I scrutinised the manifestos of the people standing in my constituency. The only one to mention safe places for females was reform. And on that single issue, I voted for them.

Yet the leader of that party admires Andrew Tate, a man who advocates choking, sexual assault & rape. A leader who fraternises with “grab them by the pussy” Trump. Plus the misogynist candidates they have banned, including ones who bemoan the amount of money women cost the NHS, and wants us to pay more

Its not what they write, it’s what they do .. and I don’t think they offer “safe spaces for women” with those attitudes.

I find it so fascinating that people think that their vote is the only right one. God forbid if we had PR in this country everyone's vote might have counted.
Labour got 9mil votes. Conservatives 6mil and reform 3 or 4 mil - yet somehow we ended up with a landslide Labour victory.

You can’t take the popular vote at face value though. People voted tactically, I don’t really think you can read too much into the popular vote when it’s FPTP.

Not what I meant - anyone can vote for them for whatever reasons they want, but to dig their heals in because of insults seems like a immature reason to me.

And I mean that for any party , not just reform.

It's the same in the US, voting for trump just to "show the libs" seems irrational to me.

That's human nature for you.

Myahe · 05/07/2024 18:23

What's so awful about Reform?

Don't jump on me, I actually voted Green (a Labour MP took the seat, but happy with that) but I looked at all of the manifestos, I was surprised with how many good points Reform had, on the face of it.

I can see why they appealed.

It's easy to say things that appeal to people if both the things you say and the people you are saying it to have no interest in reality.

To be honest I'm quite glad Farage has finally be elected as an MP. He'll hate dealing with constituents and their local issues. He'll hate having to comply with parliamentary transparency rules. He'll hate the procedures and order of day-day life in Westminster, especially around when and how he can voice his views. He'll hate all the scrutiny into his dodgy affairs.

I think being an MP will break him or, at the very least, severely curtail his ability to disrupt and divide.

I’ve had ‘fuck off Paki go back to your own country’ shouted at me one too many times in my life to think that people who are mates with out & out racists could possible be ok

Sorry you've had to put up with that 😥
This is why I wanted them out and would also never vote Reform - the racists have been emboldened to spout their racist shit for far too long.

MotherFeministWoman · 05/07/2024 19:45

NotHooray · 05/07/2024 19:17

But they obviously dont think it's bad, do they? As someone elsewhere on MN said, the majority are disenfranchised voters hoping for better and not trusting another party to deliver, due to experience, and so voting for the new kid on the block. To insult and mud-sling will entrench their opinion.

But why would it entrench their opinion? One shouldn't build their opinions on how other people react to them.

OldTinHat · 05/07/2024 19:45

Ah. Yes, this is the AIBU board.

Some of you are so intolerant and judgemental. How can you broadly state that all Reform voters must be 'thick'?

Maybe if you were more open minded and listened to every point of view instead of hurling unjustified insults to quite a large percentage of the country, then you may learn to accept that people are allowed to have a different point of view to yourself.

Tiredalwaystired · 05/07/2024 19:49

I’m not sure any of this is about reform (or labours)popularity as much as the tories unpopularity. In five years time we will have a much better idea of true voter intentions.

Farage is friends with sex-traffickers and racists: what a legend.

Do you know him personally? Lol

People are allowed to have a different view from me and I'm allowed to think those views are stupid racist and selfish.

You’re getting offended at the wrong thing entirely. We should all be up in arms that such an intolerant, racist, hateful party is gaining such traction because of the protest vote.

I take it back - reform voters aren’t thick as pig shit. They are racist and homophobic. Does that help?

Toujoursenfrance · 05/07/2024 19:53

NecessaryNC24 · 05/07/2024 18:26

It's awkward to say but I do think Reform voters tend to be a bit thick, or at least don't think the policies through - more of a visceral reaction.

Most people who vote reform aren’t actually thick- the thick ones sit at home moaning about how shit the country is and how good reform are but are too lazy to actually go out and vote.
You’ll probably find most of the people who vote reform are actually very clever. They voted reform because they agree on some levels with their manifesto but know there’s no way they’d ever win- they wouldn’t vote them otherwise. They vote reform to get a voice and be heard. To make the real leaders or the country take notice and do something about some of the issues reform are bringing up but in a sensible manner and without the racist/xenophobic/homophobic fashion that reform emulate.

Exactly this, lots of people voted Green where I live, even a plot in my household between Labour and Green but with PP those votes would more than likely be Labour.

Rizzo81 · 05/07/2024 20:02

I am from Basildon so am not surprised. Home of the “just fuckin shoot em on the beach” fucking twats.

hattie43 · 05/07/2024 20:03

What's really been noticeable the last few days is how insulting and intolerant of any views except their own is the left . I've never seen such personal attacks or vitriol from any other party .
It's eye opening those who pertain to be the most tolerant are actually the least tolerant.

You’ve not spent much time on any of the reform social media pages then have you?

these idiots are not in the slightest bit clever.

thick, full of hatred and easily taken in by social media.

Dymaxion · 05/07/2024 20:04

Those who voted Reform have actually been implicit in the Labour win by splitting the right vote, so I can't hate them Grin

I hope that those in Farage's constituency are going to ensure he works hard for them, at a local level , not just asking the odd question in Parliament and appearing regularly in the media . I also think that if Trump looks likely to win, his constituents won't see him for dust !

Yes but we don’t say we want to shoot brown people and blow their boats up so I think the intolerance still mostly veers to the right, no?

I've seen countless people of all colours and ethnic backgrounds voting reform - are you saying those black and Asian people are racist too??

Any ethnicity can be racist, obviously. People are all the same under their skin.

I was wondering what Farage will do if Trump wins. I think he only came back to lead Reform in order to hedge his bets.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 05/07/2024 20:06

It's my constituency and I'm gutted! There were only 98 votes in it! We've had boundary changes and have been put with part of Thurrock and I would be interested to know where the majority of votes came from. Thurrock are in a complete mess, council went bankrupt through bad investments and there's no money for anything and everything is being cut. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the votes came from there.

Rizzo81 · 05/07/2024 20:08

Just like the Trump election, these smooth brained bozos will now claim that they were actually meant to have more seats, that this is all a big conspiracy from the establishment.

I agree with this. Makes me wonder what some of these people on here are like in real life.
