She’s absolutely awful!

Her voice is harsh and rough, she’s out of tune and out of rhythm. Dreadful.

Oh dear

BeverForget · 30/06/2024 17:46

FailBetter · 30/06/2024 17:06

Stevie Nicks - she could do the slot?

Really? Can you get road crew to do that these days..?

PossumintheHouse · 30/06/2024 17:46

Yeah... She's had a couple of beverages in the sun today.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 30/06/2024 17:53

Really sorry to be reading this about Shania Twain. Seen her in Glasgow a number of years ago. She was absolutely fantastic - as were Dolly Parton, Kylie Minogue, Tina Turner, Sharleen Spiteri (Texas).
Madonna - not so much.

Chocoloca · 30/06/2024 17:55

Staplerandstappler · 30/06/2024 16:19

She’s no Dolly Parton, that’s for sure. Dolly rocked this slot.

She had an illness damaging her vocal cords.

Appalonia · 30/06/2024 17:37

Genuinely curious, so they not do sound checks at Glastonbury? A lot of pp seem to have had sound issues!

My DH said earlier on that they don't.

Livinginaclock · 30/06/2024 17:57

ChrissyHynde · 30/06/2024 16:19

It's awful , was going to go to lytham but won't bother now

I'm going and although she didn't sound great, the crowd and atmosphere with still be amazing
.

Ihaveahamster · 30/06/2024 16:30

Well somethings not right with her today. She’s murmuring some words as though she’s forgotten them. She honestly sounds drunk to me.

Her vocal cords are permanently damaged due to health conditions.

She is not drunk.

Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers · 30/06/2024 18:01

Is she can no longer sing due to damage to ger vocal cords she should hang up her cowboy hat and stop charging people an absolute fortune to go see her. Loads walked out when I was there she was that bad.

Shefliesonherownwings · 30/06/2024 18:04

I must have been watching a totally different set. I thought she looked and sounded amazing considering her health issues and age. The crowd certainly seemed to be loving it, I think she was awesome. Some of the comments on here and incredibly harsh.

RaraRachael · 30/06/2024 18:07

@Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers 100% agree with you.

As for the people saying stuff like "Could you do any better" etc - we're not professional singers getting paid thousands for performing.

Shittification · Today 17:06

She's 58 years old.

By MN standards that's teetering on the edge of dementia, drawers full of lavender bags and carers twice a day.

On the contrary, I have seen multiple threads on MN where people encourage women to leave their dull or unhappy marriage at that sort of age, because 'you're still so YOUNG OP!' Wink

They say 'you have loads of life left, probably 40 years, and at LEAST ten years of working life. You can get a degree, forge a new career, get a whole new bunch of friends, and a wonderful new life. Re-invent yourself! My friend Sue did it. She left her DH after 37 years (at 56,) and got an amazing new man 30 years younger. She looks 20 years younger, and has a new career with a £100K a year salary.'

And that's on top of the multiple threads encouraging women to have babies at 48-50, because it's still SO YOUNG! Wink

I rarely see any 'you're past it at 58 comments' tbh!

Glad I'm not there this year. Lana Del Rey and Elton John put me off for life last year. I honestly wouldn't pay to go again. Shania sounds just as bad right now. Just caterwauler's (though I am glad I saw Elton live and to be fair his issue is age. Lana Del Rey ruined her voice with ciggies).

Think you're telling porkies as Elton was sensational last year.

frenchnoodle · 30/06/2024 18:20

Meat Loaf was the same, his voice was terrible near the end of his career.

Monitor problems don't help though, that adds to the issues as finding the right key becomes a nightmare.

I can only think of two singers able to perform when monitors have broken, Stevie wonder and Freddie Mercury and a very much doubt Freddie Mercury could do it in the 85 to 86 period when his voice was cracking all over the place. I think unless you have perfect pitch, or almost perfect relative pitch it messes your ability to sing in key up.

daisychain01 · 30/06/2024 18:21

I've just watched her on YouTube and she sounds like most people at a massive rock festival, familiar if you know the music but not 100% on key. Sound systems at these big events never do justice to the singer's real voice

A lot of pretty nasty comments on here about a fantastic Grammy Award winning singer, I've seen her live in an open air concert in Hyde Park and she was fab. Plus I've got her double album Up and every song is classy, anthems for women with great lyrics.

Ihaveahamster · 30/06/2024 16:22

She’s reminiscent of a drunk old bird singing karaoke in my local. Actually feel sorry for her.

Said the poster with awards, sellout tours, acclaim and a fan base? When you’re just a gripey auld bird on mn

@Ihaveahamster

“drunk old bird”

misogynistic much??

JustSaltPlease · 30/06/2024 18:49

She looks absolutely incredible

brewmeanotherone · 30/06/2024 18:50

I can understand her voice changing and that she would look older but she is unrecognisable, like a totally different person she has had so much surgery, its very disconcerting to see.

MintTwirl · 30/06/2024 18:56

We turned off as it was so poor. Sad if she has been ill and it has impacted her voice but like any other job, if you can no longer do it adequately then it’s time to stop.

The Sugababes would have been good for this slot. Lots of sing along songs and I enjoyed their set.

Appalonia · 30/06/2024 19:07

If you want to hear someone who can really sing, watch Brittany Howard who's on now, incredible, powerful, soulful voice!

Lifeomars · 30/06/2024 19:07

RaraRachael · 30/06/2024 17:01

@Lifeomars I had a totally different opinion of Dexy's performance .
Funny how people hear things differently isn't it?

I agree with you even though I enjoyed it, maybe positive memories prime our ears. I am currently watching Seventeen on catch up just to see what all the fuss is about and for me it is derivative shit, like a sort of Take That from decades ago who have multiplied like an amobea. I am not their demographic but they are shit, like bad musical theatre.

GinandGingerBeer · 30/06/2024 19:10

She was dire. I was confused by the choice to have her as the legend slot. Now Lionel Richie 🕺.. he was something. One of the best &most memorable performances I've ever seen at Glastonbury

Lifeomars · 30/06/2024 19:11

tothelefttotheleft · 30/06/2024 16:53

Why? It's true.

It's like watching Katie Price doing Shania Twain.

😂nearly had wine running out of my nose at that!

3kidsaremorethanenough · 30/06/2024 19:12

I always think the legend spotters should always be given a bit of leeway with how good they sound, it's more about the singalong(drowning out the now dodgy vocals of our old favourites) and the feel good vibes. I expect total top tier standard of vocals from the headliners (which is why macca & Elton should have been doing the legend spot also!) IMHO 😁 although this thread has made me laugh today
