She’s absolutely awful!

Her voice is harsh and rough, she’s out of tune and out of rhythm. Dreadful.

This. Shania will very likely have been paid several hundred thousand pounds for this .. Saying 'see if you can do better' to someone slating her is a ludicrous thing to say @magnoliablooms . 🙄

.

Edited

She's paid to be Shania Twain. The bookers would have been aware of her limitations and that she isn't going to sound like she did 20 years ago.

I always think the legend spotters should always be given a bit of leeway with how good they sound, it's more about the singalong(drowning out the now dodgy vocals of our old favourites) and the feel good vibes. I expect total top tier standard of vocals from the headliners (which is why macca & Elton should have been doing the legend spot also!) IMHO 😁 although this thread has made me laugh today

Exactly they are there as a celebration of their legendaryness. The fact the crowd carries them sometimes is all part of it. It's really not the spirit of the festival to be so negative.

Pleiades2020 · 30/06/2024 23:02

The sound is often not very good from Glasters when heard on the tv, but in person it's excellent. Or at least mind-blowingly loud :)

nunsflipflop · 30/06/2024 23:12

Just watching Tom Jones from his slot earlier, he still has it, he should have had the legend slot

OonaStubbs · 30/06/2024 23:33

IIRC all Shania's hits in the UK were remixes of her country songs in the US.

Tom Jones was on? I had no idea! Is that on iPlayer?

I don’t know in all honesty, I had set to save Shania, and he was on before her, one of the few that still has it

She's 58 and looks like a stunning 45 year old. Whatever work she's had done is very subtle. And her hair is incredible!

This post is what’s incredible! Subtle?!?!? Obviously she’s a pop star and as such has the pressure to look a certain way, but the level of work was too much. You should look better , not utterly different. She does not look 45 and why the hell should she?

Above all she did not look like she was having fun. It was another gig on the circuit. And coming on with drag artists? Why? The “legend” does not have to be camp and silly.

I have probably seen a thousand artists and this was massively below par.

fliptopbin · 01/07/2024 12:01

To be fair, if her earpiece wasn't working, she wouldn't be able to hear herself at all, so she would have no idea if she was in tune or not.

Whatafustercluck · 01/07/2024 12:23

I'm not watching it. We used to go but haven't been able to get tickets in recent times. I thought Shania Twain was a dubious choice for a headline slot tbh. But there have been a fair few questionable choices in terms of headliners since Emily Eavis took the reins. Perhaps I'm just getting old. Coldplay are a good Glastonbury band, but they've played loads of times before. I think if they're going to charge the amounts they now do for tickets, the headliners need to be knock out.

It was worse than not being in tune, her voice was really cracking and breaking.

I wonder whether, if you can't perform vocally for health reasons but can still be on stage, it might be worth miming, being honest about it and still giving the audience the benefit of your presence and visual spectacle.

She also would not be able to hear how loud she was singing, and would be straining her voice to hear herself, so her voice could have been cracking due to that.

I don't think so...it didn't sound like straining, her voice was just extremely weak and broken.

Hopefully it was temporary and she'll be back on form soon.

August1980 · 01/07/2024 17:48

I just posted on another thread “why so much nastiness in world? Is it because everyone WANTS to be heard? must have an opinion on everything about everything? if you don’t like it, turn it off??

I have days when I am not my best at work…she is working too! Cut her some slack

xxFairyNuffxx · 01/07/2024 18:04

LlynTegid · 30/06/2024 17:08

Miming is a form of deception. There should be a law that you have to be told of miming before you buy any gig or festival ticket, if not you get a 100% refund. And tv companies should be obliged to tell you, just as they do about 'strong language'.

There would be almost none if that was the case.

Lip syncing should be reflected in ticket prices imo.

A family member appeared on a tv talent show alongside a very famous artist, who mimed during a performance, and commented to another contestant that they thought it was disgraceful given it was a talent show and all, and was overheard. Family member received a bollocking behind the scenes for disrespecting the mimer.

Staplerandstappler · 30/06/2024 16:19

She’s no Dolly Parton, that’s for sure. Dolly rocked this slot.

I thought Dolly was ok given her age. But much lower and weaker than before.

I thought so too. She also didn't seem quite there. Good luck to her, she was great supporting her siblings when she was the only breadwinner.

@August1980 - can we have enough of the “you must not have an opinion” nonsense. Do you object to film and television critics? Do you ever criticise the Government? Must we passively applaud everything? And as for “a bad day at work”! I hope you will be as forgiving of an off-day surgeon or pilot…

The Shania Twain performance was terrible. There may of course be any number of excuses but the fact remains it was astonishingly bad.

Lorrainedrops · 01/07/2024 18:30

soupfiend · 30/06/2024 16:27

Well I would hope that most people would hope that they present well and put on a good enough performance, it being her job and all

Why is there such aggression with things like this, 'she wont give a fuck what you think'. Well she isnt there for any other reason than to put on a performance, so its it does rather matter what the audience think doesnt it?

I thought I remembered all this from Diana Ross too, couldnt sing for toffee in the end.

You can have opinion… keep it to yourself! Not worth wasting energy on something that doesn’t change your life or hers! And yes I am a surgeon.

danceon · 01/07/2024 18:43

Well, I actually went and watched Shania Twain, having read the negative comments and, I have to say that I didn’t think her voice was that bad!
I think the fault was with the sound system ( not technical so I wouldn’t want to say what), but my husband who used to be in a band himself, said that the balance was out. I thought her voice was drowned out a lot of the time by the backing and that she seemed to be having trouble with her ear piece so maybe not hearing herself clearly?
whatever, I certainly didn’t think she was as bad as some of the comments above are making out!

I agree. I didn't know it was her at first! Shania seemed to be mumbling and not singing her well known tracks clearly, she seemed a bit out of it and was relying on her backing tracks. Maybe it was too much stress on her vocal chords after being unwell from Lymes disease. Either way - she didn't impress me much 😜

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 30/06/2024 16:35

I remember axl rose was crucified was it last year? But then played another concert and sounded awesome

He was dire, but as a die hard fan of the original, it was difficult to listen to him, the power has gone. Dunno what he’s done to his face, barely recognised him. I thought the same of CL’s voice, but god love her, she’s 72!

Shania Twain’s voice is explained with the Lyme disease issue, but by god, she looks fabulous! Her backing group were obviously having a fabulous time.
