adults.

Yes, they should bring plates and cups out of their rooms because you'll end up with none to use, but is it really an issue if their rooms are a mess?

I think, given how the adolescent brain works, this is really good advice. Clear, SMART goals, linked to incentives and consequences.

jannier · 14/07/2024 17:11

Why are they not doing a bit of household stuff? That's much more useful to their life....do they know how to cook, sort laundry and shop or is uni going to be pot noodle time?

StormingNorman · 14/07/2024 17:19

I think most kids would eye roll and switch off at “I’m disappointed in you”.

Sending a text when you live in the same house is a sign of weakness and far too pass ag. You need to follow up quickly with a conversation to regain the high ground.

Devilsmommy · 14/07/2024 14:14

@Nur122 if you're talking about little black dots that's damp. Pretty sure you can't see fly poo😂

Might be spider poo. We thought we had damp in our conservatory. it was just in a line all the way down the window into the wall. Turns out we have a huge false widow spider living in one of the holes in the conservatory.
She pops out every now and then. And we have three more living at various parts in the conservatory where there are holes. They don’t bother us though (except when loads of babies erupted out of nowhere and I almost had a heart attack).

WTF is fly poo, and why is there random dog shit in your home?

That's what I'm wondering. Do the teens have an untrained puppy?

LadyWiddiothethird · 14/07/2024 17:30

How ridiculous! Sit them down and tell them what they are to do! They are running rings around you.

SmudgeButt · 14/07/2024 17:30

Nur122 · 14/07/2024 14:10

The dog poo is in the garden not the house and I wrote a message so that I had a proper chance to say what I wanted. I’m surprised none have you have ever come across fly poo on window frames etc

I thought that was cOckroaches that left that. None in our house fortunately.

"but if you notice a dog poo in the way, or some fly poos somewhere yucky etc there is no reason why you shouldn’t clean them up for example. If you need more storage in your rooms I can help sort it out."

Granted I did think you were suggesting they could store the poo in their rooms if they wanted to.....

Holy crap you are way braver than me. If I knew there was a spider like that in the flat I'd have to leave or find someone brave enough to get it. I'm terrified of the fuckers 😫

user675654 · 14/07/2024 17:41

This is fly poo (a lot of it, generally you’d just see a couple)

Is it really, really that difficult to understand what op wrote?

There is such a thing as fly poo, as we’ve already established a few times on this thread now. And obviously op has a dog, it’s not some random dog, whom sometimes leaves dog poo in the garden. It doesn’t mean it is an untrained puppy, sometimes dogs need to go out late at night or very early morning when it is not possible to take them for a walk. It happens. And op is saying that whoever spots it first, could remove it from the garden. Which is fair enough.

Did that make it less complicated for you?

AmelieTaylor · 14/07/2024 17:44

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 14/07/2024 14:20

Tbh I've never come across fly poo on my windows because I clean them. That sort of nastiness only builds up if you never clean properly.

You need to be stricter with your kids, OP. They're not children. At 16 and 17 they are more than capable of pulling their own weight and softy texts (instead of talking to them face to face - what's wrong with that!?) is not going to get any sort of response.

@Killingoffmyflowersonebyone

don't be daft, fly poo happens when flies poo!! It has nothing to do with how often you clean your windows.

Yes, it’s one of the daftest things I’ve read in a long time. Can’t work out if it’s genuine because it would take a lot to be that thick tbh.

Why thank you, oh patronising person. I've never been a dog owner, hence my specific question about the possibility of there being an untrained puppy.

@pastaeatingcat

i don't what the buggers eat either as it sometimes stains the window frames... that's just given me an idea though, I'm going to try some Nanna's Secret on the stains. Oh what a thrilling life!

Sillystrumpet · 14/07/2024 17:50

Bit odd op. What’s went wrong you can’t talk to your own kids and chose text?

and fly poo? I’m 50 and never seen a fly poo in my life.

Wow, the op wants them to clean the windows when they see those little marks, I don’t get them, not many flies here though, but cleaning fly poo off windows . Who knew that was something to complain to your teens about.
