Told to f*ck off for forgetting a birthday

First off I know im unreasonable for this part but I forgot my friends bday. I remembered the day after and texted on weds to say so sorry I forgot, happy bday, will drop a pressie round soon. Dont hear anything back but dont think anything off it, we both have young kids and busy lives. Texted her again today to ask if she wants to come to a concert I have tickets for next week and she just texted back ‘fuck off’

AIBU to think she’s totally ott?I know it’s bad I forgot (she always remembes!) but j apologised. It’s been a hard week. My youngest has slapped cheek and is miserable, oldest is SEN, I’m pregnant and have ADD. She knows all this btw. We’re women in our 40s, I like birthdays and celebrating but I wouldnt mind even a little bit of someone forgot my bday, especially if they apologised after.

I haven’t texted back and don’t know what to do now

@OldScribbler

Because it doesn't matterthat much. Other things matter infinitely more. Are they short of money? Can they pay their way? Do they have decent jobs? Are their children happy? Do they have somewhere nice to liive? All more important to their happiness than when their birthdays are.

Most people would agree those things are important, I expect @Ilovecleaning was more incredulous that a parent wouldn't know the dates their children were born.

Is there such a thing as a Birthdayzilla

Who the hell has a Birthday Week

and is in their 40s

i wasn’t having a goat you and I understand about there are more important things to worry about. I just thought children’s birthdays are emblazoned on people’s brains. My DH however has to concentrate to remember his kids’ birthdays so you might have a point! 😊

Yes; there are definitely Birthdayzillas, who have tantrums if they feel that their birthday is not being sufficiently honoured. Some are arrogant bullies; some are people who seem prepared to accept being taken for granted or ignored 364 days of the year in exchange for being extravagantly honoured on the Special Day of their birthday.

But having a birthday week doesn't make you one. I wouldn't do so myself (in fact, I'm at the opposite extreme of never wanting to be reminded of my birthday at all), but I have a friend who has a birthday fortnight. But he isn't a Birthdayzilla.- he just enjoys parties and get-togethers.

Yeah I'll be having a birthday week simply because not everyone I love can get together on the same day. But it's not a big performance or anything. You a few different get togethers with different people. Everyone I know does the same!

How strange. I wouldn’t be messaging her ever again 😄

Nor would I. That would end the friendship entirely for me.

CandyLeBonBon · 11/07/2024 14:24

I have four grown-up children. I haven't the vaguest idea when their birthdays are.

How can anyone not remember their own children's birthdays? That's not something I've ever heard of!

It’s not even that the specific dates have been forgotten it’s that there isn’t even the vaguest idea!!!

Presumably that a MOTHER doesn’t know the dates her children were born. Dads I can see potentially weren’t in the room or working away… you can’t have a baby born without having a mother right there giving birth to it. Which is usually an at least mildly noticeable event for the mum.

Could have given birth around Christmas…or was it during summer…could have been anything really. 🤷‍♀️

Im not sure when my kids were born. Judging by the size of them, it was probably a good while after I left school. I couldn't tell you how my kids were born either. No idea if it was vaginal births, ceasarians, something else, who knows. I just know that one is very pale so was probably born in winter, and one is probably a spring baby as she quite likes salad and riding her bike. Motherhood is full of mysteries, isn't it?

That makes sense. 😂 To some.

Your friends is BU especially as you’ve said she has a birthday week! If someone said that to me I wouldn’t drop off the gift! No offence OP but you have ADD, a child with SEN and you’re in your 40’s so why on earth would you have another child??

What a rude question! Who are you to insinuate that OP shouldn't have had any more children?

But my dd is also very pale and I assumed she was born during summer because she has very green eyes and our grass is very green during summer. Now I’m confused.
Winter you say?

Yes but lots of apples are in Season in October so I would have assumed your daughter was an autumn baby.

Darkdiamond · 11/07/2024 18:02

Actually makes sense as it's colder in autumn too so that would explain the pale skin.

Oh. Yes she does also have dark red hair a bit like an autumn leaf so you could be right actually.

But when she was born she had red hair standing straight up and people said she looked a bit like a Good Luck Troll. And trolls don’t like the sun or summer. So my conclusion is, like you say, autumn or perhaps early winter before the snow comes.

mamaduckbone · 11/07/2024 18:11

Wow...that's insane! Unless there is a massive backstory she is completely ridiculous.

A bit like this but with green eyes and much much paler.

Absolutely autumn, end of October, early November (no later than 2nd Nov). Not that the date matters, obv.
