What a brave lady.

Whilst I am not an ardent Labour supporter, I completely support you and how you have stood up to the bullying, racism, violence and hatred sent your way.

Sad that your family could not be there to see your victory but under the circumstances you made the right choice.

That this country is allowing this type of intimidation and behaviour - we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Sorry I don't understand your point.

From Jess's twitter account

"One day the eejits will realise that aggression makes me grow in strength, it is kindness and hope that makes me crumble."

Peakypolly · 05/07/2024 17:43

No one is calling it out the predominantly Muslim men putting the uppity women in her place…if we don’t stand up to that as pure misogyny hate crime (which funnily enough labour will look at ) and use “ah but” victim blaming, you are excusing this behaviour
Terrifying. I do not have the eloquence and education that many on this thread have but surely these men should be arrested? I fear for the inspiring city of Birmingham, where I see multi-culturalism in action every day. The 'no go' areas mentioned previously are not representative of the city as a whole. Can Muslim women in these areas be empowered? Do they want democracy?
As a side comment, thankfully I have found the police in Birmingham far from misogynistic.

What on earth has that got to do with Harriet Harman not understanding basic biological facts? 🙄

I hope she has decent security. I think she is at risk.

I suspect that if they were arrested there would be riots.

Don’t you realise that Jess Philips, of all people, is very very aware about of MVAWG and has done more to highlight it than any other mp. Yes, there is much to disagree with her on, but she is NOT the enemy of women’s safe spaces. I’m stunned you have assumed to give her lectures on MVAWG or victim blame her with a “but” (there’s always a but at the start of a victim blame)

Yes she tows the labour line on trans - but she is not the perpetrator or cause of trans right demanding access to women’s spaces. She compromises like many MPs need to to fit their own ideals to a policitcsl party home. If all MPs insisted on joint parties with which they could only agree 100% with everything they said, we’d have 500 plus political parties. or 3 with no policies other than do nothing. Life is about compromises, and Jess, with all her faults imho, cannot be faulted for the positive and persistent stance she has taken on many women’s causes to our benefit.

she is also not a supporter of labour parties stance on gaza- she got a child out for medical help which is more than most mp. She lost her position on front bench by her stance fgs.

she was being abused and she was clearly frightened, angry. She’s clearly had to absorb the stress and fear of other women who were working with her as they too were targeted. David challen, who has much to thank Jess for and vice versa, is right to highlight it. It was a shameful spectacle of bullying, trying to shut a women up

all those saying she was upset for nearly loosing a seat. She didn’t . She won. Same as Wes streaming- they weren’t shouting threats and abusing him during his campaign were they? I sound like I agree with their politics. I absolutely don't agree with them threatening and abusing people.

What are their politics that you agree with? Gaza? Protesting about the Israel by bringing violence and intimidation to our democratic process?

Of course they should be arrested and its shocking that more civilised members of society aren't pushing back REALLY hard on this. It's absolutely infuriating and I dread the country my daughters live in. What's it going to look like in 20yrs, we should be nipping this crap in the bud.

The accounts of women who have lived in these parts of Birmingham are shocking but any attempts to discuss improving things will be dismissed as racist

The story is always more nuanced than the tik tok style information being passed around

I’ve never been on TikTok, that article I posted wasn’t on TikTok, why are you lying, is it because it’s pages back, thread moving fast you think people can’t be arsed to check? People should be made aware of her poor choices & she’s repeating history by parroting TWAW, here she is saying that in case you accuse me of spreading misinfo

No, I was referring to tiktok style soundbites etc

EsmaCannonball · 05/07/2024 17:50

Foreign policy is important and I think it's right that people do factor it into their vote but mainstream politics needs to address the fact that a growing number of people in Europe, on the right and the left, are anti-western liberal democracy and would quite like the UK to become more like Russia or China or Iran, depending on their political or religious persuasion. The trouble is I can see that MPs can win back many Reform voters via socio-economic policies but I don't see how you can appease a lobby that would like Israel wiped off the map, hates the very idea of female MPs and thinks Jess Phillips is actually genocidal.

No she did not.

I don't think wider global issues should be allowed to infiltrate our politics here. It will be never ending hot bed that is impossible for any MP to manage, IF this is allowed to continue.

MPs should be standing solely on local issues. They can not and should not be getting involved in politics all over the world, that has NOTHING at all to do with the area they work in. It should be a zero tolerance policy that MPs represent local issues only surrounding their area and nothing else.

The minute we start to deviate into global politics then this will happen constantly and takes away all of the time, oxygen and energy from the very local issues they were being appointed for, because everyone has a different view on everything worldwide.

We allow PEACEFUL protest in this country, but this is at risk if it becomes uncontrolled mobs and thugs abusing our MPs and others, and not the peaceful protest at all.
