Schoolgirls spiked my daughter’s drink with laxatives.

This is more of a WWYD I guess.

My daughter has been bullied recently at school, some physical, some verbal and this week the bullies poured laxatives into her water bottle at lunchtime and I had to leave work to collect her.

I’ve not heard anything more from the school or the parents and the children are still in school.

I’m interested to hear what you think and what you would do in this situation as this is not acceptable.

”I don’t want to cause a scene”

When I was battling the authorities that seriously neglected their duties in caring for my ASD son I didn’t want to rock the boat either.

A nursery worker that was looking after my boy, very placid, gentle and wise lady who I have never heard to swear said to me at the time „I understand that you don’t want to rock the boat but when it comes to our children sometimes we have to capsize the fucking thing”

You are the voice for your child. Use it. Contact the police and get it logged. This way the school will see you’re serious, your DD will know you have her back and the bullies will be tackled.

There were many stories here of people not wanting to proceed with police involvement. School gave some wishy-washy excuses and there was no improvement.

Good luck.

Violetparis · 12/07/2024 22:14

You absolutely do need to cause a scene. Email head teacher and ask why the spiking of your daughter's drink has not been treated with the urgency it deserves. Look at the school's website to see if the school governers email addresses are available. Copy them in to your email and demand a meeting. Use the term 'spiking' a drink to stress the seriousness if the incident. I wish you and your daughter all the best.

chipsaway · 12/07/2024 22:15

Letter (not a call) to the school as it will be audited. They will then need to show how they acted.
absolutely disgusting!!

if school can’t deal i would be having a parent showdown.
i am someone who was bullied.

Once police are involved the school cannot be involved c

Everything @RawBloomers said.

OP, if your DD has been made to take unknown drugs(could have been) and ended up hospitalised, permanently disabled or dead would you still not want to cause a scene?

These nasty creatures bullying your DD need to be made aware of seriousness of the crime. What they did was criminal

Citrusandginger · 12/07/2024 22:24

I'm actually struggling to think what laxitives it would be possible to coercively administer in a water bottle. The liquids are mostly coloured/flavoured and tablets wouldn't necessarily dissolve and their taste would be detectable.

So I guess my first thought is to check it definitely happened. It's not OK but could the bullies have let your daughter think they'd given her laxitives and not actually done it?

However, if you are sure, then yes I would go to the police.

milkysmum · 12/07/2024 22:25

This is truly horrible. I would be raining down hell on the school until I was satisfied things had been dealt with, and my daughter would not be returning to school whilst any of those girls were still on roll.

Read all of OPs posts. They did it in front of her, forced her to drink it and the packets were found on them.

Why couldn’t you coercively administer a liquid laxative in a water bottle?

Fam23 · 12/07/2024 22:36

Wtf, that’s beyond bullying. Your poor daughter 💔

They were found with the wrappers.

WearyAuldWumman · 12/07/2024 22:43

I know of a case where a pupil was expelled from a private school for selling laxatives to another pupil. (Claimed they were viagra.) The culprit's parent got a cleaning bill.

This is even worse - the victim was coerced.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 12/07/2024 22:44

I would want to cause a scene. A very big one.

The school must be involved if a pupil is in danger.

Thank you Crumpleton, this is what I feel, I guess I just needed to hear it.

I don’t want to cause a scene but at the same time I can’t afford to let these kids get away with such harmful behaviour.

You need to cause a scene. This needs dealing with robustly and I think you need to go to the police regardless of what the school do or don't do

VotesForWomen · 12/07/2024 22:46

Police, without delay. School have not prevented things from escalating to this level, so next up, the big guns. Police.

Choochoo21 · 12/07/2024 22:50

I’d be raising absolute hell!

You need to be going to the police yourself and not letting DD return until these girls have been removed from school.

Its bad enough to put laxatives in her drink but the fact that they did it so openly and made her drink it in front of them is absolutely vile behaviour and I think bullying is not a serious enough word for what they did.

The fact that it was pre-meditated is awful too.

If you go down complain route with OFSTED follow the school’s complaints policy first

Oh FGS! Why are you so fixated on policy?
Surely, whatever the schools 'policy' is, it wasn't written with 'students poisoning other students' in mind?

As a criminal offence, pretty sure this bypasses any 'policy'...

crumblingschools · 12/07/2024 22:53

If you read the OFSTED complaints page it tells you to go through school’s complaints policy first.

Posters are always keen to shout go to OFSTED but you have to follow the process, otherwise it doesn’t work!

WearyAuldWumman · 12/07/2024 22:55

I've just Googled to see what harm excess laxatives cause. They could have killed your daughter OP.

Rain fire. If they get off with this, they'll continue to make your daughter's life hell. If you don't stand up for your daughter, who will?

How Laxative Abuse Can Harm You

Excessive laxative use or laxative abuse is trying to lose weight, shed calories, or feel “empty” by repeated use of laxatives. Know the symptoms, causes, and treatment options.

Please report it to the police asap because they're the organisation responsible for dealing with something like this.

My son was bullied by a teacher then by the principal after I reported the teacher for physically assaulting my son which was witnessed by the entire class. I tried dealing with the school and it dragged on for months and the principal threatened to report me to social services if I didn't drop it. In the end I went to the Gardai - Irish police who were fantastic and the matter was very swiftly dealt with to my satisfaction.

It took the Gardai getting involved for it to be taken seriously and they softened the principal's cough and he used to turn and high tail it if he ever spotted me after that. They advised me that parents should report assaults to them and not just to the school.

The school complaints procedure is nothing to do with going to the police. An assault needs the police to be informed. The school can be told that the police are involved.

crumblingschools · 12/07/2024 23:00

I have also told the OP to go to the police.

But on pretty much every thread where a poster is complaining about a school a poster will shout contact OFSTED. And it just doesn’t work like that.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 12/07/2024 23:12

OP, I’d be contacting the governors of the school, the head of the MAT (if there is one) and the police. This is truly appalling.
