to think that people who are mates with out & out racists could possible be ok

Yep.

Farage is a racist and so is anyone who votes for him.

My only hope is that they all show themselves up in Parliament and voters realise Farage doesn't give a shit about them.

I'm really sorry you have to put up with racist abuse.

The joke of it? I’m not even Asian (mum adopted, obviously some mixed heritage - no idea what) dread to think what it’s like for actual people of colour

ExtraOnions · 05/07/2024 18:34

hattie43 · 05/07/2024 18:32

A multi million Asian entrepreneur is a big donor .

You might find donations start to dry up, once they are open to scrutiny. At the moment Reform PLC does not have to be particularly transparent - however MPs have to be very transparent.

Farage is friends with sex-traffickers and racists: what a legend.

Our Prime Minister has to meet with our King who gave Jimmy Saville power, hid known pedophiles and is institutionally racist.
Labour has got to address their attitude that sexually inappropriate/pedophile behaviour is ok as long as it's an asylum seeker doing it.

Hedgerow2 · 05/07/2024 18:35

NecessaryNC24 · 05/07/2024 18:26

It's awkward to say but I do think Reform voters tend to be a bit thick, or at least don't think the policies through - more of a visceral reaction.

Glad you said that! Spot on!

IClaudine · 05/07/2024 18:35

lovelysunshine22 · 05/07/2024 18:24

Well this is a warning to Labour not to fuck around over the next few years if i ever saw one! It will be many more when they have had four years to organise and people have had to put up with 4 years of Labours sneering and patronising!

People who are not racist won't vote Reform UK PLC, however fed up they are with Labour.

I don’t think that’s a good thing though. Look how well that went for just calling every Brexit voter thick and racist.

There are better ways to bring someone round than to insult them. That’s more likely to make them dig in their heels

Oh, was Savile an asylum seeker?

You do know Savile and Thatcher were good friends?

NecessaryNC24 · 05/07/2024 18:38

Pretty sure Saville was born in Leeds Grin.

And if we had proportional representation Farage says they would have 100 seats. Never heard a better reason to stick with first past the post.

I thought he really showed his true boorish self when faced with hecklers this afternoon.

First past the post is abhorrent, there are no good reasons to keep it

Motomum23 · 05/07/2024 18:39

I find it so fascinating that people think that their vote is the only right one. God forbid if we had PR in this country everyone's vote might have counted.
Labour got 9mil votes. Conservatives 6mil and reform 3 or 4 mil - yet somehow we ended up with a landslide Labour victory.

SkippysEar · 05/07/2024 18:40

Well done Reform

Hedgerow2 · 05/07/2024 18:40

@hattie43 - well I don't think Starmer is dull. I'm quite excited by someone who has such integrity, determination and ability. I don't need to be entertained by buffoons like Boris or Nigel to be interested in politics. Sadly too many people value the entertainment factor over ability.

I think the Reform vote yesterday is the best reason possible.

I've seen countless people of all colours and ethnic backgrounds voting reform - are you saying those black and Asian people are racist too??

hattie43 · 05/07/2024 18:19

I didnt vote Reform but you can't deny how popular they are in a very short space of time . They got significantly more votes than the Lib Dem's who have been around years .

For me, although technically true, it feels like a stretch to call Reform an entirely new party.

Particularly given the Farage link, they are very much a spiritual successor to UKIP.

I'm sure Reform will be happy with the results but a shift from 0% of the vote to 14.5% sounds a lot more dramatic than a change from peak UKIP (12.75%) to 14.5%.

After promising the Refendum, the Tories were able to coax those voters back into the Conservative Party tent - those same voters now seem to have exitted back into the space previously occupied by UKIP.

hattie43 · 05/07/2024 18:42

I think part of the appeal of people like Farage and Trump is they stand up for their country , patriotism, against what some people see as a very quick changing demographic and a culture war they don't understand or like.

I think Reform shows the country overall is not as progressive as people may like . You can tell people to think a certain way but it doesn't mean they will .

I voted reform. I think people are scared of the change that will come with them being in. I think it’s what we need.

Justcallmebebes · 05/07/2024 18:42

I'm not sure it shows how popular Reform is, rather how unpopular the Tories are

What's so awful about Reform?

Don't jump on me, I actually voted Green (a Labour MP took the seat, but happy with that) but I looked at all of the manifestos, I was surprised with how many good points Reform had, on the face of it.

I can see why they appealed.

You voted Green, therefore you must believe in climate change and that we aren’t acting urgently enough to avoid the climate and nature crises. Page 8 of Reform’s manifesto is all about how net zero is crippling our economy. Which is basically the exact opposite of what the Green’s stand for and if you are invested in climate change enough to vote green, you know they use a number of lies on that page. The Skidmore review found that the U.K. not accelerating to net zero quick enough was hindering our economic development. Wind and solar power are also now cheaper than coal and gas. How can you think granting new oil fields in the North Sea is a good policy when you voted Green? That’s baffling!

The problem is, Nigel Farage is Reform’s front man. His views are the party’s views - if the party didn’t agree with those views, they wouldn’t have him as their front man and he’d have been kicked out and the Reform party would have issued a hasty apology. So all those sensible things actually have the subtext of his racist views.

I saw a woman being interviewed earlier, who had voted Reform.. she was upset with the government, as she owned a Buisness, and it was now really hard to export goods .. and she voted Reform, who were key (under thier previous name) to us losing access to our nearest export market

It’s things like that that make me shake my head

Good point. I also think once they are shown to not care much about constituency matters (save perhaps Rupert Lowe or maybe Lee Anderson) then those who voted in protest will not do so next time.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 18:44

Meh. 4 or 5. What's the difference?

They're going to be under so much scrutiny now.

I'm actually looking forward to watching this. 👀 🍿
