Wearing a skimpy bikini around teenage son

I'm late 40's and have recently lost alot of weight. I have treated myself to some new bikinis for an upcoming beach holiday and some are thong styles. I did originally buy the thong ones for when me and DH go away later in the year alone. But every holiday I go on abroad there is so many people younger and older than me showing all their bums! When I was a teen it was rare, but not anymore. Just not sure I'm brave enough or if it would be a massive no with adult/teen children! Wwyd?

They look so unhygienic. I don't know how anyone can wear them! It is revolting for other people to look at and reminds me of Peter Stringfellow or pornhub or something. Not a look I am aiming for at any age.

Mememememememe. Fuck everyone else

Yes, fuck everyone else. You can't just decide what's "offensive and classless" for everyone because funnily enough people have different opinions and it's impossible to please everyone. I couldn't care less whether people wear thong bikinis or not.

'Fuck that mother,' could really do with a comma after 'that'!

No way would I wear a thong on holiday with my teens. They're not the nicest item of clothing really, especially if teamed with saggy/pimply/pasty/lumpy bottoms.

😂😂😂😂
A perfect example of the importance of punctuation!
You've made my dat
Thank you!

No I wouldn't wear no matter my age or body type. Currently on holiday, 2 young girls with great bodies wearing at the pool and they still looked horrendous. After sitting down for a while when they walk around the bum cheeks are red and blotchy like they've just been slapped! Awful awful. Another girl had one on and hair poking out. They are just nasty! 🤢

Omg, I'm eating my breakfast here!!!

Behappyandbehave · 09/07/2024 22:38

I think I've made me decision 😂 but I do disagree that they look awful on everyone. Some people look great! I wouldn't describe my arse as perfect but I would say it's ok for a thong (just maybe not with the teens!) DH would love it. We are staying at a private rental in Sep so will save them for then!

All's well that ends well.

Tillhatedoesuspart · 10/07/2024 06:43

Got to agree, there's some terribly ageist, classist, judgemental comments on this thread.

For instance, so what if a young woman has a few pimples on her bum??? I've got a few on my face, should I not show it in public? Honestly, what a horrible comment to make.

I have never worn a bikini due to my own body hang ups, but I really admire women who don't give a shit about looking perfect and wear one anyway, I wish I had their confidence.

Unfortunately, as this thread shows, there are still plenty of other women sitting around the pool/beach judging them for it. I find it sad.

OP, I think you should wear it if you want to wear it. Honestly, you won't be the only one. It sounds like a lot of the people judging you on this thread haven't actually been on holiday for a few years, because thong bikinis are everywhere now. Fuck what your son thinks, he'll get over it. My mum used to go topless on holiday. Yes, I was embarrassed, but everything she did at that age embarrassed me, and, in retrospect, good for her for just doing what she wanted.

And to the posters who say that you need a small bum, no, the whole point is that big bums are beautiful these days, it's not the 80s anymore.

LlynTegid · 10/07/2024 06:44

Have a lovely holiday. I see you have decided.

DoAClassicCamel · 10/07/2024 06:44

You could always speak to your son and ask him.

Iaminthefly · 10/07/2024 06:45

@Sondheimisademigod I'm 45 and look great in a bikini thanks.

I work hard to keep in good shape. Why should I cover up just because I'm over a certain age?

That said I wouldn't wear a thong one. They look horrible!

Iaskedyouthrice · 09/07/2024 23:56

Fucking hell the bile on this thread. Some women really hate the thought of another woman having a body to be proud of don't they?

Oh come off it. Nobody has a 'good body' after 40. Nature sees to that. Connective tissue and collegen are decreasing, few bits are tight.
Madonna still looks ridiculous, despite her 'toned' body.
People are not spouting bile; they are showing that they have class, whereas those who think it's ok for any middle-aged body to be on display in public, clearly are demonstrating they don't. Because class means you consider the effects of your actions on others. So thise who think they can do or say what they want, when they want, are entirely classless

You could always speak to your son and ask him.

Seriously? You'd let your son decide what you wear? And how would you feel in future when he thinks he has a right to tell his partner what to wear?

Great lesson to teach him 🤦

That 'DH would love it' extra reinforces 'not in front of your son'.

You don't look hot for your husband in front of your DC.

Oh god, imagine being classless! The horror!

Sondheimisademigod · 10/07/2024 06:15

It may be ok to 'teach' your children that bodies come in all shapes and sizes, but ther's decorum and class to teach also.
No middle-aged person looks good in a bikini (be that a 'skimpy' or 'full-sized [as if there is a deifference] bikini, no matter their size.

It's not about looking good vs not looking good.

It's about the sexualisation of bodies. Thongs are an overtly sexual item of clothing.

It's fine to show skin, but thongs just highlight that naked bodies = sex. That's literally what they were designed for, and that's why they are not particularly suitable to wear on holiday in front of your teenage son.

Being nude in an appropriate, non-sexualised context would be better than wearing a thong.

Shouldn't we be trying to teach the next generation that bodies don't always have to be sexualised?

Sondheimisademigod · 10/07/2024 06:51

Crushed23 · 10/07/2024 06:21

Haven’t RTFT, but I’m a big fan of skimpy bikinis, including thong bikinis (though I go for Brazilian style than g-string).

Why? I have a great bottom so they look good and I think the tan lines are sexier with a skimpy bikini.

Well done you
Boasting is not an attractive trait

In that case, I'm quite happy to be classless. Seems a much nicer, more relaxing existence, than having to be so vile and judgemental about other women's bodies and clothing choices.

Iaminthefly · 10/07/2024 06:51

@Sondheimisademigod Nobody has a good body after 40? What?

Your body might have gone to shit. Doesn't mean everyone elses has🤣

MoonAndStarsAndSky · 10/07/2024 06:54

Put it on and ak your teenage son and get his opinion.

I’m not saying that at all. Have you never been unsure about an item of clothing and asked for someone else’s opinion? The OP wasn’t sure what her adult/teen children would think, so why not show them what you have bought and see what they say. So many people ask MN the question instead of asking the actual person. Personally if I liked it enough to have bought it I’d wear it.

Speedweed · 10/07/2024 06:55

I think you can wear what you want, but my tip would be to put it on and video yourself from behind walking, jumping, bending over to do up your sandal etc, and then make a decision.

Standing still with everything clenched may look very different to how it actually looks in motion.

If you're still happy it looks good after that test, my hat is off to you, and have a great time star-jumping and cart-wheeling down the beach!

Fridgetapas · 10/07/2024 06:57

I mean how thong are we talking here? I think lots of people have ditched the big cover the whole bum nappy style and have ones that kind of skim across half the bum cheek - quite flattering. Or are we talking proper up your arse thing? That would be a no from me!

Sondheimisademigod · 10/07/2024 06:59

Oh, it certainly hasn't. But it is not the same as it was.
That applies to everyone, so put away your magis mirrors and face the truth

Moonlitwalk · 10/07/2024 07:00

Thongs look good on no-one

This lol, even Giselle would look dodgy in a thong, they are so deeply unflattering, and they also remind me of Peter Stringfellow.

A normal style bikini is fine. I wear those and have teenagers.

AnneButNotHathaway · 10/07/2024 07:03

Do as you please, no one actually cares about the way we look but us!

silentassassin · 10/07/2024 07:03

Oh come off it. Nobody has a 'good body' after 40. Nature sees to that. Connective tissue and collegen are decreasing, few bits are tight

This is utter garbage. Plenty of people have great figures over 40 and plenty of people under 40 are really out of shape.
