So this is the first time Ive seen anything written about Kier Starmer and I like the man described.

Am I being unreasonable?

Nice man probably, lots of integrity maybe however he comes across as a wet doormat. He will get walked all over as he doesn't look like he'd say boo to a goose. Angela will no doubt do that for him though, she ll be running the show.

I'm not bothered about anyone having 'charisma' but they must be full of confidence and be convincing. He is neither of those things. He whines rather than bellows and looks so awkward. We will have a wet lettuce for PM. Great.

CurlewKate · 02/07/2024 13:54

@fromdownwest "Something off with him, no rhyme nor reason to my view, just a gut instinct."

Have you considered thinking? I've heard it's an excellent way of making decisions.

I think he's anything but weak. Just because he doesn't bellow that doesn't mean he's not quietly capable of exerting authority. I don't think anyone will be walking over him. He'll be in charge.

Why?

“He’s meticulous, he’s methodical, he likes to get across the details“

hilarious.

that article is a load of crap, you poor fools.
he’s going to be the worst we’ve had since Blair and Brown fucked the country up.

and to those being dismissive about the privacy, dignity and safety of women and girls - shame on you.

stop tossing in the “GC” label to shut down debate. That anyone - anyone - can consider voting for someone to be PM when that person thinks that some women have penises is incredulous.

ilovesooty · 02/07/2024 13:59

The people who are shutting down debate are the ones trying to move wider discussion into a single issue.

And denigrating those who respect what they see in Starmer and his wider qualities, and calling them fools is anything but respectful.

Yep the details part is pushing it. He seems unaware with some policies

Again to @ilovesooty if someone posts on a topic others are allowed to respond or ask a question based on that post. It’s how mn works, if you only want a site which sticks to your pre approved notion of what to discuss there probably are some

Tories believe men can be women.

Reform will probably get rid off the GRA after they take us out of the ECHR. If this is the only issue you care about, vote for them. Probably are already.

How did Blair and Brown fuck the country up? Pray tell.

It's also a fair critique that, in a country where there are far many bigger issues impacting the safety and quality of life for the vast majority of women and girls, it is ridiculous that this issue takes prime centre stage in every thread on MN driven by the same people.

As said, if you really cared you'd focus on the issues that would make the rights of millions of women and girls, their safety and their quality of life better rather than this one.

GC is the correct term. not used as a "shut down". Stop accusing anyone who counters your points of "shutting you down".

Leaders need to look confident to instil confidence. He looks terrified. He'll have ministers like Lammy who think men can grow cervixes pulling his strings Confused.

If folk thought cakegate and Pinchergate were anything to fret over they are in for a horrid shock. Frank Spencer running the country.

ilovesooty · 02/07/2024 14:05

Labour certainly have an agenda but whether it will be good for the average worker only time will tell. Starmer has rewarded the loyal SPADs by parachuting them into seats they can easily win. His will be a government full of MPs who don't have any real world experience, which I find profoundly depressing. They will be a certain type, with a certain arrogance and absolutely fuck all knowledge about anything outside their narrow career and friendship cliques. He could easily end up being the UK's Macron and we all know who that will usher in in 2029. If there's a chance a third candidate can win in your constituency, a Green, a Lib Dem, a really good Independent then vote for them.

A Labour win? Yes. A Labour super majority? No thanks. We need an actual opposition. Labour have pretty much got rid of anyone on the left so there will be no dissent coming from within the ranks. Remember it was the left who voted against the Iraq war, for all the good it did. The right wing warmongers were with Blair all the way. If Labour get 450+ seats, its an effective dictatorship.

Glad to hear that you're having a good day.

Our perceptions of manners differs. We know that. I'll continue to say what I'm saying. If you have a problem with that you can take it up with MNHQ.

your penultimate para about if I really cared about the rights of women and girls etc well if you cannot define what a women or girl is then there’s your problem, if you cannot accurately define them, you cannot help them with any of the issues they face or make their lives better. It’s really not difficult to grasp this basic point.

judging by your responses on this thread you’re not the sort of poster I’m usually minded to engage with either.

Same to you.

If you have a problem with women talking about something that affects them on a majority female site take it up with mnhq

Plus I’m sure there’s other sites that don’t cover it at all and prioritise men

FatOaf · 02/07/2024 14:11

Blair and Brown are/were neither executives of multinational banks nor lunatics like Liz Truss. So I don't get what you're talking about when you refer to their "fuck[ing] the country up".

On the other hand, Cameron, Johnson, Truss and Sunak have systematically destroyed everything they could get their hands on, while May could achieve nothing because of being locked in a war with her backbenchers over unsuccessful attempts at negotiating a deal to leave the EU without wrecking the economy.

FatOaf · 02/07/2024 14:13

If you even have to ask how they fucked the country up I cannot help you.

Here's a hint: they didn't. You're mistaking them for Cameron, Johnson & Truss.

As is using one's inherent gut instinct. It has served me well multiple times in life, acting logically would have got me into a few tricky situations.

Thank you for the life lesson though, much appreciated.

That’s your opinion. I disagree and do not share your view. I despise what Boris Johnson did whilst PM too fwiw.

'Blair and Brown are/were neither executives of multinational banks nor lunatics like Liz Truss. So I don't get what you're talking about when you refer to their "fuck[ing] the country up".

Well. We have the 2004 GP contract to start with. Blair let them opt out of out of hours care! so we now have the circus that is 111 who seem to direct everyone to A&E rather than to a locum gp sat on his arse earning a fortune. Then didn't Blair take us into some war under false pretences 🤔, then there was the PFI disaster and etc etc etc..
