AIBU for loving this grim weather?

So far this has been a great summer for me. I cannot tolerate the heat, my favourite seasons being autumn and winter, so this rainy, chilly weather is right up my street.
I know it is selfish, but it's not as if I am controlling the weather.
Does anyone else feel similarly?

I don't like rain but I don't cope well in heat. Around 16/17 degrees is ideal for me.

combinationpadlock · 07/07/2024 09:45

I love it too

Procrastinates · 07/07/2024 09:46

Well you're NBU to like what you like but given we have rain, wind and grey skies for approximately 10 months of the year then it seems odd to be so glad we're having more of the same in the few weeks we get drier warmer weather.

CeibaTree · 07/07/2024 09:47

We had a very hot week away at half term so I am absolutely fine with this weather as I feel that was plenty enough hot weather for me. I am also an autumn and winter lover and am happy that the nights feel they are already noticeably drawing in. Not too keen on the torrential rain though as it does limit outdoor activities.

Bettysnow · 07/07/2024 09:51

I love it op as I don't like warm weather. I've much more energy and feel happier when it's cooler and raining. The colder it gets the better I feel

Mb76 · 07/07/2024 09:55

I’m the same, love it! I sleep so much better and my hay fever has been much less horrible this summer compared to the previous 8 years. Ironically this is the first summer where we have prepared for the heat and bought a portable air con.

MrsToothyBitch · 07/07/2024 09:56

If that's what you like then fair enough. I personally prefer a proper summer as we get enough winter.

My specific issue with the weather where I am is that it keeps cycling through sunnny to grey and rainy quite quickly. DH and I both suffer dreadfully with pressure headaches and changeable weather causes them. I'd like to go more than 3 or 4 days without a squashing, pressing headache down to my teeth that pain killers won't touch- they go when the weather shifts. DH suffers at a slightly different air pressure to me so between us we lose a lot of time to stuff like this in "changeable" conditions.

Sherrystrull · 07/07/2024 09:56

I like it cooler but hate the constantly random short rain showers. Rubbish for drying my washing!

RitaAndFrank · 07/07/2024 09:57

I kind of agree. But my perfect summer weather is low twenties and sunny, so while I’m not a fan of the grey, wind and rain, I am of these lower temperatures.

Saisong · 07/07/2024 09:58

I'm a guilty shit summer lover too!

My family are all moaning, but I'm secretly loving not feeling like a sweaty mess at all times (peri-meno to boot).

Saisong · 07/07/2024 09:58

Plus I don't have to water the garden every 5 minutes

Expo23 · 07/07/2024 09:58

I dislike the heat but I would like some more blue in the sky!

ElsieMc · 07/07/2024 09:59

I really don't like summer, much preferring Autumn. I haven't noticed the nights drawing in yet, generally do at the end of July and it makes me pleased. I hate hot, sunny days. What a joy sucker I am.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 10:00

The haters will be here any minute!
It's too rainy for me but definitely prefer the cooler temps from a personal point of view. And what you've said is what I keep saying on the other threads.. we can't control the weather! Just by enjoying it we aren't keeping it here. They act like expressing relief is somehow blocking the sun/heat 😂
Yes it's worrying for farmers and all the other issues it causes. I've never had a summer where I've got the fire on most nights.
But people can still be relieved on a personal level that they aren't melting, getting sunburn, constant hats and cream for kids, hayfever, being able to sleep properly, work comfortably etc

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 07/07/2024 10:02

YABU. One of the best things about living in the UK is that we should get to enjoy four seasons that are remarkably different from each other. Wet summers with low temperatures aren't good, I want dry warmth.

ClemFandango1 · 07/07/2024 10:02

I love it too! I'd be happy if it never went above 22.

Disturbia81 · 07/07/2024 10:02

The days where it was 26c+ last week, people were really suffering in the city centre, in transport etc. It's different if you're on holiday next to a pool in a tiled apartment with nothing to do.

RosieChardonnay · 07/07/2024 10:02

I like the slightly lower temperatures but dislike the grey skies and rain. 18-22 with blue skies would be a perfect summer for me.

GingerPirate · 07/07/2024 10:03

I get you, but I definitely hate rain.
Wet spectacles, mud, dirt, not much possibility to work outside on the house.
However, the most depressing season for me has always been Spring, since childhood.

Caterguin · 07/07/2024 10:05

I hate it. I need some summer to get me through the winter months. Every day is grey, generally with rain and often wind. It's about 11 degrees in the morning and occasionally gets to 18 by the afternoon. I think we've had about 6 warm days with some sun. Can't plan for anything.

ouch321 · 07/07/2024 10:05

The temps are fine but oh god the rain. 3rd day in a row heavy rain in London all day long.

BBC Weather app shows more rainy days ahead too. Not good

Also worry a bit about lack of dry conditions and warmth for growth of British fruit and vegetables.

BrioNotBiro · 07/07/2024 10:05

I prefer coolness to raging heat, I just wish for blue skies!

Whinge · 07/07/2024 10:07

YANBU for enjoying the weather you like. But I wish we could have some dry days. There have been so many local events that have been rained off or cancelled due to the shit weather, and it's going to have a huge impact on fundraising. Sad

RaininSummer · 07/07/2024 10:08

I don't like it boiling but I want a summer. The garden is in the doldrums and everything is such hard work because of endless rain. My house feels damp too.

Crunchymum · 07/07/2024 10:10

I don't like the heat much. 22c and sunny is perfect for me.

But the rain is depressing. So far we've had the following cancelled or take place in the rain. Sports day (tbc as weather is forecast to be wet all day), friends party in park (cancelled), school fun run (took place in pissing rain, lots of people understandably bailed), local festival (took place in the rain, footfall was very light, a huge shame for all the vendors and people putting on activities), school fair (forecast is showery).

All these events have been planned for a time of year when you just don't expect torrential rain.

Just a few weeks of it being dry would be nice.
