So this is the first time Ive seen anything written about Kier Starmer and I like the man described.

Am I being unreasonable?

He has all the charisma of a cold cottage pie!
But maybe we’ve had enough of charisma?

Trouble with charisma, is that it's often wrapped up in an ego the size of a mountain. I'm done with egotistic bully's who put themselves first above all else. They just love being in power for the sake of it. Not Keir.

Nancy1906 · 02/07/2024 12:03

A comedian recently said he looks like the manager of an up north Asda.

😁

We should NOT have to compromise women's rights! This is one area that does deal in absolutes. Men absolutely cannot be women and humans absolutely cannot change sex.

No, there are no absolutes and your sticking to this utterly dogmatic idea turns people off your arguments.

BTW did you the see the surveys posted on another thread? GC issues came very, very low on what people are thinking about this election.

No one cares, you've failed to influence anyone.

I agree. I know many bright, educated young women who are very GC, but the issues most important to them for the election are health, education, cost of living. Palestine in some demographics.

For the less well educated/informed women I know, gender issues are barely on their radar at all.

AhNowTed · 02/07/2024 12:10

Here's what former Chief Prosecutor, Nazir Afzal OBE has to say:

Take it from someone who worked with Starmer, he never “clocks off”

He was always available to discuss casework 24/7 but he was also clear about his staff having a work life balance to increase productivity

As DPP he saw the biggest increase in convictions on a range of crimes

Knowing that sex is binary and immutable is not disrespectful to anybody. In fact it's disrespectful to pretend otherwise.

You and the other GCs have lost this so far.

You really have.

No one fully backs your opinion and your obsessiveness of shoehorning it in everywhere makes people less likely to listen to you.

Oh and I could go back to the fact that you don't really care about women and girls, but then that's getting boring.

I like him. I'm sick of the bullshitting.

I read that piece this morning on Twitter and felt that he seems genuine.
I cannot abide Sunaks mock pathetic gestures a moment longer

This. It's been years and fucking years of hot air and sound bites and greedy, self-advancement. I'm ready for some substance and decency and I think Starmer has those things in spades.

I agree. I think he has integrity and fundamental decency and I admire him for taking on a task which is going to be anything but easy. I believe he's hard working, intelligent and tenacious. I think he'll continue to rid the party of subversive influences and won't tolerate anyone who doesn't behave with honesty.

It would be good if his wider potential as PM could be discussed without being derailed by the GC stuff.

MeinKraft · 02/07/2024 12:53

Starmer made it clear during the ITV debate that men can't become women and won't be admitted to single sex spaces even with a GRC. What else do you want the bloke to do? I'm GC myself and have been for years and even I think once someone has gone through gender realignment surgery they should be allowed to live fully as the opposite sex. This constant banging on and on about 'he doesn't even know what a woman is' is really irritating. It takes a totally reductionist view of how women are impacted by other party policies and we have been negatively impacted by Tory policies, particularly austerity, time and time again. AND Sunak is only using the gender debate as a dogwhistle to appeal to the hard right.

MeinKraft · 02/07/2024 12:56

And I want a PM who respects everybody in the country, women, immigrants, trans people...everyone! I do not want our country to be governed by a person who doesn't at least try to be respectful and fair to everyone. I think Starmer will be that PM.

cupcaske123 · 02/07/2024 12:59

KoiKoiKoi · 02/07/2024 06:56

You think? I think we'll be at war with Russia within a few months if they get in.

We'll also have perverts in our toilets and changing rooms and probably be arrested for even thinking about speaking out about it. That's the lefts usual stance, isn't it, fascism?

Well you're obviously the cool voice of reason.

ehnowthen · 02/07/2024 13:05

There's going to be some disappointed people on here in a few years.

He's going to be a terrible PM. Pathological liar who can't make his mind up on anything.

Yes and they'll all be Tories.

😆

@DisappearingGirl..

I disagree. It's not a women with penis "thing".
. It's a fundamental attack on freedoms and liberties not won over time but that we still trying to win.

The world came under this wave and people were confused and stonewall and the like took hold.. The difference between labour and tory is that tory now recognises this and Rishi has been very clear about it.
Starmer has not and we know stonewall is a party supporter.

Myself and myself children and my girls have a right to have intimate care of given by biological women if we choose
If we are already vulnerable on an NHS ward (from illness and at risk form poor protection NHS gives against abuse and attack) we have the right to be along side biological women.

Very soon speaking out about this will be called a hate crime... Look at the one nurse in Scotland and the group of nurses... This will get far worse and our powers to raise this in a democracy will be removed.

How?

Without legislative change. What are you expecting to happen wrt men with GRCs?

JaneV1984Madness · 02/07/2024 13:13

Mein kraft this is the most fundamental of all, keir said he supports women against violence and so on but vulnerable women who have suffered from male violence could be in a refuge with men!

Stonewall got into councils and told women's charities unless men are included they will potentially loose funding

AllPrincessAnneshorses · 02/07/2024 13:13

JacquesHarlow · 02/07/2024 05:57

This is a really interesting article OP.

I wonder how much the Keir naysayers can read this objectively.

A lot of these naysayers seem to be looking for anything they can criticise , to then justify their instinct to vote for a very rotten, broken Tory party. (or whisper it, even Reform).

That’s fine, everyone can vote how they like. What I find fascinating though is the amount of attempts people make to personally criticise a man who is about as close to unimpeachable in politics as I’ve seen in my lifetime.

That doesn’t make him the Messiah, and he really struggles at times with charisma and messaging.

However at a time when one prime minister of recent times, with oodles of charisma and messaging, sold people the dream of money from the NHS on the side of a bus, then lied to just about everyone around him… or the absolutely bizarre egotist who switched to every political position possible as an MP, jumps to the Brexit mob, becomes PM, trashes the economy, but now does speaking tours for the far Right..

I think at this time, it would be welcome to have someone who has stood for integrity and values all his life.

the problem is, a lot of people on here and in society see Toryism as an identity, and every other political position as “supporting the feckless”.

Not to mention the bitter Corbynistas who look for every excuse [ and none] to paint him as a Red Tory.

JaneV1984Madness · 02/07/2024 13:15

How can he be "fair" if he doesn't understand what he's being fair about?.. He wouldn't meet his own Labour mp rose dufflield... Treating everyone with respect!

No one reads your posts anymore.

He said almost exactly what you wanted to hear, but because it wasn't exact it's still derided.

This is a minor issue in this election. A minor issue overall.

If you really wanted to protect women and girls you'd be posting about issues that effect many more of them on a daily basis.

But no, it's this.

Yes and that happened under a Conservative government. In fact almost all of "this" happened under a Conservative government. It's beyond me hoew anyone believes the Tories are in any way even slightly good for women.
