What a brave lady.

Whilst I am not an ardent Labour supporter, I completely support you and how you have stood up to the bullying, racism, violence and hatred sent your way.

Sad that your family could not be there to see your victory but under the circumstances you made the right choice.

That this country is allowing this type of intimidation and behaviour - we should be ashamed of ourselves.

Gosh, I think having to explain that would rather defeat the point I was making!

So none of it then 🤷🏻‍♀️

CurlewKate · 06/07/2024 13:06

@Galadriel9 Ah. Philip Davies. I suggest you look a little into the bona fides of this campaigner against "political correctness" and against equal marriage before you present him as an honest campaigner for men's rights.

Well if that’s what you’d like to believe, then ok. The point of dog whistling is it’s not heard by everyone. I’m Jewish so I can identify the subtext but I wouldn’t expect everyone to be able to do that.

If you can identify the subtext you should be able to articulate it.

Yes I can. I just don’t feel I owe anyone an explanation as to why it might be antisemitic to equate Jews with genocide or extreme fondness for money. Furthermore I think it’s insensitive that you continue to insist on it. May I suggest that you investigate more thoroughly yourself rather than expect Jewish people to do the work for you?

A special rapporteur's report

Again, where has this been ruled a genocide?

Are you accusing me of something?

Othering Palestinians and insisting a UN report is 'deeply bias' as it calls out the genocide is truly disgusting.
'Settler colonialist' is factually accurate.
Your knowledge of the region is pi** poor.

No one has said you have to explain. But if you make an accusation, people will ask you to give your reasoning.

No, it isnt. Jewish people are indigenous to 'The Holy Land'. Come on. They cannot therefore be 'settler colonialists'. You could also do with reading a bit more about the Jews from across the ME who settled in Israel.

I made an observation. I refer you to my previous post since there’s nothing more to be added.

Would be better to focus on the abuse Jess Phillips received at the count, rather than going off topic. Which is obviously what certain posters want because the behaviour of the supporters of Jody McIntyre can't be justified.

Arconialiving · 06/07/2024 13:41

Good point @tttigress

Agreed. Sorry its hard when people are spreading egregious lies. Which is relevant because its the backdrop against whoch otherwise reasonable people (giving benefit of doubt) think its not only ok but in fact a moral duty to abuse Jess Phillips.

Citrusandginger · 06/07/2024 13:57

Also keen to remain on topic and discuss the vile treatment towards a female MP.

I wonder how the single issue Gaza candidates will serve their constituents. Their job is now to represent all their constituents, yet we already know what they think of those that don't agree with them. Its concerning for democracy here & wont make a blind bit of difference there.

And I can't help wondering how much help the hecklers would give woman escaping domestic violence or in need of an abortion.

The CITME board is that way 👉

Anyway, back to Jess Philips which is what the thread is about, after all. I think she's incredibly brave. I don't agree with her on everything but she comes across as a really strong woman who works like mad for her constituents and I'm glad she was re-elected.

I don't know if any of you listen to the Electoral Dysfunction podcast but I listened to the post-election one and she said she was fully expecting to lose her seat. I know the thread has moved on but I read on one of the earlier pages someone suggesting she sounded shell shocked because of nearly not being elected but it sounds like she was braced for it.

Its difficult to respond to this without bringing up the status of women in Hamas-controlled Gaza and I'm not aware of any Pro-Gaza candidates calling them out or being particularly supportive of issues like services for women & girls here (isn't it polite to tag someone if you quote them?).

Trying to shut down voices that stand up for those experiencing genocide in Palestine.
How democratic.

You outright lied and claimed Jess Philips voted against a ceasefire. So you’ll forgive me and others here if we don’t take anything else you say very seriously.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 06/07/2024 14:51

Anyone know what the authorities are doingvabout this? Those men were publicly on TV intimidating her. Have they been arrested? Banned from standing again? If they are appeased or ignored they will be emboldened. I hope the people who voted for him are embarrassed and upset by his behaviour.

Trying to shut down voices that stand up against genocidal Israel is deeply undemocratic.
Your pick n mix upholding of democracy is laughable.

I honestly am very confused though about who stands for what? I thought many labour MP’s had come out in support of Palestine? Some even said they would have it recognised as a state. Why were they heckling her? Am I the only one who has no idea what labour’s views are on women and the Middle East? Genuinely I have heard different things from different MPs. I can’t work out why she was heckled other than being a women and she beat them.

The culture of the hecklers explain it. If you watch the footage. These are people who, if they could, would not allow any woman to have a voice, or a job, or a vote. They despise us with a passion. We cannot allow them to have any sort of position in today's society. Horrible human beings.
