What a brave lady.

Whilst I am not an ardent Labour supporter, I completely support you and how you have stood up to the bullying, racism, violence and hatred sent your way.

Sad that your family could not be there to see your victory but under the circumstances you made the right choice.

That this country is allowing this type of intimidation and behaviour - we should be ashamed of ourselves.

There is nothing antisemitic in that post. Absolutely nothing.

And you’re completely entitled to believe that.

Thanks, I'm very well aware of Finkelstein's work. You do need to read some history though. What is happening in Gaza is a catastrophic humanitarian and political situation. It bears no resemblance to the Holocaust & you do the situation a disservice by throwing dead cats on the table rather than looking at the issues particular to this conflict. If you cared you might tone down your rhetoric rather than being deliberately inflammatory towards a community where descendants of the actual Holocaust were tortured & murdered on 7 October & some are still held hostage.

PaleSunlightOfHope · 06/07/2024 11:12

Does anyone seriously think Jody McIntyre would be a good MP and work conscientiously for his constituents?

Arconialiving · 06/07/2024 11:14

Very well said @SharonEllis

Maty34 · 06/07/2024 11:17

Dreadful those sort of extremists even allowed to stand for parliament

berthaofcalcutta · 06/07/2024 11:17

So many of these single-issue independents seem to fit the same mould - third rate provincial solicitor but somehow with the ££££ for an expensive car, constantly surrounded by entourage of unemployed men community leaders, claim to be left wing but have views on women and gay people that would make your average tory blush.

Anyone should be allowed to stand assuming they are within the law. That's democracy. I firmly believe the best way to defeat extemism is through democracy - otherwise, what's the point?

Truthseeker456 · 06/07/2024 11:21

I'm more concerned about the thousands of children being blown up but that is just me .....

If you cared about humanity you would take the works of Norman Finkelstein seriously and take onboard his words. Being the descendant of a holocaust doesn't give a person the right to inflict genocide on others as he rightly points out. In fact empathy should be there as it is with Norman Finkelstein. He understands how horrific it is to be inflicting a holocaust and genocide on the Palestinian people and speaks up against it.
Your knowledge of the region and history of the region is rubbish as if you understood you would realise there are thousands more Palestinian detainees kidnapped by Israel including CHILDREN as that is how barbaric the Israeli army is.
Don't you DARE tell me to tone it down whilst the genocide continues in real time. People need to speak up against this genocide of the Palestinian people. Every 10 minutes a Palestinian child is murdered by Israel so more, not less people need to speak up against the terrorist Israeli army.

I saw a clip and wasn't sure if it was AI manipulation or not

He is entitled to stand but who the hell was voting for him?

Nah, not just you.

Not sure of the relevance though

Would you have voted for McIntyre?

wtfissummer · 06/07/2024 11:26

@Kolbie You've mentioned the word "genocide" several times. Did I miss the ruling?

I don't think the righteous obsessed are interested in anything so rational as facts, historical evidence, legal judgement, analysis etc etc.

DinnaeFashYersel · 06/07/2024 11:43

When my DH was an MP (some years ago) we had to

  • carry attack alarms
  • the children's schools had threat escalation plans
  • cctv installed
  • police would drive by our house regularly
  • twice me and the children were advised by special branch to leave the house and stay elsewhere

As for social media - no words to describe how awful that was.

People forget politicians are people too with families.

You may disagree with their politics but when you resort to personal abuse and threats or action you've forgotten how to behave and you are an affront to democracy.

There is thread after thread on here saying hideous things about MPs. From laughing about those who lose their seats heading to the job centre through wishing for them to be strung up and worse.

It's a very easy to see how people get whipped up and take the next step.

Kolbie · 06/07/2024 11:43

Yes GENOCIDE, read report below. To 'other' Palestinains by suggesting the term should not be applied to them makes your support of the terrorist genocidal Israeli army even more disgusting, if that were even possible.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think most of us overstep the mark sometimes when criticising opponents but we should respect people who put themselves forward for public office. Its a tough job and we should remember they are humans.

A special rapporteur's report

Again, where has this been ruled a genocide?

Are you accusing me of something?

And when you read the phrase 'settler colonial' you know exactly that the report is coming from a place of deep bias and lack of historical knowledge, so you know not to trust its findings even if you wrre inclined to take its word in the absence of a legal ruling
