So this is the first time Ive seen anything written about Kier Starmer and I like the man described.

Am I being unreasonable?

@JacquesHarlow

He says 'safe spaces' not single sex spaces.
And if he includes men in the category of women, which he does, then it's all moot anyway.

JacquesHarlow · 02/07/2024 06:59

KoiKoiKoi · 02/07/2024 06:56

You think? I think we'll be at war with Russia within a few months if they get in.

We'll also have perverts in our toilets and changing rooms and probably be arrested for even thinking about speaking out about it. That's the lefts usual stance, isn't it, fascism?

This is why I can't bring myself to watch GB News.

bergamotorange · 02/07/2024 06:59

CroftonWillow · 02/07/2024 06:50

He'll start well but it won't be long before he becomes a puppet of the left of the party.

Can you name these people you think he'll be a puppet of??

This is a fictional fear - who are you imagining?

bergamotorange · 02/07/2024 07:02

BusyCM · 02/07/2024 06:50

My useful comment is that if you like and respect someone enough to vote for them, and share articles that show them in a positive light to enough others to like and vote for them, then the very least you can do is spell their 4-letter name correctly.

I don't agree your comment was useful. It also wasn't interesting!

Yourloveissuchaswamp · 02/07/2024 07:02

@JacquesHarlow you are so naive. He said he would protect ‘women’s’ spaces - he also says trans women are women. So it’s a nice little bit of manipulating speech to keep women like you happy. Single sex space protection is what is needed.

JacquesHarlow · 02/07/2024 06:55

Name five of these strong voices, and their position in the Labour organisation. I'd love to hear it.

Well obviously Angela Rayner but more influential are the organisations like Momentum, the Socialist campaign group and the trade unions who back and shape the party.

Momentum??!
You have not watched events since 2019.

The TUs have no more power over Starmer than they did Blair, and the unions were pretty grumpy about Blair!

And how would Rayner have more influence next week than this? Deputies are deputies.

HRTQueen · 02/07/2024 07:15

Intelligent, focused, hard working, empathetic, not ideology led and serious

Thats exactly what I want in a PM

The left of the party are thankfully back on the back benches they will often be a thorn in any labour PM’s side and he has already shown how he shall manage them

Loonancy · 02/07/2024 07:18

BusyCM · 02/07/2024 05:37

Well hopefully people will spell his name right fir a start.

Spell much?

Staplerandstappler · 02/07/2024 07:18

Sounds like the adults will be back in charge very shortly.

Sensible, committed, intelligent, a serious person, after the circus we’ve had since 2019.

Superhansrantowindsor · 02/07/2024 07:19

Shite.

Whatafustercluck · 02/07/2024 07:19

A friend of mine represents rape victims and met him when he was DPP. She had no expectations of her meeting with him and doesn't take fools gladly. She said he sat and really listened and then listed out the things he would do as a result of what she'd spoken about. He left the room and did exactly what he'd said he'd do. In the all the interviews I've seen with him, I think he displays the values and qualities described in the article. It's time for a more grown up approach to politics.

I know- bloody annoying.

A grown up approach to politics
Finally.

KatyaKabanova · 02/07/2024 07:23

@CroftonWillow the TUs have not had much control in the party for some time. Momentum are negligible.

KatyaKabanova · 02/07/2024 07:24

JacquesHarlow · 02/07/2024 06:59

This is why I can't bring myself to watch GB News.

Although it is unintentionally funny. They're so scared of Starmer.

LlynTegid · 02/07/2024 07:24

Unlike many recent Prime Ministers Keir Starmer has experience of running a large scale organisation, of managing people. I will have policy differences with a Labour government, a lot less than the current one, but many things about government are not party political. I want to see competence and feel this may happen.

notgettinganyyounger · 02/07/2024 07:28

Women with penises.

That tells me all I need to know about what sort of prime minister he will be. Not someone I wish to be running the country whilst my grandchildren are growing up believing all this rubbish.

Hemiola · 02/07/2024 07:28

If it was a personality contest he would absolutely have my vote but I'm voting for the values I hold and what I want to society to look like. Sadly I can't align myself with labour on that front.

If another Conservative government is your preference, fine. He's the only alternative though.

He'll start well but it won't be long before he becomes a puppet of the left of the party.

I really don't get that sense at all. He's removed a lot of them and seems to be a strong but fair leader who knows what needs to be done to win and get things done.

He appears to be a sensible, competent and highly intelligent man.

These are my feelings, too.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 02/07/2024 07:31

@Whatafustercluck that is really encouraging.

CelesteCunningham · 02/07/2024 07:37

Haven't read the article or the thread, but I suspect: competent.

It's been a while, I'm quite looking forward to competence.

I didn't spell his name incorrectly. The OP asked a question and e and i was swapped around in his name by them.

Nit picking OP error rather than contributing is the pants of mn.
